        Who hurt you bro

          • +18

@belongsinforums: Most people won’t bother engaging with comments that are needlessly nasty or disrespectful. The only real attack here was from the OP, calling him a (profanity) and tryhard. Want to address that? let’s also not ignore how harsh it is to say he “left a daughter fatherless” while completely dismissing the complexity of suicide and mental illness.

              • +13

@Donmega123: Better to be sensitive than proud of being pointlessly cruel about about a real person who struggled with mental illness.

                  • +5

@Donmega123: Ok got it, you’re just here to be edgy. Not interested.

                    • -6

@youfnc: Get a grip, this is about as edgy as a cup of Milo.

                  • +7

@Donmega123: A coward? How so? So easy to slag a dead person who you didn't know, based on interweb malicious gossip. Demonstrably so.

                      • +4

@Donmega123: And you didn't answer my question. Who is "carrying one" about anyone, and who described them as "special and unique"?
Conversely, its easier to just deflect I suppose.

                      • +4

@Donmega123: people who can create 12 seasons of any show are actually special and unique, as proven by the fact most shows don't last 12 seasons.
Grok reckons less than 0.5% make it past that number.

Until anyone actually deals with mental illness one does not realise how horrifying it is.

                        • -3

@Ti-au: So by your inspired rationale the creators of the bold and the beautiful are the most special and most unique and say, David Milch of Deadwood is among the least so.

To think you needed artificial intelligence to come up with this non sequitur.

                          • +2

@Donmega123: the creators of that show were special, whether you like to admit it or not.
They created one of the longest running TV shows on earth!
People were invested in the characters and stories.
You might have disrespect for it (which is fine - everyone is entitled to their opinion, just like you might have disrespect for JRR Tolkien) but the high audience viewership rewarded them.

You comparison against David Milch is very weird to me because NYPD Blue had 12 seasons, which put in the top 0.5% of TV shows in the world…..
                            So both were special.
(and yes by the 12 season, NYPD Blue was getting long in the tooth).

                            • -1

@Ti-au: He sacked most of his staff when the woman he killed himself over flipped out at them, they aren't the same people that worked on it through the show. 12 seasons of a foodie show isn't comparable to 12 seasons of NYPD Blue. It's probably more sensible to compare to a vice travelogue or similar. Tolkien is a crazy exception to many normal literary rules, beyond scope of convo. We shall see where his corpse lands, but there's only one Kurt Cobain.

Proceeds to not demonstrate anything besides being a whiny edgelord.

While not everyone may agree. You have a valid perspective and I for one appreciate that you voiced it.

The ratio of negs to positive votes on DonMegas post is a good reflection of where society is at…

@mlburnian: Yes you should be definitely be proud of being part of group b and not evil group a.

        • +2

You don't think it's weird to judge a person's professional output (which was prolific) because of a perception of their social life & private relationships. Weirder still ignoring the fact AB was a recovered heroin & coke addict & completely ignore the causal relationship between prolonged drug use and mental health issues, but that's par for the course considering his mental health was dismissed in such a callous & grotesque manner.

          • -2

@Captain Yobbo: Yes, I have covered this very clearly, is getting dull now, let the poor bloke rest and stop fiddling with his corpse.

  • Time to put the youtube video downloader I got from another ozbargain deal to use.

    • +12

I mean if you are going to do that and go into that much effort in downloading 104 individual episodes one by one, you might as well just download a single file containing all episodes ☠︎︎

      • +1

It's a decent downloader - lets me strip whole playlists. Usually I do take that route though.

      • +1

Just chuck the playlist link in and let it do its work 😀. Or even the username and just rip their complete uploads. No user interaction required

    • +3

You paid for a "video downloader"?? What's wrong with yt-dlp??

      • Jdownloader works for as well, and that's free.

      • Ytdlp takes 54 billion years to download anything and command line sucks

        • I use Seal as a frontend GUI; suits me perfectly (especially for clipping). What's faster than yt-dlp?

    • +3

Disagree. To commit suicide, you are obviously in a very dark place. You can see in later episodes he was really struggling with his work because people were following him to the places he was visiting and ruining the places he loved. Also I think in the end people were depending on him and using him for money, it got to him in the end you can tell.

R.I.P to the original salty witty kid punk kid from NYC.

Who exactly was he sheltering and where are you getting your information? Curious to know.

          • +2

@Dogstar: He's talking about Asia Argento, who Bourdain was in a relationship with.

She has been (credibly, afaik) accused of sexually assaulting a 17 year old in a jurisdiction where the age of consent was 18.

            • @dekekun: Yeah he paid 400 grand to the child she raped to keep it quiet.

SBS on Demand has Seasons 1-12

His other docos including "A Cook’s Tour", "The Layover" have been available on SBS at no cost for ages.

SBS has been showing these on TV for years.

    SBS FOOD:
    Tonight S10E5 "Seattle".
    Tomorrow night S10E6 "Sri Lanka"

Thoroughly enjoyable on so many levels

    • I find when I stream using SBS app on Apple TV the quality not be very good? Is it just me? I have no issues streaming 4K using other streaming platforms

  • +2

sad watching these now….used to watch all his shows.

Step out of your parents basement bro

      • I have not heard of this news before so it’s probably wasn’t big enough, otherwise I would have heard of it.

Read about it now. His partner denied what happened. So you believed the kid (who probably wants a windfall) over her.

Even though he paid the money, he still out shines based on pros/cons analysis:
        - he didn’t do it himself.
        - he was helping people. If you had a very close friend (or partner in his case) and was in the position to help, wouldn’t you do the same?

      • Keep your rude comments to yourself

Youtube videos qualify as bargain posts now?

  • i stumbled across this channel recently and couldn't tell if it was legit? is there anything that indicates it's like the 'official' channel?

in the meantime i was watching it on a 3-month docplay trial with no ads (also available on ozb)

I loved No Reservations and watched it all. But find this series kind of boring from what I've seen. Not sure why.

    • +1

I agree. I loved No Reservations, and watched all of it… it felt raw, curious, and like he was excited to be discovering places. Parts unknown/the layover were not as good and I only watched some (had their moments)..

  • Been hanging to watch all the seasons

For those interested, there is good documentary about Bordeain - Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain

Also the book "Down and Out in Paradise" by Charles Leerhsen is a good insight into the man.

"In the Weeds" is another book, a look behind the scenes of working closely with Anthony Bourdain, written by his long-time director.

    YMMV.

  • -6

When ever I hear Anthony bordain I automatically think of Epstein and they have nothing in common maybe it's their style and how they lived.

    • -1

Bourdain was on the outside of similar circles, he breezily claimed to have had some run ins with mossad, which he may have had through his girlfriend's brief involvement with the me too movement. He's kind of like the Jordan Peterson for ambitious people feeling stuck in the service industry.

On a related note, I updated my previously submitted post Anthony Bourdain: A Cook's Tour - 2 Seasons 35 Full Episodes Free Streaming @ SBS On Demand & Hoopla

UPDATE (July 2025): The original deal post's URL (GoTraveler.com) no longer exists (awaiting moderator to fix it) - instead, you can go to SBS On Demand's hub URL for Anthony Bourdain: A Cook's Tour (all 35 full length episodes across 2 seasons) - this requires a free SBS Account

Alternatively, Hoopla also provides video-on-demand access to both of these seasons (requires a valid Hoopla registered account; sign-up requires a valid public library card and valid e-mail address - see FAQ)

  • I haven't followed him to much since his tragic passing, but I'd love to see his travels back in the 80s 90s through out some of the countries he visited back then. They would have been magic moments without all the tourist scams and predators we have now.

  • Strangely enough he didn't travel until well after Kitchen Confidential was written, aside from a several trips to France with his family as a very young man. He was much more interesting as a naieve American excited by the world than as a world weary boor who had seen everything and had to hang out with celebrities etc.
