Have Electricity/Gas Retailers Updated Their Prices to Reflect Latest Changes?

HI Everyone

I recently received a letter from my energy provider stating rates will increase from 1 August, yet their website and comparison tools still show the old pricing. Has anyone else spotted this and are retailers taking time to update their sites or will comparison services pick up the new rates soon?

Plenty of chatter on Whirlpool about this. Seems people already with a provider are getting notices of increases now (contractual obligations to notify of changes) but the general public is still to find out. Pretty big increases being mentioned, no decreases. Very, very few options to lock in rates. If wanting to change… for gas, I would hold off (still very manual with meter reads, etc.). For electricity, it's alot easier for most (digital meters), so up to you.

  • If in Vic, make sure you look for the “energy fact sheet”, which will have the date the product was released.

It is a pain because you can’t go and try to find a better deal because the retailers still have their old prices and you can’t tell what the new prices will be. So I guess we just have to wait until early August to switch

  • I have gone through 6 different providers in Vic and none of them have updated their websites with the new rates. What's the point of publishing the old rates when they're changing 01-August? With gas, if I don't change provider now, my next read will be 3 months down the line and I am going to be stuck with the current provider till October. The providers are taking the people of this country for a ride and Albo is visiting China so he can convince more tourists to come and spend money in this country!

      Your bias is showing! 🤭

I switched to a new gas plan with the same provider on July 2nd. I was told that the billing cycle stays the same but I’ll have two different pricing tables. So don’t assume, just ask your provider.

After being with my provider forever I've just changed to Sumo 7 days ago. This morning suprise, suprise I get an email reading rates have gone up around 30%, and more than my old provider, who bumped theirs up at the start of July.
I'm going to give them the GF after 7 days. Sumo's still showing old rates on their website, that's a low act and companies who pull those kinds of games shouldn't be rewarded.

Even compare.energy.vic.gov.au is pulling outdated rates.

  • Would it be better to lock in 1 year electricity fixed rate before 1st Aug or wait until providers release new rates? Which normally works out better?
