Channel 7 News Streaming with "Buffering" - Is It Just Me?

I watch the news via 7Plus when preparing and eating dinner as our Kitchen/Dining Area doesn't have a TV, which we are fine with. We have been doing this for a number of years, but lately, there has been a lot of what appears to be "buffering", and it occurs on multiple devices across two internet connections.

Here is what I have tried:

  • Different Devices - Laptop, iPhone, Android Tablet
  • Different Browser - Primarily use Chrome
  • Different Internet Connections - Starlink plus primary ISP. I thought at first it was Starlink, but then I checked my primary ISP, and it was doing the same thing
  • DNS is not default, it is using CloudFlare

I don't believe it is an internet connection and/or device issue because it works fine pre-news with the final moments of The Chase, and then about 5 mins into the news, it plays up.

Additionally, I can be streaming something else, such as a YouTube Live Stream, and it's fine. Clear as day and no "buffering".

This has been happening almost every night for probably the last 2 weeks.

I think it is a Channel 7/7Plus issue, but haven't been able to confirm. Does anyone else experience the same thing? Whilst it might work during the morning, I am specifically talking about the 6pm-7pm time slot.

If it makes any difference, the location is VIC watching Melbourne News.

TL;DR - I am experiencing consistent buffering issues when streaming the 7News bulletin via 7Plus around dinner time, despite using multiple devices, browsers, and two different internet connections (Starlink + ISP with Cloudflare DNS). Other streams (e.g., YouTube Live) work fine, suggesting it’s likely a 7Plus issue specific to the Melbourne 7News stream rather than my setup. Wondering if others in VIC are experiencing the same issue.

    Just you,

Just tried and works well. Ipad pro - 1000/50 origin nbn

    • It might be fine now, I am talking specifically talking about the news time slight (6-7pm).

      As I said

I don't believe it is an internet connection and/or device issue because it works fine pre-news with the final moments of The Chase, and then about 5 mins into the news, it plays up.

It is fine during the lead-up to the news whilst The Chase is on. But it is specifically during the news. When Home & Away comes on (no, I don't watch it), it kinda does something similar but then by about 7:30pm, its fine and back to normal.

Same thing Channel 7 Melb. Signal from aerial and it has been happening 6-7 for a couple of weeks

Yes I’ve seen this too. But not very often.

    • Okay, so I am not the only one. Last night I noticed it was extremely bad.

  • In my case, and possibly unrelated, the program loses audio sync after every ad. This is on a chromecast.

We've noticed this for at least 4 weeks now. Didn't used to have this issue. However, we don't care enough to actually chase up any technical reasons..

    • I notice that every now and then. I notice it on the ads, some ads have the wrong audio.

  • Have noticed it lately . On the weekend it was during AFL.Often early evening now and then. If you flick up and down a channel it repairs itself. Then later breaks up again. I wonder if its a traffic capacity issue. It's only an occasional thing, and not for long periods of time, in one hit.

      Thanks for your input genius.

    • So you are streaming it via a TV?

Not surprised about that during the AFL, I thought that could happen. I watch my football via Foxtel Satellite or streaming on a device.

I suspect it is a capacity issue. Last night was really bad during the news; some nights are worse than others. Its not even worth watching sometimes with how bad the drop outs are.

      • Yep TV. In that instance Freeview

Is your issue black screen or broken "stuttery pixelation" ? Affects audio too?

        • It is as if it is buffering hard. Image stops. Audio stops and then it shows the buffering spinny wheel. Then it starts again and might play for a bit, before repeating.
