this or wait for wifi 7?

    • +8

You won't get a tri setup for this price to start with, plus not many devices support wifi 7 yet. I have 7 and only my phone supports it.

Unless you need a broad local bandwidth, 6/6e will work just fine. I am on a 1gbps plan and 6 and 7 have worked similar and no performance difference noted.

      • +1

Are you able to max out your 1gbps plan on any of your devices throughout your home?

        • Yup, on most of them.

          • @Oh Daddy: Mostly on 6ghz or 5ghz as well? That's fantastic performance.

            • +1

              @northshore: 6ghz, haven't tested a full performance on 5

              • @Oh Daddy: Realised RBK763S doesn't have 6Ghz. "Tri-band" refers to 2.4Ghz + 5GHz + 2nd 5GHz (I assume for back-haul?)

                • @northshore: My bad in the earlier comment. There is no 6ghz, rather it works within the 5ghz band, just waster with AX and then 7 works under BE.

                  • @Oh Daddy: can i ask which model you have?

                    • @quasio: I have Xiaomi BE7000, upgraded from AX6000

                      • @Oh Daddy: oh!.. interesting.. is it working well? doesn't look like it has 6ghz?

      • Thanks mate

    • Wifi 7 has been out for years what are you waiting for?

  • +5
    • Exactly what I did, handy to learn that Officeworks do this

  • Dang! I just bought a TP-LINK AX3000 from TGG.

    • Which is a much much better purchase. If you need range, just get another one and mesh them together (FBMP is a valid source but rare for these at a bargin price). Netgear doesn't have a great track record with me unfortunately. And you have less settings to tincker with using orbi

      • +1

Thanks! This is my first mesh after having pretty patchy wifi around the place with 2 Telstra modems. So far, it is pretty good. I found a massive improvement in coverage and the performance immediately.

  • How big are your houses to warrant getting this much coverage? I've never had signal problems with my cheapo 50 dollar AX1500

    • +5

Doesn't need to be a big place. Apartments with thick walls can play havoc with single WiFi or even two-device meshed setups.

  • thanks OP grabbed one

  • -4

Call me superstitious but any router without massive antennae definitely doesn't work.*

*this is in fact my experience in a large brick house

    • +1

I've actually done testing with this exact model of mesh router. It penetrates through a very thick concrete warehouse wall and manages to rebroadcast the WiFi at the exact same speeds as the source node.

      • +1

Fair enough. I had a bad experience with an Amplifi mesh system, penetration was absolutely rubbish through a couple of brick walls. A single decent Asus router absolutely obliterates 3x Amplifi mesh nodes in my house.

thoughts on selling off a spare satellite if I only need the one? I have a small house, they aren't linked together are they? I don't see any reasonably better deals then this that are a 2 pack

  • Hi All, can this be used along with a ASUS DSL-AX82U modem router in a mesh setting or would it replace the ASUS modem router and make that redundant. thanks for the help and guidance

    • Asus Ai-mesh is a completely different system, which also works very well. Your current Asus router supports Asus Ai-mesh, so you might be better off just buying an additional Asus router that is Asus Ai-mesh compatible.

  • Thanks OP, bought for our factory.

  • Tri Band (2.4/5.0/5.0GHz)

I dont understand this. I thought wifi 6 used 6ghz

    • +4

Thats Wifi 6E. Wifi 6 uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

    • +5
      Wi-Fi 2.4GHz 5GHz 6GHz
      Wi-Fi 6 Yes Yes No
      Wi-Fi 6E Yes Yes Yes
      Wi-Fi 7 dual-band Yes Yes No
      Wi-Fi 7 tri-band Yes Yes Yes
      • so using the above logic, Wifi 7 tri band should be 2.4/5/5 and 7E should be 2.4/5/6

        • +1

          Wi-Fi 7 tri-band is 2.4, 5 and 6GHz.

          Wi-Fi 8 is also 2.4, 5 and 6GHz. Coming in 2028.

  • hi, I have an old Tenda Nova M3 .3 x mesh system. Im assuming this is a good replacemnt at a good deal. I just signe dup to a gigabyte plan and my mesh is struggling a little. I have FTTP NBN

    • +1

Yes, this is a great choice.

  • +2

Thanks Op got from Officeworks with price beat

  • +2

It’s EOS (end of service) ends in Jan 2026? So no more firmware update after that?

  • +2

How does this compare to the Google Nest WiFi Pro Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System White 3-Pack $376 (when on sale)

Google has 6E but this one has great reviews and a higher RRP

  • Isn’t the RBK852 pack a better deal? I think the two devices give you more coverage than three RBK763S, and the performance is a lot better.

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/netgear-orbi-rbk852-ax6000-…

    • Agreed but the EOS is already expired and there will be no more firmware update?

  • +1

thanks all. I got office works price beat . Im upgrading from the Tenda Nova which only cost me $150 for a 3 mesh system but this will be a significant upgrade for my new tangerine 1gb plan

  • This or Eero 6+?
According to camelcamelcamel AU Eero 6+ ATL was $389.99 in Oct 2024.

Price was comparable, both are router + 2x satellite + Wifi 6.

Can anybody comment on performance and reliability.

Does anybody also know about Netgear VS Eero subscription (whatever they are)?

    • Honestly, this is entirely personal opinion but don't bother with the Eeros unless if they come with your ISP and they give you the Plus subscription for free (as long as you stay with the ISP). I'm with Superloop.

I also hate the Eeros (even though I'm using them right now) as you can only configure them via the app - you cannot manage them via a browser/SSH and IP address like you do with any other routers.
It's a giant hassle if you need to reconfigure them for whatever reason during internet outages or if you swap ISPs as you essentially can't get back onto them as they are only accessible via the app on the internet (which you won't have when the net is down), and need to reset everything back to factory. You could set your new ISP's details beforehand but that's also a bit of a pain to remember/sort out ahead of time.

It works for me fine enough at the moment, and I needed ones ASAP when I moved to Aus so they're doing the trick for now - but I'll definitely move away from them once I get around to re-doing the networking around the house (and go up to WiFi 7).

I would personally stay away from anything subscription-based (especially when the subscriptions are US$100+/year), but I am coming from an IT/Tech background where I would put all of these "safeguards" in myself. It's entirely up to you on what you're coming from, and what you think you're lacking in and what you think the subscriptions will give you.

The "internet backup" feature of the Eero Plus subscription is probably the only thing I use out of my free subcription and it works fine for me, but you can get this from most other routers if you're looking specifically looking for redundancy.

    • Eero 6 plus for me , having used it for most of my time with fibre to the property. I not a tech nut , but I've found the Eero performance to be excellent for our needs apart from my brief stint with tangerine.

Just bought the Mercusys Halo H90X 3-Pack AX6000 Whole Home Mesh WI-FI 6 System for $229.

Is the NETGEAR Orbi RBK763S better?

    https://ebay.us/m/sv6zUl

    • +1

I got the 2 pack for around $150, on 1g plan I get around 800-900 down on wired backhaul to second node upstairs. Wireless speeds around 500-700 most places in double story brick house. Anyway it's enough for me as I plan to stick with 500 plan.

    • +1

@autopilotfootprints you made a better choice and your performance is going to be on par if not better. Mercusys is owned by Tp-link and my experience with them has been pretty good.

  • Can someone help me decide. Is it worth me upgrading my RBR50 mesh (X2 satellites) or hold out? Iam on 100/20 internet plan.
    Or invest in WiFi 7
Or invest in faster plan (current plan does what's needed)

    • +1

I can't help you decide but realistically , you be fine to stay where you are . After all , it's not going to be day and night difference 💯

    • @KingVenus I have exact same setup as yours. i am on 500/40 plan and get about 200 in the furthest room on ipad. I dont think its the router but its the ipad which is showing its age. I have TV and computers on wired connection and the setup has been amazingly stable. I wouldnt recommend changing unless you are having issues with range/connectivity/speed. Also, look in to Voxel firmware - I updated to this and dont need to restart my router every 2 days which i had to with Netgear stock firmware.

      • I have never heard of voxel, I will look into that. Thankyou for the update

  • Would this be a good upgrade from my current Google wifi mesh system? Currently on 1gbps fttp. Google mesh keeps dropping out and coverage is lacking.
