Great machine if you want to join the Pod Cult
Vertuo Machines are better for "coffee drinks" rather than "espresso drinks" -

Think - ooo what would a funky gen x barista would recommend - kind of machine

I had the opportunity to hear from a The Good Guys employee their cost for this machine is actually $625
So this is not too bad of a deal!

All colours reduced for the time being - black and white probably easiest to maintain

Just note that Vertuo means you have to use their pods, not generic ones

Seems pricey for a pod machine though?

    • +1

Expensive for a pod machine. A Barista Express is cheaper on sale.

      • -1

Bean machines are completely different - I wouldn't say that's a fair comparison

You can argue that there are Vertuo machines available for $150 instead of $700, that's for sure.

      • -2

Barista express doesn't have Bluetooth or wifi and OTA updates

        • +10

Don't know what I would do if my coffee machine didn't have bluetooth. 🤣

      • Pretty sure you can get a standard coffee machine for about $50. Makes coffee from grounds.

    • Yeah - Breville just takes the 'simple' concept and makes it a "premium" appliance. Sparkle sparkle.

I have seen 'reusable refillable vertuo pods' - not sure for their viability.

Why pod machine has to be considered cheaper than other espresso machine? It does everything a coffee machine supposed to do.

      • I think he meant Pod as any sort of pod -
their anecdote is fair - you are paying a "premium" for a machine and then paying a hefty cost of about $1 per serving of coffee - when it can be significantly more economic -

either a cheaper machine, or a cheaper dispensing of coffee
Vertuo do not have 3rd party offers at this time like the standard Nespresso Pods do

Bought this from last deal, good machine.

    • +1

Different types of pod, different type of machine, but your deal is arguably way better

You really need to try coffee from each machine to understand what you like.

I moved from the original Nespresso to Vertuo as I prefer big coffees with milk. Never drink espresso so can't comment. I'd have to use three original pods to get the same amount of coffee

I moved from the original Nespresso to Vertuo

I have Vertuo, I don't like the pod taste.

With Nespresso I mainly drink lungo 110ml.

I have this machine in white. It's an expensive purchase but my wife and I enjoy the coffee and the steamer. Sadly the barcode reader broke and had to be sent for repairs under warranty. Also a slow leak from underneath the machine which I need to get fixed.

Pod coffee allows you to try massive amounts of coffee varieties and flavours without buying a lot each time. The seasonal limited edition pods also keep things interesting.

    • Haven't used pods in a long while but holy… TIL vertuo uses barcodes and that the machine essentially breaks if the reader's broken. Frankly surprised they didn't just go all out on an NFC solution (definitely due to cost) instead, given the reader resides right next to the brewing chamber with steam, potential coffee gunk etc

Was considering this as an upgrade for my parents' creatista pro but after looking at the reviews pointing at leaking and a faulty steamer being common issues, think I'll pass.

      • an upgrade for my parents' creatista pro

That is downgrade, creatista pro is better.

  • These are overly represented in ecycle bins.

Put a request on FB or similar. Someone will give you one.

High speed centrifugal old coffee (as it's pre ground).. is still old coffee.

You’ve been hit by the Pod Squad :(

    Pods lol

Think this is the price I paid for my old Breville BES920.
Not going to poo poo peoples choice of convince over craft.
And I can see why this machine is pricey for a POD machine. They have tried to make it as automated as possible.
But it comes down to flavour and I still have not come across a POD machine that can make a decent espresso. Saying that, everyones taste buds are different.

For anyone interested in why this "expensive pod machines" exists, have a look at this video by James Hoffmann. It's a centrifugal force, spin-extraction machine that's remarkably different from a traditional espresso machine.

Unfortunately you're then locked into digitally-controlled, barcode-scanned pods from a company known for unethical and destructive practices. Great concept though.

    • yeah nestlĂ© are trash, no question
