Can vouch for this, works very well for me.
I got this one last time and it sucked for my setup. Didn't connect half the time , very laggy , stuttering music and crashes after an hour or so.
Google pixel 7
Hyundai Tucson 2017
Same - Galaxy Ultra (latest one, my wife's so not sure of number?)
Golf 2016
Same here. I got one and it worked well for about a month, and now AA doesn't work at all, still works for iOS though.
I contacted the seller and they sent a replacement but that one doesn't work for AA out of the box, so went back to using a cable.
Damn I just bought this and now sad to see poeple say it doesnt work well haha
Worked well for a few weeks until it started stuttering on AA for me.
works fine for my s23 ultra, however on my partners z flip 4 it works for a minute then starts dropping out/stuttering audio
Be careful you don't break your usb port on your car. Pretty easy to do with that thing sticking out of it
My car has wireless CarPlay, but there's a significant delay when playing audio. A wired connection or simple Bluetooth seems to work better.
In previous threads people have recommended this one: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008817014705.html
It's cheaper, smaller and several ozbargain users have vouched for it. I'm just looking into these myself so no personal experience yet, just adding the info I've come across so far.
Been using 2 of these for close to a year. Up and running within 15 seconds of starting the car.
Because the car thinks it is a wired connection. It is difficult changing the source on some cars (if your phone and your partners phone are both paired and it connects to the wrong phone). On some cars changing it is easy, on others one phone will need to turn off their wifi/bluetooth temporarily to resolve this.
I have had that one before and it sucks in my experience. Lag and drops out a lot. Went back to wired. YMMV!
Same - looking at this deal with the Xuda in my desk drawer.
Agree.. this is a pain. Even when you turn off your wifi or Bluetooth android auto re-enables auto reconnects
Isnt that the idea?
I don't know how, but I only paid $13… :O
i have this, its great.
These work great. They're just under $28 delivered from Ottocast official on Alibaba. Min order is 2. Mine arrived in 5 days.
That one on Alibaba is a different unit, it's almost the size of an Android box. The OP unit is like a USB thumb drive. Not sure about performance differences.
No, it's the same item. comes in the same box from the same company. I use to buy them on aliexpress, then switch to Alibaba.

I wonder if this will last longer than the cheaper suggested above

I had 2 of the cheaper one and both stopped working after ~6 months or so (car 1 Golf, car 2 Odyssey with aftermarket HU)
I know wire is king but just wondering with this or other similar products, how bad is the latency with touchscreen response and the audio? something like 300-500ms delay?
Do some products have better response than others?
I've found with mine (which is a Xuda one) I notice the delay when using carplay and switching songs etc (didnt really touch the screen otherwise)
Seems to run much better on Android Auto and delay is negligible and changing songs is pretty instant when using touch or steering wheel controls.
YMMV!
I use these. Depends on the car. In the corolla, there is a bit of lag, In the Kona, no lag at all, In the WRX, it's exactly the same as plugging in the USB.
I use the carlinkit and it's great except for oversizing l occasionally dropping out. Not sure about this one. Going to buy one to try as a backup as the carlinkit sometimes drops out completely and i have to unplug replug.
I have tested a lot of these on AA, including this posted one which gets a tick. Connection speed is limited by the car's head unit booting, Bluetooth triggering and then switching to wifi. This one has no discernable slowdown. No audio issues or problems maintaining connection. It is well built, with my only point for consideration- you can get cheaper that will perform the same.
These are finally flooding the market after the original AA Wireless on Kickstarter many years ago.
I just got a $10 one delivered which I'll test over the coming days.
Thanks for the feedback. I have the original AA wireless too, but took a bit of tweaking to stop the drop outs - had to change to 2.4GHz wireless only. Are there similar options to tweak the ottocast?
Nah, plug and play, no app. I've never tested two of the same device after one failed to confirm, but my theory is it's QC compared to systemic. I can't back that up, there's just too many positive reviews mixed in with reviews saying the device didn't work. Even you and I, I've had AA Wireless since it launched and zero dropouts and you had issues. Is it everyone's unique car/head unit, and if so, wouldn't they're be patterns? Overthinking it
Of the dozen or so I've tested, it's one of two outcomes: faultless or connect then stutter/drop after a short amount of time. I don't know why. I have no doubt things which don't work for me will for others, and vice versa.
My AA wireless would always drop out in certain areas. Near a newspaper building, near fire stations, at certain intersections… So I think it was due to 5GHz interference at those locations. There have been Reddit threads where people have tried mapping out locations that they get drop outs
@Eatoff: Yeah, I know if two places near me and sometimes when passing big trucks on highways- I presume they're blasting something on their radios or whatever they use these days.
I am currently using the app “android headunit reloaded”. It works very well wired but looks like 15fps wired and feels slow. Most of the devices seem to do same wirelessly (looking at YouTube videos).
Anyone knows of a device that works well wirelessly?
can i stream video on this?
No. Most you can't, a deliberate choice. You'd need to find one which specifically advertises as with video- they exist.
My car's usb power continue to be on after the car is turned off and as a result, my phone is still connected to my ottocast. Any solution rather than pulling the cable out/ disabling wifi/bluetooth on my phone after coming out from the car?
If you are an Apple user, there is a solution to this in iOS26.
I bought the Carlinkit 5 Mini SE Pro from Ali Express after a deal was posted some months ago and everyone recommended it on here. Can someone explain to me how to use it? Lol.
My car has an aftermarket system installed. I have a wired USB carplay/android auto box that I've been using connected to the car via USB, but got the above cause wireless is obviously better.
When I plug the carlinkit into the USB, im able to connect my android phone to it but not able to display it on the system? Is this only compatible with certain systems?
Heaps of videos on YouTube explaining it
I bought a carlink mini pro 5 recently. It is killing my phone battery. anyone else having same issue?
WiFi and battery and mobile data - not going to be cheap on your battery tbh
I’ve been using an Ottocast u2air pro for coming up on 2 years.
Works really well, connects every time in less than <10 seconds.
Most issues are usually caused by me knocking the usb cable out.
Back when I bought it, I had tried the current carlinkit at the time and it was finicky so did some research and settled on the Ottocast. It seems in the past 2 years there are many more options and lots of companies seemingly reselling someone else’s product, like quad lock for example flogging one for $100. Could be their own unit but I’m just assuming it may not be.
Has anyone found one that lets you choose whether you want to connect to Android Auto (me) or Carplay (my wife), for when we're both in the car at the same time?
Yep, that's our problem as well. It won't let you choose, so we have to unplug, turn wifi/BT off of one phone, leave it for a while then plug in again.
Anyone else have good experience with Amazon sold versions of these? Thanks.
MG Zr excite from around 2020 with only wired apple car play. Am I going to be able to get android Auto running with this?
It will only do wireless what your headunit will do wired - so in your case, Car Play at best.
As a comparison this worked from the box and connects flawlessly, vs th3 carlinkt has been a very very hit and miss for us.
I was watching lots of reviews lately, and they suggested the Carlinkit 5 Mini SE Pro, which I found at AliExpress for like $18. Looks like it's $9 for new members too…
