Obligatory notice to not use an OTA - always book directly with Qatar Airways even if its more expensive, you will have cheaper seating options, extra baggage allowance, easier ways to change, modify or cancel your booking and its all A LOT CHEAPER than dealing with scummy OTAs.

Also psst for those flying out of Sydney on the Qatar A380, pay the extra for a window seat on the upper deck - you wont regret it

  Yes. It's about $100 more to book direct but well worth it… if you are in the mood for flying near some spicy countries.

  Yeah and the quality of the mandatory tarmac gynaecological inspections for those transiting through Doha on Qatar are much better also if booking direct.

Despite no QF points or SCs on the cheap fares, QR looks after QF tier FFs better than Qantas does. Once seated, we were welcomed "thank you for your loyalty please let us know if you need anything" and prior to meal service got to choose first.

Every Y seat - including exit - was available for selection after booking. Again QF saves those for top tier or if you want to pay.

Hilarious considering QR and QF are sworn enemies…especially with their recent VA dealings…

Oh and if you have OneWorld lounge access, QR out of Brisbane means you have QF or the Air NZ lounge…

Is it possible to add a few day transit in Doha? What would the additional fees be, if any?

Trying through google flights shows it's $1800 return with a stop vs $1400 flying through.

Wouldn't they want to encourage people to visit?

    Yeah, I've tried, can't seem to make stopover options work - did you just adjust the flights manually to leave a few days later?
    
    Edit. I think I worked it out: adjust the flights to multi city, add a few days in for the flights, and then it's $1450 return, all via OP's original link.
    
    Somehow Google Flights wasn't providing similar results, because I was was looking differently.
