You can always use an external SSD, and boot the entire OS from that if you prefer…
The only thing that won't work in that scenario, is Apple Intelligence.
Painful if you are mainly using the computer on the go, different story if it was docked.
Leverage Thunderbolt 4 by getting the right cable and portable drive and you're good.
Air is amazing on the go, but you probably need a matchbook pro if you are doing more intensive stuff and need more memory. 256gb is more then enough
@Hugh G Rection: maybe for you. this whole trend of just buy a laptop with a 2010 amount of storage and then have an external drive dangling off it is a lame one.
The only thing that won't work in that scenario, is Apple Intelligence.
Bonus!!
Why would you want to boot the os from an external rather than using an external only for storage. I actually can't see a use case for this
Depends on the staff. For one, they don't list all price matching websites. The first comment on your post even mentions how inconsistent they are.
As always, YMMV. But their policy was recently updated "What is excluded from the Price Beat Guarantee? Paid membership-based pricing"
https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…
@Ni l s: Yes, I know this. I guess they were still price matching for awhile and that maybe nowadays all staff have been categorically banned from price beating Costco. Sad times indeed.
Yep. I just called them to check and they said the policy has been updated. I want to use my amex to pay… any idea if JB will price match?
They do but not sure about price beat Also it depends on staff. I literally had a staff/branch straight out say "we don't price match" only to be get told by a different staff "sure" like wtf
@marshmall0w2: you must not have done it recently after the update, i also got turned down, and i'm handsome.
@marshmall0w2: it’s because costco has membership fees, so they factor is it’s not a like for like price match that anybody can just walk into costco and buy, need to pay $65 if not already a member, that’s why they don’t price match.
fyi guys Cyberpunk 2077 is native in Mac OS now you can run both the steam and mac app store versions. they both work surprising well on m4 chips.
Beats AOC by $50. If Officeworks price beats 5% and using Celebrations, then $1440 * 0.95 * 0.90 = $1232
Could you pls share where is celebrations card 10% off ?cannot see anywhere in OZB or gcdb/freepoints
Coles has the 10% off celebrations gift card from time to time
Ok ! I thought there is current deal somewhere
Wasn’t the 16GB version on sale a few weeks ago for the same price?
M4 Airs start at 16GB. I assume you misread the GPU cores as RAM?
Lo that would be correct
Maybe you meant 24GB M3?
Got this a few days ago with the 20x points deal.. after tolerating 256gb in m1 for the past 4 years, im not sure if im slightly regretting getting another 256gb device..
What’s wrong with M1 ?
the point is the storage not the M1
This one doesn't have the storage bandwidth issues of older models though. The M2 had half the storage bandwidth due to having only a single memory chip.
get external storage for rarely used stuff, and also use external to backup the 256 ssd, with the cost of 1 tb nvme ssd and external enclosures now it’s easy to get extra storage, 10 gb enclosure from ugreen was $26 on amazon, hassle is lots of usb c charge cable deals, not many for usb c data so don’t mixup or loose the enclosure cable.
256 no thanks
One of those devices that Apple sells as price anchor. A non-upgradable 256GB SSD will render this laptop unusable for anything but the most basic workloads. Anything involving photos, videos or gaming will fill this SSD in no time. Less than 1TB storage is simply too little in 2025.
nope, this is fine for MacBook air. for what you're talking about, you want a MacBook pro.
It is incredibly silly to have to go up one product line just for a bit of storage. The Air is more than powerful enough for all of that.
Which is the point Maxbon makes: 256GB is barely enough even for the basic stuff in 2025.
get a 1 tb nvme and put into thunderbolt or 20gbit enclosure, for under $150 you are ready to go, and for another $100 maybe get 2 tb instead of 1 tb, the days of slow external storage are gone. for me it’s more display size, 13” vs 15”,
Any deals on the big one?
If you are a heavy multitasker with tons of apps running at once, you may want to go for 24GB RAM.
Or if you're my kids that never ever close a single browser tab.
That is not going to be a problem because almost all browsers have some sort of memory saving sleep feature for inactive tabs.
Well I never knew that.
Does that mean I'm be been nagging them for no good reason?
I managed to get it price beat by Officeworks but not Costco. They wouldn’t budge
Had to find another website, luckily my deal emporium electronics had it for $1499. Office works price beat to $1424. Happy with that price
256GB is a bit low, but awesome price if price matching with officeworks
