do these suffer from the paint chip issue on the case that the 5410's did?

    • Thats a common thing with almost all Silver models

      • +11

dell cheaped out & painted black plastic rather than getting them made in silver, so many look like they have been in the trenches

    • +1

Yep, just as bad, these are solid laptops, but the silver paint scratches off if you even look at it sideways, leaving ugly black marks everywhere, 5410 to 5450 all suffer the exact same problem. My 5450 is 6 months old but the corners and case are all starting to wear away even though I keep it in a laptop bag and rarely ever use it as an actual laptop. (sits on a desk docked most of the week…)

I've noticed the new Pro series that replaces the Latitude is coated with a new material, waiting to see if it holds up any better.

      • +2

The new pro series to knowledge is fix is fixed. Dell Pro laptops are "magnetite" which is just black plastic. There is a silver version but I have not seen that one, likely the same issue? The Dell Pro plus models are actually metal this time around no more paint.

    • i have the exact model provided by my work and dont have issues for 3 years. Mind you it sits on my desk 6 days a week. Only pop it in a bag once a week.

  • How long would the battery on this last? Need a cheap laptop that will last me through uni, but it needs to last in exams.

    • +2

Hmm get a powerbank that can supply 65w and you should be good

    • +2

Depends a lot on the battery condition and what battery type these were configured with, which doesn't seem to be mentioned in the post. With the standard 42Wh battery in "excellent" condition, I'd give it 2 - 3 hours max. (The 11 series CPU + 32gb ram really eats battery and these latitudes weren't designed for long life on battery…)

    • +6

My kids both have ex lease dell latitide 74** series laptops from Australia computer traders for high school. The son has had his for three years now with absolutely no problems. Many of his classmates have been through multiple new laptops in the same time. Your mileage may vary but those black business latitudes are quite hard to kill.

    • Complete gamble, but assume not that long based on my experience with 5410, 5420 and 7410 in a corporate environment. After this long (4 years old) they are mostly toast and give about 20 minutes. Really depends if the seller's 'refurbishment' process replaces the battery or not.

      • these on this post guarantee not replacing battery otherwise they will put in bold, and increase the price by $50 lol

        • +2

Very likely. Though this is already about $150 more than it should be

  • Need specs on the hdmi

    • HDMI 2.0. Or use USB-C to HDMI cable

  • +2

This post categorises this laptop as Used.
On the eBay listing, it is showing Condition: Brand New. Then in the description, it is Very Good - Refurbished.

    Which is it?

    • +3

Brand newly cleaned but its used

    • +1

A 4 year old model of laptop is not going to be in any way 'new', lets put it that way.

    • -3

Thanks for your query! The item is refurbished and in very good condition. I hope this clarifies the listing for you.

  • With trs this is cool price…

  • +2

    Condition listed as brand new

  • +2

Misleading eBay listing - says brand new at top, description then says refurbished.

  • +6

ordered as stated brand new on listing, so will be expecting a brand new laptop. thanks

    • +7

I think you'll be in for a surprise.

      • +2

hmmm maybe can complain and get $50 refund?

        • +1

          I tried they said no.

  • +5

Not a good price for a USED i5-1144G7

    • +3

hmm probably right… saw on ebay 5420 but with 8GB ram for $254 (and then less 17% off for ebay plus) so yeah should be 300 for this, i think seller trying to profit more just because 32GB ram

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/205225207454

or 279 with 16GB ram which should be enough for most people
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/277247109135

      • +1

And the 16GB model is black (not silver)!

      • Are you using a code to get 279? I have 299 + 20 delivery.

WSJUL17 not working on this one for me.

  • +3

We have some of these at work. They were great and very reliable with minimal warranty claims needed out of all the fleet, but not at their current age of about 4 years, most are starting to die about now and be replaced. Definitely don't expect much battery life, you may get lucky, depends how it was used during it's business life.

    • +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience!

      most are starting to die

Quick question, are they all dying in a similar way? And what ways are they dying?

      • +1

General instability/freezing so potentially not something you can do much about if it happens. The only replaceable parts would be SSD/RAM and I doubt it is the ram (we don't replace any internal parts either way).

  • I use one of these for work, although the i7 1265U and its not great. Heating issues and fan goes loud if you have multiple monitors etc, add Teams and a few other apps and you're flying. Build quality is all plastic but the touchpad is big and responsive.

  • +1

What part is the bargain? Who would ever pay more than this for a 4 year old used laptop with these specs?

    • +1

32gb ram helps slightly, but yeah, I'm not sure what the normal price would be if this price is a "sale". Especially because they probably got it for free as e-waste..

$300 would be a lot fairer

Any similar mini PC is $150-250

  • How does the warranty work?

Buyer needs to return to place of purchase?
    Dell warranty?

Looks like retailer warranty on eBay.
