How Do You Use a “Digital Visa Card” Online with Coles?

Hey, I signed up for a BankSA deal that includes $40 if you spend $160 within 60 days at Coles or Woolworths using “your digital Visa card”.

I’ve added the card to my wallet but there is no mention of using digital wallets online. I rarely use my Apple Pay so maybe I’m missing something? Google suggested they don’t have Apple Pay online however is there some other way to use a digital wallet online?

Deal:

Cheers.

  • I use my digital Mastercard through Woolworths.

As you go through Woolworth's checkout, it asked you to enter your card details. I just get them from the card within the app because I have to check in there for the dynamic CVC anyway.

    Might be the same Coles.

  • I can enter my cards into the website but my understanding of the linked deal is it must be your “digital “ wallet. So, by entering the cards details it’s not technically the digital version. My understanding is they want to do away with the physical card thus the promotion.
Coles has Coles pay, however, that involves entering your card on their service which is also a big ambiguous.

Both use a static CVC which I think is the issue.

    • I don't have a physical card. My card is a digital card and it literally only exists in my digital wallet.

This account used to have a physical card, but last time it expired, they sent me this magic card that I can only see in my digital wallet or under card section of my account.

I think that's how they control the dynamic CCV- it keeps making a new one every few days, so even if my card details are pre loaded, I still have to manually enter the current day's security code.

If my phone wasn't charged, I'm thinking I'd be screwed because I literally do not have a physical card.

      • -1

Apple lets you use apple pay even if the phone battery is dead.

  • Anything stopping you from using Apple Pay at colesworth in person? Did you call your bank to ask?

    • They were unsure. Mainly time - we usually do click and collect.
I’ll pop in for a order though to sort this out.

      • Some apps like Didi and websites like mryum do allow the use of apple pay directly on the phone. Doesn't look like wither supermarket does that with their apps.

  • No definitely they don't work online due to lack of security features

  • Even Coles gift cards you can't use online at Coles. That lesson cost me $100. Ended up giving it to my brother who lives near a Coles store.

  • I had the same deal with St George Bank. Can’t do it on line. Need to use the card via a digital wallet which can only be done in person at Coles and Woolworths.

  • Not sure about your promotional offer as I can't see it online, but with the standard "spend $50 using digital wallet and get $50" it's actually a condition of the promotion that you do the transaction in person in a store, not online. Could yours be the same?"

    • Online was fine but you had to use the digital wallet - so apple, google, Samsung pay type of thing. Seems Cole’s hasn’t set it up so I’ll need to go in.
