Surely an $800 4060 would be a better choice?
For whoever needs it, yes
Well if anyone needs one it would be too bad because they certainly wouldn't be able to find one…
@wombat81: "Only a few find the way, some don't recognize it when they do – some… don't ever want to."
@marshmall0w2: You have to find your way to a special fantasy world if you want to get a 4060 laptop for $800. It's called Marshmallow's Dream World.
But you'd have to be very lucky because the self proclaimed gaming laptop deal scourer of the Internet never actually posts any deals…
Is it oled? Bad with specs i am
It's IPS according the the specs on ebay.
Not sure, feels like its expensive. I thought its 395 max processornatleast
Does this one have the led light bar at the front?
Yes the under glow light strip
I think it does not, the AMD models do not show a laptop with the front underglow, pretty obvious picture omission to say it doesnt.
But how many nits
500 I think
Some nice digits!
Full specs are here, I think: https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/omen-max-gaming-laptop-16-ak00…
Display 40.6 cm (16") diagonal, WQXGA (2560 x 1600), 60-240 Hz, 3 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 500 nits, 100% sRGB
I'll wait for the rare Lenovo deal…
Whats the rare lenovo deal? I think im gonna go desktop this gen. Legion 5080s at almost 5k on sale is absolutely insane.
I will wait for the even rarer almost mythical 4060 for $800 deal.
ultimate rareness - has literally never happened
I think I got my 3070 for $1800
Environmental Ocean-bound plastic in bezel;
I'm all for sustainability, but how exactly would one categorise plastic as ocean bound? Wouldn't all waste plastic, that isn't currently in the ocean, be potentially ocean bound?
excluding microplastic in our body
Unless we go to the beach
laptops are never built for proper gaming experience
You probably think cars that aren’t “all in” in a particular category are not worth driving.
Or tomatoes aren’t really a vegetable and aren’t worth eating, cause it’s not a proper “vegetable experience”
I made you a fruit salad, with all your favourite fruit. Tomatoes, pumpkin, eggplant and squash. Yummy.
I would buy it at $3000 if it drops down 😢
This is a good deal, unfortunately. Prices of laptops with current generation Nvidia GPUs have risen sharply as there is no competition in laptop gpu market. Everyone has increased the prices so don't blame HP for not matching last year's prices.
Well, despite the arguments for or against a laptop like this one, Jarrod has made a video talking about this particular HP laptop here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57XKw_Nkqh4
It seems that the Omen Max16 with 5080 gpu he received has strange crashes that he cannot explain when pushed to the max performance. His unit is with OLED display, so theoretically it should be cooler to run. Something to think about before commit.
The non-OLED screen offered here is actually quite a deal breaker, for most people im guessing. Please be aware that they do not offer the OLED model on the 5080 on eBay for some reason, only for 5090 or 5070ti. EDIT: Just realised its also the AMD model (no OLED option) which may be slightly more power efficient, but isnt as fast as the Intel 275HX, you will also lose out some other Benefits like Thunderbolt and Intel wifi card over the Mediatek, and a lack of underglow light bar if that matters to you
Are people who are buying laptops like this for gaming actually using the tiny laptop screens for prolonged periods? I'd have thought most would be using a 24"+ monitor for their regular setup.
Considering people game on phone and devices like switch and steam deck, I don't see any issues with gaming on laptop. Maybe I am just old but I hardly feel any difference from gaming on my 32" monitor vs my 15" laptop (well not technically true since I can game on my bed with my laptop).
This isnt bulky enough to be considered a desktop replacement. OLED monitor is a pretty damn sweet thing to pass up, not to mention have resellable desirability. But sure if you think you're gonna be plugged into an external monitor the whole time then it isnt a big deal.
Even with those devices people want OLED screens.
I'd go for the 5070ti model with OLED monitor for $320 less. You get the OLED screen and Intel chip which may well even out the performance loss on the 5080 downgrade, especially if you game in non-4k resolution.
Yeah but the 5070 ti model only has 12gb vram which is already on the lower side you want 16gb minimum these days for any sort of future proofing.
So I mean when you buy laptops for gaming, future proofing is quite a bit less of a consideration due to its already very limited upgradability in every other component, especially CPU. So yea if you need the 4k gaming now then go straight to 5080 (along with additional performance), otherwise you dont really need 16gb Vram for 1440p gaming.
Doesn't that make it more of a consideration? On a normal desktop if my pc is lacking I can just go and buy a new GPU while with a laptop you can't change the gpu or cpu so you'll want your laptop with the configuration you pick last as long as possible.
