Looking for Top or Front Loader Washing Machine That Can Handle Bulky Bedding

Our super old top loader Simpson washing machine finally carked it.

I think it was under 5kg barely 4kg.

I'm aware of the NSW government washing machine exchange program I'm just waiting on the low income card claim to finalise in the next few weeks but on the off chance it doesn't get through or they run out I'm looking for alternatives and backups.

Location Sydney NSW.

Update 21 Aug 2025:

Slowly going out of my mind and feel like im gaslighting myself trying to research washing machines some of the big ones like LG 12kg have leak issues after a short period of time.

Found out that Bosch Series 6 is the inferior one compared to Series 8 because of the manufacturing location (China vs Germany not just reduced technology features)

Top Loaders use more water than Front Loaders and thus the weight labels mean different things.

Etc etc blah blah.

I just want a decent washing machine that will last a long time and have the least amount of issues and fit an extra large quilt/blanket/duvet etc and pretty set and forget with no having to hover over to wait for it to finish issues etc.

I feel like I am losing my mind trying to find which one to go with.

I am open to Top or Front at this point I just want to hear what you guys have found to be the best value or least faulty.

Alternatively anti recommend models you have found given you plenty of problems so we can know what to avoid.

I am assuming anything under 8kg won't do for this specific scenario.

Which washing machine do I buy dear god.

8kg Washing Machine Can Be Top or Front Loader

    Yes, it can.

  • These are more like 60kg. You can get models that do more than just wash clothes.

    • I wouldn't mind a Model to wash me 😜

They're not available locally, you'll have to import one yourself.

        • I will start looking

          Thanks JIMBO

@snappy1234: Choose wisely, once it's in the country local laws apply. If you get a temperamental refurb and it has a meltdown it could cost you your house.

@JIMB0: Happened to my ( ex) bro in law

( after he bailed on my crazy sis)

He got a subcontinent model that broke down the day warranty ended.

              ;)

  • Budget?

    • Honestly just looking for the cheapest 8kg to 10kg washing machine.

I guess trying to stay below $700

      • Cheapest 10kg machine would be from Aldi https://www.aldi.com.au/product/stirling-10kg-front-load-was…
Currently for sale. I believe Aldi has a 3 year warranty. No reviews on this model.

Beko have a 8.kg machine for $550 including delivery https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-85kg-front-…

reviews aren't great. Made in China unlike the rest of Beko which is usually Turkey but Beko has a 5 year warranty. You may need to use the warranty from the reviews.

There's always a risk when buying a cheaper washing machine. Personally if it was me and I had a budget of $700, I'll pick one up from Aldi.

Thanks I need delivery so I might use that second link as a reference point.

Not sure how else I could get the ALDI one delivered maybe airtasker or something to hire someone to pick it up and deliver it.

Some good value ones in the Best Value For Money section.

Appreciate it big time thank you.

          This was a huge help.

  • Is there a question you want us to answer or did you want us to just scold you? This is ozbargain so we will scold you regardless but what is the question?

    • To be fair, they did post it in the "Find Me A Bargain" section of the Forum, but I agree it should've been more obvious in the post itself.

    • Just looking for any washing machine deals between 8kg to 10kg sorry it wasn't more obvious.

Can be front or top loader.

Bonus if they can recycle my old busted top loader washing machine.

The NSW Government Washing Machine Exchange Program is over for now so either I wait until they do another one whenever that is or find one myself now.

I deserve all the scolding I will gett for not being specific.

  • I got this for around the same price, and extremely happy with it.

  • Merged from Washing Machine That Can Fit a Fairly Bulky Blanket/Duvet/Quilt and Not Break Down Fast

Which washing machine do I buy dear god.

    • How often are you washing these bulky items?

      • +2

Better to buy a new washing machine and spend $1500 than spend $5 at the laundromat once in a blue moon.

        • I was thinking just send it to the dry cleaners but agree, avoid the local laundromat.

        • Does laundromat have germs

      • Maybe like every two months at least once a season.

Depends on when they start getting funky might wash sooner.

Last washing machine was destroying them bit by bit so was a deterrent to washing them more regularly.

    • I wash a king size blanket once every couple of months in my 8kg Bosch

      • Yeah I'm leaning towards Bosch can't decide series 6 or 8.

LG is the other contender but honestly I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying leakage and other malfunctions for the LG washing machines.

Same with Fisher and Paykel some bad reviews.

    • They have washing machines in the twilight zone 🤔

    • Our Miele front loader washes our Doona and blankets but when we do the underlay we soak it in the bath with some wool mix. Drain out the water and turn it over a few times to get rid of trapped water. Then dry it outside on the balcony. We do our bedding when we get hot days in Summer. Just keep fluffing the doona out to avoid clumping. We did our old underlay at the laundromat and the filling bunched up during the spin cycle.
