Yep, Garmin always discounts the outgoing gen. This time though, they made too mane important upgrades. :)
As someone that upgrades tech at every chance (eg buying every Pixel and Galaxy phone every year), I'm pretty happy with the 965 .. and for the price difference, I think many would be very happy with the 965.
@matt-ozb: I have a 265 currently, so need a bit of a bigger leap. Plus, the new sensor with ECG is just too hard to pass, it is not just the ECG but the sensor is more accurate too. Speaker and microphone plus torch could be great too. I always wanted to work on my running technique and 970 allows to track economy as well…
@Musiclover: i bought the 265 when it was released .. it was ok but I think the screen was too small and battery life too short using AOD .. upgraded to 965 about 1 month later and it was great.
I understand that plenty might like these features, but they are not useful for me …
1. I don't use ECG
2. I don't think I would use the speaker & microphone without a 4G/5G access for calls.
@matt-ozb: Mic is extremely handy for me to answer calls when I am riding. And I always have my smartphone on me anyway. ECG is one of those things that are like insurance, most likely not required but might be useful to have one unlucky day.
@Musiclover: I upgraded from a 265S to the 970 recently - absolutely loving it. The torch on the 970 is super handy, I use it multiple times a day.
Just on price, I was watching pretty closely and I noticed a few sites like this running discounts down to $1,299.
If you have a Macquarie bank account (costs you nothing), you can use their Marketplace and get 7% off a Rebel gift card.
So saunter down to your local Rebel, ask them to price match and use a custom value Rebel gift card to pay for the total exactly. Works out to be 13.6% off RRP. It was enough to convince me :)
One thing I found interesting, when I price matched I just showed my phone of the online mob to the employee, they barely looked at anything but the price. I feel like I could have photoshopped just about any believable price and they'd have accepted it. YMMV of course.

Less risk on a smaller wrist so you won't clench your fist.
Smaller watches harder to read on smart watches but 40mm would still be ok I think.
265 = I bought on release date but sold about 1 mth later .. screen too small and battery too small .. 965 was heaps better.

Good price. Recommended the 945 for a family member a few years ago when it was $499 (half price), they love it. Don't think you always need touch screen and other bells and whistles but will check our this model.
