[PC, Steam] Sid Meier’s Civilization VII $57 (Was $119.95) + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ EB Games

670

If the Epic Games Civ VI freebie crumbles like the Roman Empire, or you just want to try the latest edition, then it looks like EB Games have a Steam 'code in a box' on sale for half RRP.

Note that it's literally a code in a box: if you order C&C, you'll have to go and pick it up (they won't email you the Steam code).

with all the bad reviews on steam, i can see why this is half price

    • +12

I remember they hated CIv 6, when it released. ANd before that hated Civ 5. It's always a trend with these people. Understandable cause ur essentially buying this game in beta.

Ofc don't buy it now, but give it some time, and buy it WITH DLCs.

      • I played the vii trial on ps5 and was not very impressed tbh.

      • +6

This is different. The community has prettymuch given up on it. Heck its launch numbers barely beat Civ6 concurrent! https://steamcharts.com/cmp/1295660,289070

        Look at Metacritic.

        Civ IV - 94
        Civ V - 90
        Civ VI - 88
        Civ VII - 79

There really has been a decline.

      • +6

There's a nugget of truth to this that you're using to misrepresent the reality of the situation - the negative response to Civ 7 has been orders of magnitude more severe and enduring than previous releases in the series, it's honestly not even remotely comparable.

Civ 7 is the franchise seriously dipping its toe in the "enshittification" pipeline for the first time. More corners cut, more anti-consumer practices, more money out of the pockets of gamers and into the pockets of shareholders - it's a dumpster fire of a game.

As a massive Civ fan since the first, I always recommend waiting 6-12 months before buying, I often get it for 80% off the release price, depreciates quicker than a Chinese car.

10 years at least. Civ iv is still where it's at.

        • +3

My man! Though I do admit I don't mind some civ 5 from time to time but 4 is where its at. Just makes me a little nostalgic is all.

        • +2

          Yeah.

I Civ IV still holds up. Heaps of people presumably still playing.

It would be so great if this was runnable on an M4 Mac.

        • I went from CIv1 to 3 to 5 to 6, loved 1,3,5 but 6 was meh for me, haven't played 7 with all its bad ui and "features" I'll wait a few years at least.

        • +1

i actually prefer it to 5 and 6. and the theme for the game is so good too.

Yes it will keep me saying "one more turn honey"

  • Does it include the Mac version?

    • Yes it does.

      • +2

It actually doesn't include the Mac version. It indicates on the store page that it is the Windows only version. Can confirm.

        • On the Steam page for Civ 7 it shows Mac though alongside Windows? I figured if this code in a box is a Steam key, assuming it's all one SKU - it should include it.

So they duffed this one too huh..
Civ V was the pinnacle of CIV IMHO

    • Without a doubt

    • +1

Heretic. Civ was the pinnacle. All down hill since then.

      • +2

“In the beginning”… you could edit the intro text file ;)

Mate, the good old days. Coming home on the bus with Civilisation in that lovely box… Oh the pixelated graphics and memories…

        Any love for alpha Centauri?
        I loved it

    • +1

No way. Civ 4. Stacks of doom are the way!

      • we play with stacks of doom disabled ;)

    • +1

can you provide a link? Can't find PC version

  • +7

Judging from the horrendous reviews, 57.00 is too much for this.

  • +2

    How long until free?

Faster than Civ VI I bet.

    Is this for steam?
    Never mind it’s in post

  • Problem is you just know it's going to come with a mountain of DLC.. you'll then have to buy it twice at some point.

    • +3

I’m honestly holding off this time. It’s in a worst state than VI was, and you’ll either get GOTY or Platinum edition once we see the mandatory DLC

    • Already has 15 available and they are all inconsequential by the look of it.

The RRP is super inflated, makes the half price seem reasonable but its really not.

  • I think it was above $70 at the start of the sale, so I'm gonna wait until the last few days.

  • +3

Yeah, I'm going to wait until the major DLC gets released that actually makes it a complete game.. and buy it when it goes on special.

Meanwhile - just bought Old World for $15 off steam, which should keep me occupied.

  • Thanks OP - Will pull the trigger (and use that $5 coupon on ebay)!

I think people angry this game has spyware

    • I think people angry this game is crap

  • +1

The game is buggy, unfinished, has kernel-level spyware/DRM, according to reviews it has game breaking bugs and “changes in formula” that make it a less playable entry in the series.

I’m waiting for the bugs to be fixed and inevitable bundle deal next year for $15 or so.
