Hey OP. Just a suggestion - I would find it really useful if you would share some general details on what the layover times are like.

    • +3

Hi - For this deal the layovers (from the flights I checked) are around 3-7 hours.

      • +7

Do they serve Hainan chicken rice on board?

        • +4

          Of course

        • +4

do they serve kangaroo on qantas?

    • +12

      better than Jetstar, heaps better

      • +6

        Even better than AirAisa

    • It’s a full service airline. If stopover is over night they offer free hotel stay. I had this free accommodation a few times, great value.

Anyone know if NAB reward points can book any of this?

    • -1

      Yes.

    • Do you see the booking option at NAB rewards portal?

Nating beats a jet2 holiday na

Not sure why hardly any airlines will fly direct to Japan from Melbourne. Sydney gets plenty.

    • +1

I'm still kind of hopeful that when Zipair (LCC of JAL) gets its 787-9s in a few years it'll deploy some to Australia, including Melbourne (which JAL also serves direct routes). But yeah, unfortunate that ANA doesn't bother.

      • +7

It would be nice if they would at least make the transfer prices to Sydney reasonable. They’re doing return flights SYD > HND direct for ~$1200 but adding MEL > SYD adds $1000 to the price.

    • +4

Exactly, it is not like Melbourne's population is much less than Sydney's.

  • +2

Can we stay few day in China?

    • Up to 3, I think.

    • 30 days visa free for Aussie passports till 31/12/25

  • +14

    Delayed in Haikou
    Sushi dreams turn into naps
    Still cheaper than Qantas

    • +3

      Isn't everything cheaper than Qantas?

    • Haikou

  • +1

    From sydney?

  • +2

Keep in mind that you have to recheck all your baggage for all international to international connections in Haikou. And the check-in counter for Haikou to Melbounre/Syndey/Tokyo flight won't open 3 hours before departure. You probably have to store your baggage in the baggage storage, as you may not want to carry those check-in baggage around during those long connection times. Please be mindful of what you are bringing into China, as you have to collect your baggage and recheck them again.

    • ppl should bring empty luggage to japan

  • When Hainan Airlines nearly destroyed my $200 suitcase I got only about 200 yuan compensation. And it took about half of a year of constant emailing them.

    • +1

You couldn’t claim via travel insurance?

      • -6

What travel insurance ? If I fly to Sydney I don't consider insurance cases as probable, I think we have good enough airlines for not worrying about it. But, this rule now has an exception.

  • +1

do they have a program where you can extend your layover? wouldn't mind a day or two in hainan

    • +2

      Do a multi destinations search.

      • +2

cheers. I love chinese airlines, I remember China Southern having a similar feature that let me choose dates at same price

        • +1

If you stopover is overnight, they even provide free accommodation. I had them previously.

    • Short flight to Shenzhen, tech heaven

    From Haikou's warm breeze,

    Japan's cherry blossoms call,

    Wings soar, hearts take ease.

      Saw what you did here.
      This flew under too many
      people’s radars. Shame.

  • Japan is the only place where you can literally get married in 24hours, like literally no wait just walk in.

The only place where you get the most ominous look if you drop rubbish 😄

The only place where a goldfish swims near a drainage.

The only place where dating happens after, once a relationship is formed.

And lastly the food vending machines in laundry mats make the best premade food, not sure if there's a man behind the back or an actual Machine.

Cherry blossom festival is April or July last I remember.

If the winter doesn't get you the humidity will.

Pretty sure Vegas is famous for drunken shotgun weddings that don't take 24hrs to plan. I also imagine littering would get you some harsh looks in Singapore.
