How Is Your Exetel One Plan Treating You?

Hey all! For those of us who have taken the leap to Exetel with their $80/mo One plan, how has it been running for you?

Overall, it's been pretty good here. However I do notice random intermittent lag spikes. This is most notable when online gaming. One second it's running flawlessly, low ping times; nek minit, 500ms ping and then slowly works its way back down.

I haven't changed my home mesh network or placement of routers, so I know it's not my internal network having issues.

I will note that I had similar issues on my Exetel 100/20 plan, but it was resolved when I hit up support live chat and the rep did something on the backend for me. I tried again on the One plan, but to no avail. Curious about anyone else's experience.

  • Haven't noticed anything bad here. Just works.

  • Same no issues. Full speed through WAN and around 240/43 behind VPN.

  • Speedy, I sign up with the knowledge that they're forcing CGNAT on us. But I thought I could pay $5 for a static IP but it's not even an option!

I'm just gonna stay for a month or two then. I need Port-forwarding for some services I used at home so they all stop working now

    • Can you use Tailscale or IPv6 as a workaround?

    • Does it affect plex if it's within my own network or people trying to access my network?

      • CG-NAT breaks remote access to Plex.

  • I've just moved across from Leaptel 100/20 to Exetel 500/50, so far so good!
I'm getting up to 515/45 speed test.

  • Signed up last night, the switch was so quick. I was expecting to pick a date myself as I just notified my ISP I am cancelling on last day of this month.

Anyway, I am on exetel now. In terms of the speed, the download speed is currently around 130/25, nowhere near 500mb.

    • just tested again, now getting 370/47, very happy!

Some older routers can't do 500Mbps. What is the brand and model number of your router?

Do a speedtest using wired Ethernet.

        • Thanks for sharing this. Im on 100/20 and was going to swap to Exetel as my remote cameras are cloud based but my router/mesh system is quite old so i dont think it will handle 500. Might end up costing me more money with a swap…

          • @glennd: 100/20 boosts to 500/50 (FTTP & HFC) in September. Exetel made the change early. What mesh system do you have?

            • @Twix: Ive got the first gen google mesh system. Honestly havent looked but it would be getting close to 8-10 years old so surely not.

@glennd: Google Wi-Fi gen 1 ranges between 150-500Mbps Wi-Fi 5GHz. Some users said it worked ok and others replaced it for faster Wi-Fi. Not much you can do but test it out.

@Twix: Thanks Twix. Look its 24 dollars cheaper than what i'm currently paying. Lets give it a crack, i'm looking to upgrade the mesh system eventually anyway. Hopefully it just forces me.

@glennd: Exetel is a good choice. Other providers will have 500/50 in September.

Maybe wait for November Black Friday sales unless something else pops up.

my router is ASUS RT-AX53U. Now the download speed is a bit over 400M. I am happy with that!

  • Seems like this plan is only for FTTH connections. I am on FTTN and this plan is not listed. Shame as I am paying $85 going to 100/20 for $80 would be great.

Is FTTN cheaper for Exetel than FTTH?

    • I think you mean FTTP? It's $80/mo flat for a 500/50 service.

  • Just ported over yesterday from More to Exetel, no issues / no changes in Valorant pings (10-12ms)

  • I tried to port on the weekend. I am now on day 4 of having no internet. Customer support is a joke. No end in sight.
