Automatic Headlights for a Ford Fiesta 2015

Does anyone in SE Melbourne install automatic headlights systems for a 2015 Ford Fiesta?

I can have a relay put in to only have them on when the ignition is on but my SO wants automatic headlights as she has been used to this system.

Struggling with manual headlights? A good tip for when to turn them on is when it gets dark.

    • Tip = it is often more beneficial tip - before it gets dark.

Street lights on = head lights on.

Less than perfect daylight clear conditions or ……

Defensive Driving = Headlights on all the time.

  • Even people with new cars with automatic headlights struggle. I saw a new Hyundai Tuscon last Saturday night driving on the Freeway at 10pm with no lights. It was a dark maroon colour and you couldn't really see it.

I guess it didnt need headlights afterall if you could see it and identify the make/model/colour.

      • I new the make/model because my wife owners one and I could tell the colour as I drove past it.

Why not leave the headlights on all the time?

    • +1

Yep, best simple cheap answer. And you get the benefit of daylight running lights as a bonus.

One question though, what bulb do they use? Is it a type that would expire quickly from continuous use.

Oh god, how did some people survive before their cars did everything for them? Imagine being so inept that you can cant turn on your car's lights when it gets dark.

Just tell her that they are automatic and just leave them on. Or, just tell her to grow up and learn a new life skill. Tell her it is "retro" and make a ShitTok showing how to to do it.

      inept

Such a great word, and applies to so many of these posts.

Automatic Headlights for a Ford Fiesta 2015

Just to clarify, are you looking for someone to retrofit auto headlights to your Fiesta, or literally swap the entire car for a set of lights? 🤔

    • Hi JIMB0

Looking for someone to install a kit that has the light sensor which turns the lights on when it gets dark / tunnel etc.

      Something like this:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/127222705558?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norov…

      • I installed a kit that had auto headlights and wipers years ago. It's quite involved as you need to intercept the signal wires from the control stalks.

        • Thanks - that was why I was looking for someone who is in the game to assist - or some advice as to a point of contact.

          • +1

@Sainter Dad: Try a place that does car audio and dash cams if you want someone to do it for you. Otherwise get on YouTube for some DIY videos specific to your car.

Introduce your SO to your friendly local auto electrician. Tell her to take her credit card.

    2015 Ford Fiesta?

If you can't DIY the above kit from ebay, you're throwing good money after bad?

    It's a 10yo car.

    • +1

Is it time to buy another car?

      • No. A 10yo car may be good for another 5 to 10 years before you scrap it but there's no point spending money to upgrade it, especially for something like auto-lights.

        Can't polish a turd.

        • So a 20yo car is the ideal scrap time?

          • @freeb1e4me: ‘May’

          • +3

@freeb1e4me: The (less than) ideal scrap time is when something breaks that costs more than the value of the car to fix. There is no age when a car isbscrap, just a point where its value is less than the cost of runnng it.

            • @Euphemistic: Excellent answer

              • @freeb1e4me: We have 2 2007 cars in the drive. Theyll be good for a few more years - as long as nothing serious goes bang. Both manual, so highly unlikely to have issues with the gearbox. Just the engine, and we keep up the oil changes so they shoukd be good for another 100k km.

                • @Euphemistic: How many km so far and How often you change the oil?

                  • @freeb1e4me: 240k km. Service per manufacturer schedule (10k). Only had one for a couple of months, the other have had for about 10y.

                    • @Euphemistic: Japanese cars?

                      • @freeb1e4me: Nissan, built in spain.

                        • @Euphemistic: X-Trail, manufactured in Japan.

                          • @Hackney: D40 navara variants built in spain.

                            • @Euphemistic: Navara actually comes out of Thailand & has done for quite a few years.Spain is no longer used. The majority come out of the UK.(Juke,Leaf, Qashqai.)The rest, 370Z is Japan, Pathfinder USA.

                              • +1

@Hackney: The D40 navara stx model and the r51 pathfinder came from spain between about 2006 and 2012. The rx model d40 came from thailand. Maybe they stopped the Spanish builds when they went to the d23/np300 model but I haven't kept up with that because dont need to.

Every time i go for parts for the navara i have to confirm the first three letters of the VIN because they built the d40 in both Thailand and Spain and there are a lot of different parts.

        • A 10 yo car with 14,500kms on it (full mechanics workout) - not scrap value yet.

  • Just install the ign switch and run them all the time.

Unless you can DIY its better to learn how to turn them on when its dark.

Seems like an expensive solution for a simple problem

    • +2

Seems like an expensive solution for non-existent problem

  • Leave the switch in the on position. The car is new enough it should automatically turn them off when you stop the car.

    • That is the problem - it does not

      • An auto electrician can fix that.

        • Not without the photo sensitive thing - that what I came here for….. My mistake.

          • @Sainter Dad: Photo sensitive thing?

          • +1

@Sainter Dad: GordonD is saying that an Auto Elec could wire the lights to turn off when the accessories are turned off rather than "always on when in on position". He could wire it like what new cars do, turn them off when the accessories/engine is off.

          • @Sainter Dad: See this>
Mate if your SO just demands a sensor driven option only , over an always on, auto off HL option, the ,n the problem is no longer the headlights.Or if breaking the bad news is too hard for you, like we keep saying a qualified auto electrician will do exactly what you want (properly). And he /they will charge you proper good too.

Hard to to view this whole discussion wrapped around the immature excitement level of 'wee!' the lights come on in a tunnel scenario, and nothing else.At every turn you seem to have rejected the simplest, cheapest, common sense solution advice, to return to but my OS wants.
            Whose car is it?
What do 'you' want? (in the ,Fiesta conundrum,I mean)

Money + auto sparky + parts = result.

  • Setup an ITTT routine that has your SO’s phone yell TURN THE LIGHTS on when it gets dark, /s

    (If this then that)

  • If anyone is interested - the attached will clip in between the connection and operates as an automatic lights

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007347033503.html?spm=a2…

    Under $100

  • I think you should modify the SO, not the car.

Although KO HO is the common sense approach.
