    Are patches deals? Legit question.

    • Not really a deal in isolation, but helps people to better understand the value of the Switch 2 to them.

      • +6

But these are listed on a million blogs already.

      • +9

So a forum post it is then

    • +4

Not only that, but I think all of these have been out since around Switch launch. So questionable "deal" and definitely delayed timing

    • +1

We allow new movies to subscription services, I guess once that flood gate is open this should also be.

  • +34

No doubt that these patches are a great thing, but I don't think there's a bargain here. Chances are these games would automatically try and download their latest patch naturally…

    • -1

      Chances are you’re wrong tho

      • +3

If you put in one of these games it will prompt you to update, i would say he is right.

        • Weird it doesn’t do that for me. I always have to go download them from the store.

          • @cramblamwich: That is weird, I have been prompted then get the "start software" option.

    • +9

      Goodness me. Who hurt you.

      • Nintendo clearly!

  • +1

Still waiting on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to get a patch that increases frame rate in 3-4 player multiplayer.

    • +3

Might be waiting 4+ years bc of mario kart world

    • -1

Mario Kart World suffers from this problem too, unfortunately

  • What does "Optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality." mean? 4K native? Upscaling?

    • +2

Either native or upscaled depending on the game I guess. Some might replace FSR with DLSS?

  • +1

I wonder if these will always be free or whether I should try to get my account onto a Switch 2 so I can download them all to my account

  • +10

No doubt good info, but belong in forum

    • -2

Why does it matter really? I for one am happy to see it here

      • +7

the site is called "Ozbargain", not "Oznews"… point being that this is not a bargain.

      • +5

It matters because there is no deal here and not even a time limited offer. These are just regular updates to games that will be automatically installed onto the console if you own the games. This isn't OzPatchNotes

Do we need frontpage "deal" every Tuesday detailing the latest Windows Updates?

        • +1

Spoiler alert; it was a Cumulative Security Update

  • +1

Why are these game updates free but you must pay to update the 2 Zelda’s or purchase the online expansion to get the updates free ?

    • Yeah, this is what I hate. Why would nintendo do this, but make these switch 2 'updates' free? I was surprised how big of an upgrade pokemon scarlet/violet had, and it was free! (thank goodness) But annoyed how the Zelda's upgrades costed money?

    • +2

Zelda upgrades cost money and buying the Switch 2 version of them doesn't even include the DLCs. It's purely greed.

      • wait, you pay for an upgrade to use on switch and it doesn't also upgrade the DLC?

        • +1

Yep, the Switch 2 Zelda editions are $99 without the dlc. Nintendo love being anti-consumer

        • +1

No. There is Zelda botw and Zelda totk both originally Switch 1 games. You can use the Switch 1 version of the game on the Switch 2 without any enhancements.

They made Switch 2 enhancements to both of the old Zelda games and re-released them as Switch 2 titles, to get these if you previously owned the Switch 1 game you must pay I think it was $10 per game to upgrade to the Switch 2. If you owned the DLC for Switch 1 it's part of the upgrade.

Normally whenever a game is remastered for a new console companies will include any DLCs released for the original games as a definitive remaster release of the game , after all these are quite old games from the previous generation just with minor updates for a new console so they throw it all in and sell it at a discounted price for the new console.

Nintendo on the other hand continue to charge for the DLC and didn't include in the new Switch 2 release. Means if you want the game + dlc and didn't previously have it for Switch 1 you are still paying $100 for an old Switch 1 game on your new console.

          • @Agret: So playing switch 1 Botw cartridge in your switch 2 won't even have performance upgrades due to the stronger CPU, unless you buy the upgrade?

I'm talking smoother frame rates etc. This happens automatically when you play other switch 1 games on switch 2.

            • +1

@Circly: From what I've read, the only noticeable difference without the upgrade is better loading times. There may be more consistent frame rates but it's still capped to 30fps.

            • @Circly: I'm pretty sure BOTW already has dynamic performance scaling since people with hacked switch 1 got smoother frame rate from it when overclocked so I think the upgrade would mainly be an increase on render resolution.

  • +2

I dont undertsand game companies releasing updates and making such a big deal that they're "free." It's an indisturty standard that updates are free now. This is just lingo that hasnt moved on from the old days. Like cars having "air conditioning" as a feature or banks having "fee free" accounts.

  • +7

Not really a deal. The definition of a deal is being stretched on ozb. I draw the line at those monthly free games on PSN that become locked once you aren't subscribed. Then become available once you subscribed again. And thats borderline not a deal in my opinion.

  • +2

I'm really happy to see product updates on OzBargain. Would love to see more system software updates for PS5, Xbox, Windows, MacOS, iPadOS, iOS, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Android. Keep them coming!

  • +4

Oh great.. these patches are a big deal for sure, but no bargain here

  • +1

Xbox does is better, still getting free updates 360 -> One -> Series.

  • +4

Maybe this was relevant when the Switch 2 came out, or if they added games to the list, but this isn’t new and hardly a discount.

  • +4

Should be a forum post tbh

  • +7

And Ozbargain sinks to a new low. Game patches posted as a deal… A non-event. This doesn't even need to be a forum post. This is the minimum that game and console manufacturers should be doing.

I'm trying to work out what is worse, game patches posted as "deals" or RRP consoles.

  • +3

Are we going to start posting Windows and iOS updates as deals now?

  • Ocarina of time 4k texture pack

  • I don't see this as a deal
