  • Are these the new US of A variant?

    • the usa beef deal means the hormels canned chilli in cole’s and woolies might change to back to beef instead of the current pork, the pork canned chilli doesn’t taste as good as the beef one …. considering the change rate i can’t see us beef being cheaper than au beef.

@brotherfranciz: Two cows are standing in a paddock in South Carolina, one asks the other, "Gee…I keep hearing about this mad cow disease, are you worried about it"? The other cow answers, "I'm not a cow, I'm a rabbit!".

Don't know who gave you - grade, but your comment gets a + from me.

What cut of meat is this?

    • What cut of beef is beef cheeks?

Beef cheeks are a cut from the facial area of the animal, around the muscle the cow uses to chew. There is a lot of sinews when these cuts first make it to the butcher shop where they trim the cuts down for a cleaner looking cut.

They are delicious and one of the best slow cooked/braised cuts

        • +3

Don't knock it until you've tried it, they're amazing in stews and curries.

Never get the untrimmed ones though, it's a real pain to trim them and if you stuff it up the result is terrible.

You never had it, its the best part. Very soft and fatty.

Cooked right in pressure cooker or slow cooked it's great

@Turd: If it's so good then how come I've never seen it served in a restaurant?

@MrZ: We were using then every second week or on specials, and in the end, we had some sous vide beef left, so we threw together and made some Guinness pies. Trust me, you'd be licking your fingers after one of those 😂

              @MrZ: Because McDonald's isn't actually a restaurant?

            • +2

@MrZ: I had them at Mr Collins, a fine dining place in the blue mountains recently. Superb taste, really flavoursome and melt in your mouth.
              Not a cheap dinner tho.

            • @MrZ: Better Italian restaurants sometimes have them.

Not everywhere has them since they require a long time for it to gelatinze

I personally smoke then finish in a braising liquid and slice (amazing for tacos), or put it in a slow cooker to make ragout

            • @MrZ: I’ve seen it plenty. If you haven’t tried it, it’s foolish to dismiss it. They are delicious.
