  • Does anyone know if this model works well with sublimation inks?

  • ADF, Duplex printing
    Not sure about duplex scanning
    Great price
    Need to check consumable pricing

    • +1

Consumable price is usually cheap as chips on the ink tank printers.

    same price Amazon

  • How is it compare with EcoTank?

Don’t do it! F*** HP and their anti-competitive printer practices.

They block 3rd party ink in every way possible

Get an Epson Ecotank instead, I’ve just bought a new one after my old 3800 started playing up after 7 years and 15,000 pages

Also, F Gerry Harvey, go to Officeworks or JB.

This model uses ink tanks (whick you fill from a bottle) hence compatible ink should be ok?

Number of sellers out there who do sell compatible ink for this model.

      • +8

HP screwed over thousands of people by updating their inkjets to STOP supporting 3rd party cartridges that people were already using.

Do not support this company, in case they find a way to F you over with this printer too.

        Epson EcoTank or Brother laser!

Yep, HP is on my list of companies I will never do business with again, no matter how good a bargain they seem to be offering, because of their printers. The engineering of their printers was great. The tricks to screw you over on ink were beyond annoying.

The deal says "this printer is Instant Ink compatible". What OzBargainers want to know is the reverse. Is it able to be used without signing up to that ink subscription service, getting screwed by it, and getting your printer locked to require it.

@GordonD: Yep, don't reward terrible anti-consumer business practices. It doesn't end unless the masses stop supporting it

As much as I hate HP, the Smart Tank series is explicitly designed to take generic ink, not cartridges, and is a rare W. They're literally just plastic bottles with a fancy nozzle, so you can refill them yourself. Unless they somehow have chemical sensors, there is no way to block this. Failing that, even official HP ink retails for ~$25 for 6000 pages, which is very cheap.

By comparison ink tank designs from other manufacturers are just worse. Brother's Inkvestment series is a lie and actually proprietary ink cartridges. Canon Megatanks literally dump waste ink in some random compartment and are designed to fail. Epson's Ecotanks have way slower print speeds, and also have a proprietary waste ink pad with a DRM chip that needs to be replaced. HP Smart Tanks collect waste ink in their service stations, which can be manually cleaned.

      • I did wonder if they’d be able to enforce the ink. Would be very hard, but figured it was cheap enough anyway.

      • I don’t seem to find any details about cleaning the service station in the user manual of HP Smart Tank 7305.

It doesn’t appear HP sells maintenance service stations.

      • Are you sure the service tank is accessible for manual cleaning.
        I found this online
“The service tank on the HP Smart Tank 7305 isn’t a user-accessible component like the ink tanks—it’s part of the internal ink system that handles excess ink during cleaning and maintenance cycles. HP doesn’t provide a direct method for cleaning or replacing the service tank yourself, but here’s what you can do if you suspect it’s full or causing issues:”

Yes. See this official HP Support video for technicians. I can't find any quotes for the specific replacement parts, but they're just sponges so you can just cut them yourself.
This is unlike the EcoTanks, who implement DRM chips in their waste ink service replacement.

          • @Meron35: Thanks. That YouTube is quite handy. Was hoping the process would be simpler.
Hopefully I won’t regret my purchase.

      • Canon redesigned their printer to fix the issue. Pls read the comment to the YT video in your link.

Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea. I had an Epson ET something before, but only printed in black and white. Will keep in mind next time I make a purchase.

  • Lots of mixed reviews on this printer.

I have got one since last year and so far going very well. Had an epson Eco Tank 2810 and it had issues with Color printing after two years. I find HP more better then Epson in eco tank.
