Bumper Respray on Mercedes 2010

Short story… Had my 2010 Mercedes parked in the street while visiting my Father-in-law. We believe the garbage truck has grazed the bumper with their tyre as in went in to pick up the bin.

If they don't front up, I am out of pocket as nobody saw incident. Have quote for touch up guy to come out and respray $600….Anyone know what it would cost for a full bar respray? Located in Melbourne… No damage to bumper other than paint removed and rubber left on bumper…

What do we call the guys that work on rubbish trucks?

        Half-day working millionaires?

        • Well, there is that but …

          • @Euphemistic: Always remember, politicians and public servants get a LOT more and do even a lot less than half-day millionaires

    “If they don’t front up”
    No chance.
No witnesses, no footage (unless you check with neighbours). not even sure it was them.

    Truly sucks, sorry
Get a few different quotes, we had a touch up guy come and do a few things on a 2017 Tucson and it was about $500

    DIY. $60.

plaster a baby on board sticker over the scratch. that will make sure no other cars hit it in future

    If they don't front up

Yeah, 0% chance of that happening.

It's a 2010 Merc. The spray job would be worth more than the car. And then what? You spend your $3,500 getting it repaired and *BOOM* next time dad is over, the garbage truck swipes it again…

Hit it with some cut and polish to get rid of most of the rubber marks and leave it.

Cover scratch with Star Wars stickers or some other novelty eg adhesive bandages

Buy another one, and sell this. A current or former toyoto owner would buy it. They have to drive toyoto for now, but they live to have their own Mercedes!

On a 16 year old Mercedes, that's called over capitalising.
The bumper would be more valuable than the parts behind it :)

Even by car guide it's valued at $18,000… Say its worth $15,000 how could you say $600 is over capitalizing? 130k on the clock, Panoramic sunroof , Smooth V6 motor. Drives Beautifully….I use My XR6 Turbo for vroom Vroom. This is so funny……Obviously not a car guy…

Even by car guide it's valued at $18,000

Yeah, maybe if it's an AMG or a C or S Class… My bet is that it's an E Class and you are just picking the highest value and not the lowest. The price variation will more likely be from something like $1,250 to $17,450.

        130k on the clock

Yeah, so much closer to the $1,250 mark there then.

        Obviously not a car guy

I am a "car guy" and owning a shitbox, low end 14yo "Merc" does not make someone a "car guy".

That's ok mate you're a big boy seems like you like to talk crap…..Harden up grab a Snickers…..

        • Fyi E series isn't considered low end learn your mercs…..Especially the V6

        • An E class is above a C class in luxury Learn your Merc……

Most people scrooge when it comes to car maintenance. They choose market value rather than the initial cost of the 2010 car which can be anywhere 5-20x. The market value depreciates for most cars but parts and labour don't.

I hate seeing clearcoat peeling off. I also can't put up with bubbling window tint. Then again it's your car your choice. At minimum make sure it's got good brakes and tyres. Life is too precious to cheap out on safety.

To properly paint your car I would expect it to be a 2K paint job at $600. However I doubt it would be achieved without a paint booth, excess paint recovery and IR heater. The person also need to pray very hard so it isn't windy because I know wind brings dirt that will stick on wet sticky surface. For $50-100 small ding mobile job that's okay but for $600 I suggest you go to a shop.

Keep checking the wrecking car yards and FB marketplace. Hope that they have the same car in your colour with a better bumper bar.

    • Tempted but it's only paint damage otherwise bumper is perfect not even a scratch…..

Buff out the rubber then purchase a can of spray paint from Automotive parts store. The manufacturer's paint code should be inside the door jamb. Use the code to assist in purchase of the correct paint to obtain a good match.

    • Yeah proper process is too take petrol door or in my case a large chunk of paint that came off from the rub….Purpose of post was to see if anyone knew of a panel beater that was well priced and approximate cost of doing a whole bumper was ….

      • As you have found out you will get 99% smart arse answers on here

        • My mistake… I thought it was a community…I'm still pretty with it for mid 50's But I would rather help people out than slag them……(edit ..Suppose you just need to filter through the crap… Sad though as I have recommended Ozbargains to some 20 years older than me and it's hard enough to understand technology….)
          Cheers

@fprjet: The community is great and you have been given some sound advice. In short, your car is not worth fixing unless you are prepared to do it yourself. Other than that you’re on your own with finding a panel beater as per the sentiment here
