Been using this for 10+ years on all of my and relo's cars.
Gets plenty complements on how "new" my pride and joy looks, thanks to this clay and other detailing steps.
A brief weekend detailing steps could involve
Promise the misses it'll be a quickie wash.
1. Wash the car using the two bucket method.
2. Dry the car using microfibre cloth.
3. Clay the car one panel at time. (whilst being questioned the misses why I "soap" the car)
4. Re-Use the dirty clay for the Alloy wheels.
5. Wash and dry the car again.
6.a) If the missus is unresponsive at this stage(rare), DA polish the car.
b) or if she has noticed I took out the wire extension and started chasing me, switch to Turtle wax Hybrid Ceramic spray(best value/longivity sealant than other products I tried)
7. Wash and dry the car one more time (Shouted by the misses on why wash the car the third time!?)

No need to car wash for 6 month. Repeat.

Sorry for the story telling, couldn't help it.

    • +18

      Don't be, it was beautiful

    • +2

Can confirm this, she does the same to me too.

    • seems to be a pet topic with my son, he wants to buy some but i personally use a clay pad or what they call it, it’s very mild abrasive pad and you rinse when finished, very quick, very easy, still need clean car and something to lube when using, seems the major brands like mothers and others make them besides traditional clay bars. can’t recall clays existing 30 years when i still had my 1st car.

    • +7

Are these steps for cleaning cars or your misses?

Either way I’ve taken some notes.

      • +2

Missus is probably annoyed the car gets the quickie and not her, elevate your game OP.

      • +3

        FRFR, IYKYK

    • +3

Don't be bud! that was the best part.

    • +1

+1 for the storytelling: was on the edge of my seat and wondering if you survived

    • +3

This brought tears to my eyes.

Another pro tip for fols with snow foam.
After step 1, foam the car once again (panel by panel works best and then use the clay bar with snow foam acting as a lubricator.

      • TIL, gonna invest in a foam gun attachment for my Ryobi pressure washer.

      • True.
In fact, after step 1, can skip step 2 and just do this. Instead.

    • +1

Came for the deal, stayed for the story. 10/10 would do again.

  • +1

What do you use with it?
Edit: What do you use for lubrication?

    • +1

I use the leftover water in the clean bucket from the wash stage.

      • i use soap and water.

    • +2

What ever detailing spray, or just use car wash/soap water.

Key is the clay should always be able to glide on the panel with ease.
      Keep the clay moist.
Have plenty lubs on the body.
Always squirt more than what you think you need.
When the clay is dirty on one side, fold and mold with a fresh surface.
After 5 folds, I usuall just reuse for the wheel.
      Cheers

    • Bowden's Own does a hybrid clay lube + fallout remover which I found convenient. Stinks to high hell, but convenient.

I'm sure Carpro or other brands do something similar.

Optimum No Rinse at a low dilution works well too

  • +1

I just use the "wash n wax" liquid… is this enough?

    • +1

Wash and wax is for 1-3 month maintenance between deeper cleans.

Clay bars will removed foreign contaminants that has become stuck in your vehicles paint surface.

A general wash and wax will not remove this and in some cases improper cleaning will push it deeper into the paint.

If you have never used a clay bar on your car, give this a go and you will be surprised how much it will turn from white to a gross brown colour from all the pollutants it will pick up.

Example of car paint contamination including use of a synthetic clay towel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i4u03UkUs8

      • +1

he uses a clay towel, i have a clay pad / sponge, and you can feel the difference in smoothness, and they are reusable. clay bars, clay pasta, clay towels, all are based on abrasion, the difference seems to be the particle size of the abrasion material between products and methods, hence why you need to keep it lubricated.

  • Just got these
    They work. Whooo

  • +3

mrs usually summons once she sees Step 1 is done.

    • +3

Same, step 2 is usually mow the lawn.
      3. Hang shelf/ picture.
      4. Put car wash gear, lawnmower, drill away.

      • +1

I think you miss understood what he meant by 'summonsed'. Apparently carwashing is right up there with eating oysters.

  • +2

    Showing $31.95?

    • Same for me.

Edit: now shows $17.90 for me but I get the usual location error on checkout "…can't be shipped to the address you selected".

      • +2

All the prime deals are not shipping to me anymore

        • +1

i hate amazon hating me for being regional :'(

    • Still shows $17.90 for me. Is it that you dont have Prime membership?. It is a Prime day deal

    • +4

It’s due to the delivery location.

I just tested it out, my address shows $31 and my friend who lives 30 mins away shows $17

  • +1

I only tried Mother's, how does Meguiar's compare?

    • +2

Simillar, both are quite fine? Also used the blue cheap clays from Ebay, texture feels crummy.
At this price, you wont got wrong

  • +6

Just got for $17.40 SCA price beat,

    • they wont for me cause you need prime membership….

  • What’s the difference between these and ceramic sprays?
Also how to fix minor scratches and dents on car panels?

  • Got 1 pack to try

    • +2

You wont regret the smooth finish after the clay, as long as your clearcoat are in decent conditions.
      Make sure
use car wash/soap water to lub the surface.

      Cheers

Damn, that’s your whole weekend gone dealing with just one car and one wife ;-p

  • Now, time to buy a DA polisher

    • On this topic, any advice on a good polishing machine? Or do you just use a polishing pad on an angle grinder or drill?

      • No reccy for a da polisher but in case you're serious I wouldn't use an angle grinder (rpm too high)

        • I thought it might be

    • It's a slippery slope. I bought a DA polisher and now I've ended up with 3 of them. Repco 240v, Ryobi cordless and Repco Nano polisher. If only I had the time to use them.

  • Does claying remove existing protection or ceramic coating?

  • Promise the misses it'll be a quickie

    Tried this, does not work.

  • I could totally rewrite the description considering the missus does the "quickie wash" in this household, and oh boy would the mister have very different thoughts than the missus in your description!

  • Showing $31.95 for me :(

    • Same

      • Same. Am I doing something wrong?

      • Says one left if you go now

        • I almost had it, but after clicking buy now, it was gone 😟 OOS, now

  • I use this.
One time my car’s bonnet and front were splattered with paint specks (don’t know where I got it from, probably after a trip to Bunnings). I didn’t notice until after a few weeks. Tried using polish and didn’t work, I then use this and try. Now the paint dots are gone but not before 10 hours of claying to get rid of those final tiny white paint specks.

    • This happened to me too. They were painting the front of the factory next door with paint rollers. My ute got covered in white dots. Absolute clowns.

      • I thought I had to get someone to strip the paint to get the dots out. It’s better to remove them as soon as you notice. Mine was left for weeks and needed a lot of elbow grease to remove them with two clay bars (think at least 500 up and down motion to remove one dot).

        • Lol um dude.. you absolutely used the wrong products for the job. A cutting compound would have removed those dots in literal minutes, not hours!

  • just went out of stock 😢

  • $31.95 for me :(

    • same

Missus this, missus that. Missus on a pedestal. Men, wake up or it will be too late

  • Can you recommend buckets and grit guard for 2 bucket method. I bought buckets from SCA years ago and have been using them with no grit guard because I couldn’t find one that fits.

      • +1

No idea how I haven’t seen that. Much appreciated.

    • +1

Are you serious? What size is your bucket? You using a cup?

Most of the generic grit guards are small diameter and fit even the cheapo $2 buckets.

Quick search even SCA sells a SCA branded one, shown being used in a small bucket.

      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-bucket-dirt-trap…

      • Haha yeah, to be completely honest the last time I even looked must have been 7+ years ago. Back then I couldn't find any bucket/grit guard combos so I had to buy a grit guard on Ebay that ended up being too small for the buckets I got from SCA.

I'll have to go back in and grab a bucket/grit guard combo for the dirty bucket. Thank you.

  • +3
  • +1 for the story telling !

  • +1 for the write up
And yea for the Deal too

  • Literally just bought this for my first time a few weeks back. Just my luck AHHHHHHH

    PSA
if you're stopping at step 5, make sure you apply a wax, then sealant.
Also, if you want to go the extra mile, Bowden's has a product for exterior vinyls and plastics.

My step one is the tyres and wheels/rims with Bowden's Own Wheely Clean. Cos my tyres get so dirty, it's about 10 minutes with each tyre to get it nice and shiny. Turtle wax Tyre Cleaning foam for the rubber.

Don't forget tyre dressing at the end.

    • This. You've stripped the protection off the car with the clay, now it's exposed to UV rays and all kinds of pollutions and prone to scratch. It's important to use some wax or sealant afterwards.
