Yeah, didn't happen last time.
I can confirm that it's happening this time because I just bought this two days ago.
Lisan al Ghaib
You rang?
Thanks for confirming i’m not the only one with such kind of luck 💪
That means I can tell da wifey, just one more turn, go get changes into some nice lingerie. Who am I kidding there's no wife.
Hahaha neat tick! Thanks for your sacrifice!
Thank you for your sacrifice
Well they've already given it away once before. So cant be too farfetched
They only gave away the base game before.
Yeah but that made sense before, because then you bought the DLC… now they want you hooked and in the eco-system so you buy Civ VII
@MrFrugalSpend: Yeah, this was the opposite.
I saw the freebie coming up, and added to my wishlist, to make double-sure I don't miss it. Wishlist item was then like 85% off, but the freebie was a different link. Freebie was platinum edition. Hoping it was their genuine mistake, not bad faith.
It now shows in the Epic Games Store free section as coming next week, so this is definitely happening.
There have been last-minute switcheroos (even on confirmed-coming games) before, but in this case it looks like we really are getting it.
That's fair enough. Luckily it was the real deal in the end :)
start believing it then
Better believe it now.
I see it but still don't believe it.
Could be worse; it could be Civ VII.
Don't diss it until you have given it 10 years to mature and refine.
Isnt that exactly part of the problem?
Not for me. I only play games once they become classics.
Thanks, stealing this comment for my online dating profile. 😉
But sadly it's not the vastly better Civ V Complete edition…
I love Call to Power 2 with the Apolyton patch if you want a deep cut you can scoop on gog or yohoho at some point in the indeterminate future.
Civ has always had a two steps forward one step back that became one forward, one back, multiple to the side with civ 6. I greatly dislike the art shift for instance, but it's objectively not a true negative.
Reminder set. Thanks OP
(profanity) there goes my productivity
hear hear - there are good and bad sides to getting hold of games like this. And when I download them and launch, I know it will have an impact… but do it anyway
It's just like Christmas….
I don't wanna count the hours I've had on this game
Steam does that for you
Those who just bought it will be quite uncivilized upon hearing this news.
Use the 'reminder' under the description!
Legend thanks for this!
Arghh just bought the normal version for $5.29 back in January.
well that's good, surely you got $5.29 worth from the base game in 6 months ready for the DLC to be provided free
With how bad Civ 7 is they should be giving Civ 7 away for free and charging full price for this
Yeah, why give away the e superior game, makes no sense.
I alternate between Civ 5, Civ 6 and Humankind. I'm sure Civ7 has some bright spots as well so I think the problem with giving away Civ6 is that it's a perfectly fine substitute for Civ7 so why buy it if you can get this for free?
It's how most new games are now… they launch them half baked instead of polished and tested. Its an industry wide problem.
Would love to serve an executive of a major game publisher in a restaurant, they order a chicken burger, so you send it out half raw, only partially assembled and missing a couple of ingredients and tell them to pay up front but after they've half eaten it you might come back and assemble it some more, if they report the issues to you … so long as the restaurant haven't decided to drop support for it and move onto making a different burger instead but in that case they can buy that as well because we promise will have more ingredients *(…but still some assembly required and a long wait). But in the meantime, they can pay extra for other ingredients and sides we have available "as DLCs"
…. see how they like it
I'll forget like last time
anyway civ 5 is better lol
This is your friendly reminder that this deal is now on :)
I’ll check when I get home
Unsure of hours lost, civ5 cost 1000hrs
Thanks anyway
I got the based game 2 years ago. It's windows version only.
Hopefully, Epic includes Mac version this time..
doesn't seem so which is a shame
Steam has the MacOs version, while it's not free it's currently only $4.49 on sale.
Based version is $4.49
Anthology version is $21.70.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/289070/Sid_Meiers_Civiliz…
I guess Platinum version contains less DLCs than Anthology version.
oh I see! I might try to run the Epic version through Heroic launcher or Mythic but not very hopeful.
@rmsprs: It won't work. I'm pretty sure that the Steam/Mac store version, is recompiled for ARM or something. Using a different launcher won't do anything. But by all means, give it a try.
YMMV I couldn't get the MacOs to work for me on my 2019 macbook pro but best to try it out
Can't claim the Platinum edition any how if you've already previously claimed the base game. It shows as unavailable.
Update the Epic Games Launcher to the latest version and it will allow you to redeem it, even if you previously redeemed the base game only.
Hopefully, Epic includes Mac version this time
I think this every week and every week I am usually disappointed
I've already got the base version in my library from a previous giveaway. And as such it's showing the Platinum edition as being unavailable to me. Darn.
So check if you've already got the base game from the previous giveaway. You can't claim this on that account. It will always show as unavailable with no way to claim it.
We'll wait & see in a week - I'm sure there'll be uproar if Epic support doesn't find a way to resolve this issue by then.
I was in the same situation, so I contacted email support and asked them to remove the base version from my account. They initially said they couldn't remove free giveaway games, but I explained that the Platinum version was going to be free and they then removed the base version. The platinum version now shows as being available to buy on my account.
Good stuff. This worked for me!
I was just able to claim the Platinum Edition even although i already have the base edition. So it made no difference. All good.
Repeating myself from above, but update the Epic Games Launcher to the latest version and it will allow you to redeem it, even if you previously redeemed the base game only.
I logged in through the web browser instead and it worked. So either way works.
You could probably just put the link to the Epic free games. Civilization VI is listed there (from the 17th) as OP said: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/free-games
tick tock… I've set an alarm, I bet they only give something like 500 away and slam the doors on the crowds
Thanks OP. I apologise for having doubts that this was going to happen.
Just got it,
Cheers OP
does it say unavailable for anyone else?
I think its because I already own civ vi from a previous epic games giveaway but there is no way to upgrade editions, which is so insane. This company is so desperate to overtake steam and this is all they can do? https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/c-Category_EpicGamesSto…
Check which country your account is set in - for some reason mine was set to Russia, I had to log in to my account and change it to Australia and then it worked.
They've fixed it, no longer unavailable for people who already have the base game.
I just got it. There was just a pop-up asking to confirm whether I still wanted to “buy” it because it contains something I already owned.
It's legit, this is copy and paste at checkout. Can't upload screenshots.

Got it, thanks OP
Thanks. I haven't played this, but love this type of games. How does it compare to age of empires?
This is a turn-based strategy game. it is very different to real time strategy such as aoe. They might share some aspects of the strategy such as resources, skill trees, but the gameplay style is very different. since this one is free, why not give it a proper go :)
I would recommend follow in game tutorial and figure out and discover your own play style of the game at your own pace, as opposed to watching hundreds of YouTube videos on tactics and optimum build strategy and whatnot.
happy gaming!
Never played Civ in my life, but I've heard it's those games that will consume you whole. I'm hoping it doesn't (literally) do this, but nonetheless, thanks for that piece of info - I'll do the tutorial and go from there!
Side note: Personally, the only time I ever look at YT etc for most optimum builds, are for games of which I play online or are online-heavy. For example, Division 1 or 2, it was good to know the optimum builds, as if you jumped online and decided to do your own build (which was no doubt fun), you'd get 1-2 tapped by those optimum builds - and the experience ended up being sucky - it was kind of join the meta or die.
I mean it can get addictive (they have a running joke about how you can have "Just one more turn" when you've reached victory conditions, because it is never just one more turn), and I'm sure there are people who get right into the optimal strategies and all that, but you can also choose to ignore those people and just do what you want to and enjoy the game.
I loved AOE back in the day (haven't got around to playing 4 yet) and also enjoyed Empire Earth. Enjoyed both this and the predecessor so I'd say it's worth a go.
another game to add to library but will never get the chance to play.
Already had base game from a previous giveaway, might actually install this now
Me too. It says this contains something you already have, continue? I was thinking for 2 secs before I could remember.
This is da bomba
anyone know what the difference between Anthology and Platinum is? I already have Anthology from a previous giveaway, wondering if there is in anything in Platinum I am missing and google is failing me for some reason.
Platinum Edition includes base game + Rise and Fall Expansion + Gathering Storm Expansion + 6 DLCs.
Anthology Edition includes Platinum Edition and:
1. New Frontier Pass: Adds 8 civilizations, 9 leaders, 6 new game modes.
2. Leader Pass: Introduces 12 new leaders.
thank you!
you're welcome!
Anyone else have trouble with the security check on purchase of this free game?
It took about 20 attempts over about 3 hours for it to finally accept the security check was correct.
mate, your effort to get the game is next level lol
Probably never play it as well. Last good civ game was rev 2.
From the review it seems that C7 is not good tho? Anyone has played a new CVII can share?
Civ 7 is very undercooked.
Flavour is not tied to national choice anymore, as you can switch leader and nation with each age transition. In attempting to reduce the tedium of micromanagement by removing workers, they also removed many of the powerful strategic tools from Civ 6 (Like using a few workers to chop forest tiles all at the same time to power build a wonder).
The memento system being a bottleneck for making several victory conditions viable means most people just mod the game to unlock them instead of spending 300+ hours in single player.
The UI is lacklustre, the AI is a joke even at Deity, and the new army mechanics are unintuitive. The "meta" in multiplayer seems to be who can click the overpowered leader and nation combos the fastest at the age transition, and pivoting between victory conditions is too easy while sticking to your guns is less rewarding.
If you care about the quality of your multiplayer experience, I would say Civ 6 is the gold standard.
Apologies for the Rant - A Civ enjoyer.
Thank you for your review. So sad for the C7
Just one more turn bro, it's only 1am bro. I promise.
Already had the base game for Civilization VI when it was free back on May 22, 2020. So purchased again for the free platinum edition content.
Epic says I have 9 DLC but there isn't any real way to see at a glance what DLC you have with the game without clicking each DLC or installing the game. So here is what is included.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Platinum Edition Includes:
The Civilization VI - Civilization & Scenario Pack Bundle that includes the following six DLC packs
But does not include the following DLC
does Gandhi like going nuclear in this one?
Shame it doesn't have the Mac version when a Mac version exists.
Yeah shame. But no one cares about gaming on Mac tho
I got it, thank you.
Are we firing up a multiplayer game for all us OzBagain hunters??
I believe it when I see it.
