i found these types of places usually underwhelming, run down and expensive in Australia.

Have these places gotten any better over thevyears?

    • +1

Same very run down, hasn't changed since I was a kid

I just finish an annual pass with the family for them.

If it was up to me I'd never go again..but the kids love the rides I guess.

They're all rip-offs but for memories with your young ones sure.

I probably won't go again till the kids are a bit older (and braver) so they can take the adult rides.

      Movie world.
If all the rides open..it's pretty good. The thing is half of them are closed half the time. There's one that's been closed for 2 years.
But in general you spend most of the time queueing and just wandering around looking at joker try to scare Asian tourists while old blokes try to make a move at Catwoman. Only thing I like is the car show .5/10.

      SeaWorld.
This one's not great too. Dolphins and seals trapped inside doing tricks definitely isn't a place I want to visit. And also the poor polar bears trying to hide from the GC heat during summer is just cruel. The rides are meh. Food is meh and expensive. It's just meh. Dolphin show is just sad. 3/10

      Wet n wild.
Probably my favourite. Kids get to swim and take the water rides while I get to see the missus in her pink bikini. 8/10

      • Hahha that's quite harsh scores but i agree.

After went to universal studios and disneyland a couple of times, they are meh. I know i know its not comparable

        • Universal and Disney are great, but they are in the USA…so there is that…

      Worse over the years.

The worst would be Dreamworld which has shrunk dramatically in the last 15 years. So many attractions demolished and only a hand full new ones.

But the others are also getting worse.

Movie World has lost lots of rides and been replaced with a poorly received Wizard of Oz area. The movie studio tour (at actually made it MOVIE world) is long gone.

Sea World is the same. Monorail gone and a bunch of rides.

No idea about Wet n Wild. Only been a few times in my life and one of which I caught conjunctivitis.

It's just a sucker tax for families.

As others suggest in the comments, they're crap for adults. But kids love them because kids are dumb. 🤷

      • Not dumb, just inexperienced. 😀

I agree with the sentiment though.

  • Yep, got more lethal

Never again last time I sent to one of these places all the good rides were closed for maintenance. They didn't mention anything about this when I purchased the tickets at the gate. They gave me tickets valid for a year after complaining to manager and writing an email.

Pointless since I don't live there and was there on a vacation for 3 days.

i think my brother and his family went there a couple of months ago and mentioned many of the rides the kids wanted to go on, were also closed.

Yeah these places mostly cater to local bogans now who use the place as somewhere to dumb the kids every weekend.

      • Dump or dumb (down)?

          dumbp

For a family of four it might be cheaper to book a room at Sea World Resort with tickets included. From $400/night which covers two days parks admission fee.

    • On the first day, do you need to check in first before they allow you in?

      • +1

I think you can call them a day before asking to email you the passes. We just came in the morning, grabbed our passes and went straight to Sea World which is just next door. Checked in after the park. Next day went to Movie World and Wet'n'Wild as they're next to each other.

We were even staying at the time at Novotel Surfers Paradise, but it worked out better to book a night stay at Sea World Resort and come back to Novotel next day

  • honestly cant understand how people are complaining about the value of the 4 parks yet go and pack out the Royal Melbourne Show every year?

i mean at least the rides and shows are included in these parks you can spend $100 on 4-5 rides and entry into the show and it is 'shit' the rides are basic and there is almost no worth while entertainment on show

i 'do agree' the parks were better 20 or years ago, and im almost sure that is because 'sooner or later' the land owned will be sold off to developers so the 'effort' up keep the parks has dropped off as the value of property in Gold Coast has hit crazy levels

But overall they are still 'good' value i mean f—ken hell if you wanted to take a family of 4 to gold class your probably paying >$150, Legoland easily >$150, any of the major Zoos >$40 per adult etc

People on here need to get a 'grip' on what 'shit actually costs' and the value you get for the money spent.

some of the annual passes for both Villiage road show and Dreamworld have 'themed' nights during Christmas, Halloween etc which are also fairly good value and a nice night out for the family - had a ticket to the Dreamwork trick or treat night with the kids and it was 'actually really good' they had a bunch of riddles the kids had to solve to find where the free candy was at scattered all over the park.

Maybe it is because im from Victoria and everything here is over priced and poor in value these days but i dont think any of the theme park mutliple/annual passes are bad value if you use them a few times - my kids love the day out, also gets us adults out walking/swiming etc

Honestly speaking the only 'value for money' entertainment we still have is Video games and if you churn subscription services like Netflix etc even attending sports events are crazy expensive my kids swimming lessons are like $27 a class for 30mins!
