JB Hi-Fi - Return and Rebuy?

Curious if anyone has done this before… Basically I ordered some items online for delivery, and paid by card.

If I was to buy some discounted JB gift cards, would I be able to take the items back, and get them to refund me, and then essentially buy them again, this time using the gift cards to pay?

Thanks guys

Do JBHifi accept online returns in-store? And is the item you want in stock in-store, they might need send the item you return back to some warehouse instead of just putting it back on the shelf for you to buy again. There's nothing stopping you returning it and buying the gift cards now and buying the thing again independently of the return, if you are eligible to return it.

Depends how much your time is worth saving $15..

Maybe OP item is $80,000 in value

What did they say when you asked them?

I mean in theory you could, but really what is the saving? $15 for a few hours work? Is it worth the hassle?

Is it really a few hours?
Next time you're at the shops, pop into Coles to get the discounted cards (+5mins of time, max), then waltz through the centre to the JB Hifi (+5 mins max) and return the original items (+5 mins max). Head on over to the shelves to get the same items and buy them with the discounted gift cards (+5 mins max). Estimated total time to achieve the OPs desired outcome is +20 mins max. That's a return of around $60/hour pre-tax during time where OP probably would not have had an opportunity to otherwise make some money, so there's no opportunity cost of undertaking this effort.

      • LOL Far more than 20 mins. You have to arrange a online return in-store, then pack the item back up, load it into the car, plus lets not overlook sometimes spending 10 mins in the checkout queue to get served at JB and you have to do that twice, once to return the item and once to buy the item.

You really should do this over different days as well, staff don't like people doing cheapskate sh!t like that to save a few dollars. Honestly if it was me and you just returned an item and wished to buy it again, I would refuse service.

Plus all this assumes the prices are the same for the item, aka the OP didn't buy it online at a discount, which is no longer valid in-store.

So yeah, far more than 20 mins.

That's a return of around $60/hour pre-tax during time where OP probably

That's assuming the saving was $15 and took no more than 20 mins, could only be $5 and take an hour.

  • As long as the products aren't from third party sellers (the new JB Marketplace nonsense) and it hasn't been more than a couple of weeks since you bought them, you should be fine to return and rebuy them with your gift cards. Source: I work at JB

      Thank you so much!

    • Wonder who negged you.

  • I suspect that you would need to purchase those goods at whatever price they are offered for sale when you buy them.

If you bought the last lot on a sale or discounted price, I'm quite sure that they're not required to honour the old price.

Also, is there a cost involved to return the goods?
