Gaming PC for Teen - Budget $1200

Hi team, I have been reading post here in order to find a gaming laptop for my 14 year old son. He plays Minecraft, Warframe, Rainbow Six, Siege X

After reading recommendations on here I have narrowed it down to these two, but it might as well be speaking a foreign language because none of it means anything to me,

TechFast RTX 3060 Gaming PC: AMD Ryzen 5 5500 $1199

APEX LIGHT RYZEN 5 5600 | RTX 4060 $1299

Is one of these better than the other, or is there something else that I should look into?

Both of these suppliers regularly advertise deep discounts on ozbargain - at $1200/$1300, neither are decent value

And tbh, I would strongly recommend an am5 based build (eg, a 7xxx or 9xxx series Ryzen cpu), for easier and cheaper future upgradability - even if just for ddr5 memory

@Nebula PC & @techfast - either of you running a good sale at this price point?

I know many people will probably think about this but buying parts one at a time, then building the computer together with your son is a great activity. It encourages you to spend some time together and actually can help in the future if you need to troubleshoot.

Building a pc really isn't hard, a few youtube videos and asking ozbargain if parts are compatible and even websites to show compability is already a tool that makes the basic planning pretty entry friendly.

In the above post you have linked both a desktop not a laptop, are you asking for gaming desktop recommendations or laptop?

These options are better spec'd and cheaper.
You can save the extra cash, customise the build to have better specs or buy a nice monitor/accessories with the leftover budget

Just get him a footy, or some books.

Are you even a parent? And I mean one that doesn't have a court order denying access.

FWIW warframe and minecraft should run on any potato

Gaming PC or laptop. Your title says one. Your post another.

    I'll assume PC

Do you also need screen/kb/mouse/OS ? Either way, get a used system.

hey, great that your getting your son a pc, however would say that the pcs your looking at are really bad value. here on ozbargain there are some really great deals and I personally got one from techfast and love it. highly reccomend both techfast and nebula depend whats a better deal. also. $800 is more than enough there is a nebula deal with a rx 7600 and a ryzen 5600. get one of the deals that fits your budget

  • $1200 is a decent prezzie

  • I got a 6700XT, 16gb, Ryzen 6600 on OZB for about 1090 delivered in OZB about 18 months ago. You need to look for better deal.
