    Nothing seems to indicate $89

It's out in a couple hours and still says $99?

    • +3

New games don't appear on Target until the morning of release.

  • +2

Here we goooooooo $69 by christmas

    • +1

      Nice.

    • -7

my preorder is already $68 with amazon ($30 of discounts) if they match Target that might drop to $59 🙏🏻

      • +1

Can i price match your preorder

  • I feel like we're going to be seeing a lot of these first party $89 deals…

      • +3

there is no extra effort imho vs PlayStation/xbox so the price being so high is not justified

Have you seen the price of a new first party PS5 or Xbox release?

        • -1

Honestly, in most cases it's dropped to $100. Nobody was too keen on $120. For standard editions.

Xbox is the same or can be much cheaper for a physical edition if it's on gamepass. Or you can get gamepass which if you use it enough is cheap as chips for a rental.

PS5 has hardware that is a harder to code for. Even then, better tools now exist to assist than when ps5 first came out. Other consoles were always easier to code for.

          • +3

@justtoreply: $100 isn’t what I’m seeing looking at the PS5 preorder or recent releases for major releases. They’re falling between $110 to $125 on the platforms, same as Switch 2. That’s across various genres and studios. Games like Ghost of Yutai, Death Stranding 2, upcoming Silent Hill, various EA Sports titles, MGS Snake Eater etc.

At retail the presence of competition sees lower prices for physical, sure, which is why we’re also seeing Donkey Kong here for $89 and have seen other Switch 2 titles go for lower than the digital marketplace.

I’d say Switch is largely equivalent to the other platforms now, with the sticker shock being that Switch 1 for a while had been lower than the competition. Competition jacked their prices years ago.

  • +4

Nintendo only released the Switch 2 so they could add an extra $25 to the title price.

    • -2

      More like $40

      • +1

I read somewhere that the game was originally planned for original Switch but it didn't have enough grunt to run it. So the way it was released is probably due to lazy programming or maybe time constraints? Who's to say they won't release a patch in the future that optimises the game properly for the Switch 2 ?
Regardless, the game seems to be a banger going by all the trusted reviews, and most people care more about that than technical information.
(I didn't downvote you because everything you said is true, except for the $120 price :) )

  • +1

Hope pokemon ZA would have the same deal

    • +16
      • +4

        $97.95, no?

        • -1

Yes it was, but it also came with the expansion pak which sold for around $40 on it's own from memory.
I remember when the first Turok game came out on N64 it sold for around $120, there were a few others too like Conker's Bad Fur Day.

          • @whitey: They seemed to pack in the Expansion Pak with nearly every game that needed it, don't think many people bought it seperate.

            • @Merlict: Yeah, 2.5 games required it and one always shipped with it (Donkey Kong), while Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark could be bought with or without it. I say 2.5 because Perfect Dark required it for the single player campaign but you could play multiplayer without it (and that multiplayer was damn good, and had bots for lonely players).

Interestingly there's also one game (Space Station Silicon Valley) that crashes if you have the expansion pak, so better hope you kept the jumper pak that shipped with the console.

            • @Merlict: I did because I had a young family and could only afford to rent games at the time.

      • Haha. That's just the same thing in the 90s…. Kids being ripped off on one platform, when other options were available.

      • Value exchange rate of the aus dollar was much lower than it is today.

      • -2

Do you really bought games for $89.95, 20 years ago? 😅

    • +6

SNES and 64 era games cost more than this at launch bro

      • Yes, the games cost almost as much as the consoles.

        • N64 was a few hundred at launch, right? I remember pooling Christmas present money to get one. And only ever having 3 games for it because of the rental market and swapping with other kids

      • +3

Of course you could rent games in those days, so gaming was affordable for kids. I used to wash cars around my neighbourhood for $2 a pop as a kid and if I did 5 cars a week I could rent 2-3 games for the weekend. (Cheap labour but I did a crap job, so I was lucky.)

    • -1

Well apart from inflation (which this game is below the price trend), or the fact it's a AAA Nintendo Exclusive - game reviews have put this into GOTY nominees and beating Expedition 33 with some reviewers. So it has been justified.

Personally, I don't pay more than $60 for a game given my limited time to play, but seems fairly priced for the number of hours/gameplay you can get from this - at least 12 hours worth.

In comparison, would you prefer a Premium Freeware game with paid in game skins/subscriptions? Cause seems EA games is probably your preference.

    These new prices are 🍌🍌🍌

  • Has anyone had trouble getting the $10 voucher from big w inner circle? I've tried 5 different
e-mails in the past day and nothing.

    • I had no issues, I used it to purchase my copy. I'll be making use of the Target newsletter to get it for $79 and returning the Big W copy.

    • Try doing it while you're on mobile data

  • -5

Not too interested in this one after watching the trailers and Odyssey gotta be one of my favourite games.

If anyone picks it up lemme know your thoughts on it

    • +3

If you liked odyssey, chances are you'll like this. I'll be playing tomorrow

    • +2

I wasn't super interested in it from the initial footage either, but got to play it at one of those Nintendo Experience events and changed my thoughts.

It feels pretty great to play as a 3D action platformer - smashing through chunks of the level to hunt for secrets or ripping a boulder out of a wall to piff at an enemy is very satisfying.

The only lingering question from me is how much variation there will be in the levels and gameplay gimmicks in them.

Anyway, reckon it's worth looking at a review or two when they're out!

      • +1

Yeah that’s what hung me up a bit. I like the premise and everything but it just looked a bit same same from most of the footage I saw. The biomes looked too similar in aesthetics and nothing really gave me that “hook” to want to grab it day one. Even though the only other first party so far is MK World, which even then imo is a bit lacklustre with such wide and straight tracks.

I will eventually pick it up though, it will still be a lot of fun.

I think part of it is convincing myself to wait as I cooked my right thumb and most I can play atm is AC NH lmao

    • +1

Seems to be doing really well reviews wise. Was at 91% metacritic last night.

Yet to launch it myself, will tonight, but digital foundry team were similarly not that enthused after trailer one, but have come around and given a very positive review of the game yesterday. Their focus is generally on the tech, but John there did leave some time to say the game itself is very good. Described as a bit of a blend of Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW thanks to the deformation opening ip gameplay options.

      • Yeah I used to watch a lot of DF videos, great minds and insights.

Yeah I kinda got that vibe with TOTK a bit with them kind of giving you some keys to the kingdom in versatility in how to approach a situation.

    • I ended up biting the bullet and I haven’t been able to put it down

  • I'm surprised more people didn't buy it yesterday from Harvey Norman to get it early

    • early?

      • Yeah, a HN store in Sydney was selling it last Saturday.

        • As far as I'm aware they all ended up doing it because of that store

  • Has anyone who got the big w deal had theirs shipped yet? Mine is waiting for release date so it’ll probably come next week or something 😭

  • oos online?

    • +1

it hasn't come in stock yet, should be in stock in the morning.

      • Thanks, I'll keep my eye(s) out!

  • Saying sold out online and in store ? Does the price go live tomorrow or am I too late

  • +2

Just picked up a copy with the $10 welcome email. $79 delivered. Only became available in the last couple of hours. Thanks!!

    • I've got delivery not available melbourne

      • I'm in regional NSW and just ordered online for delivery for $79, that's weird that you can't.

        • Hopefully will change at 9am. I still might not buy it, testing out the + email trick.

  • No stock in SA? Anyone else managed to purchase?

    • +1

There is no delivery option. For me it is showing only in stock @ regional Vic stores. Bummer.

      • Same here. Wonder if it sold out or the system stock hasn't been updated yet?

        • +2

Given how early I checked and limited stores were showing stock I'm guessing not all stores have updated their stock until staff get in and count it. The stores showing here were the major distribution style stores

          • @justtoreply: By that logic you're saying not a single staff member in metropolitan melbourne has counted the stock yet and stores have been open half an hour

            • +1

@King Steuart: I was only saying what it appears like in my area, which is not Melbourne

            • +1

@King Steuart: I called the store, they have plenty in stock. Also said it's first in best dressed and then will be available tomorrow for online order.

              • @sendcoupons: I'm just gonna hold. Potentially price beat the $89 at Officeworks. I've got a $50 gift card to use.

JB online chat refused to match $89 because no stock online in Melb

    • Last night I thought I'd pop into the Castle Plaza Target just to see what was up.

They had Donkey Kong Bananza in stock in the Switch 2 section, which was to the right of the Service Desk.

This is separate to the Switch section, which is on the left of the Service Desk.

$89 listed as an "introductory offer" until the 27th of July.

There was one more copy left, but I don't know if they have more stock or not.

Worth just popping in to your local Target to check (but not the Unley one, which seems to have no video games at all, and might be the crappiest Target in existence just based on its "vibe").

  • +2

09:07am and there is no deal. This should be marked as expired or non existent or data harvesting or smthg.

    • At a guess, I'd say there's been an issue or oversight with updating the website on Targets end. It is displaying as $89 for me, but no stock at stores nearby, but if I check interstate, there is.

      • I called the store, they have plenty in stock. Also said it's first in best dressed and then what's left over will be available tomorrow for online order.

  • +2

No Targets near me with stock, but I was able to price match it online with JB.

    • yeah nothing, and cannot get delivery either

    • Show receipt

  • +1

A lot of the targets in Brisbane don’t get the games in stock Will big W match this?

  • +2

Couldn't get stock at Target so price matched at JB + Perks + Macquarie GC = $75

    • JB price matched even with out of stock at Target?

      • No problem at all. Maybe just got an easy agent

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Was able to get EB to price match so that was great. Might have got lucky with the staff member who served me as there was no stock at the Target in the centre.

  • +1

Also got JB to pricematch this one online.

Just checked out for $89 with C&C at local store.

  • $79 at JB with price match + Perks

  • +1

Chance for Amazon to price match? Still got the app promo waiting to be cashed in.

  • +3

Just talked to someone on the phone and they said that there's an issue with the website and don't know when it'll be resolved. I'm going to wait for it to be fixed so I can use the welcome discount code

  • +1

Got my price match at JB but will wait and see if Target will have more stock in stores showing online.
There’s a Target that have stock for click and collect 18km away but not sure if the petrol cost and parking spot hunting worth the additional $10 savings (welcome discount).

  • +2

    Target are a joke.
I called and there was plenty of stock.
I placed one on hold and just picked it up.
For some reason they are not updating their website as my local store in metro Melbourne had plenty.

    • Let's just hope the $89 price keeps until the website is fixed, so we can use the $10 welcome discount code ontop.

  • My store showed stock and I've picked it up but now I'm wondering if I really do have it or DK tropical freeze or something. Can't open the bag yet so the suspense will keep me going

  • +1

Amazon a bit slow on the Price Match front…
