Is It Worth Getting AppleCare+ for The MacBook Air in Adelaide?

Is AppleCare+ worth it in Adelaide it cost $300 for 3 years?

Because I saw bad reviews about the Apple Store in Adelaide.

I’ve never bought AppleCare+ for any of my Apple products before, but I just got the MacBook Air M4 ($2000)

My last laptop was damaged by mala tang broth (acidic), so I’m a bit worried.

I mainly use my MacBook for AAA gaming like Cyberpunk and GTA for more than 5 hours, and for watching movies. I’m also a student, but I rarely take the laptop out of the house.

After I graduate, I’ll bring the laptop to the mining site.
My iPhone screen cracked before due to dust and gravel at the mine.

Would AppleCare+ still be a good investment in my case?

  • I have mine under my contents insurance. Factoring in extra premiums and excess it works out to be cheaper. If I was an Apple noob or incapable of feeling things out myself or Googling answers, I might want AppleCare+ for the 24/7 tech support though.

it works out to be cheaper

Until you make a claim and your insurance premium goes up…

      • +1

100% whatever you get back in insurance is going to be what you pay extra in premiums.

I dropped my camera and CBA were no issues with getting it fixed but over 3 years my premiums went up by the exact amount it cost for the repair.

        • +3

Dang, my premiums went up by the same amount over the last three years, about the cost of a camera. Why did you drop your camera bro, you're costing us all a fortune!?

Is It Worth Getting AppleCare+ for The MacBook Air in Adelaide?

Yes, you never know when you may spill malatang on it…

    • +3

However being in Adelaide, a Pie Floater spill would be considered a foreseeable event.

  • +12

    "worth it in Adelaide?" wot.

    • +2

Because obviously you’re less likely to break your screen because you live in Adelaide

      • +5

        Being not from convict stock.

        • Does it matter if convict or not, isn't Adelaide the Murder capital of Australia?

  • Is AppleCare+ worth it in Adelaide?

Yes, only in Adelaide though. People in other cities aren't so clumsy so they don't need it… hyuk hyuk hyuk :D

If you were in Melbourne or Perth, I’d say no, but you are in Adelaide so I’d suggest you consider it

    • +1

      Melbourne no
      Perth no
      Adelaide Maybe
      Broken Hill Definitely yes

I mainly use my MacBook for AAA gaming

Curious, what type of games do you play?

    • -1

It's the first step in getting to XXX gaming.

      • XXXX gaming in Brisbane.

    • cyberpunk lol

    Adelaide? Yes.

    Anywhere else? No.

  • How much does applecare +cost, how long does it cover the product for and what is the excess of making a claim?

How frequently do you accidentally break laptops?

I’d only get it if you are accident prone. For instance, it would be worthwhile if the likelihood of a claim is within a period whereby the cost of Applecare + excess is less than the depreciated value of the laptop.

    • AppleCare+ for my MacBook Air costs about $300 for 3 years, but I forgot to ask about the excess fees for making a claim.

I’ve only changed laptops twice since 2014.
The first one lasted 9 years, and I only replaced it because it was old — it cost me just $800 at the time.
The second one lasted 4 years, but I had to replace it after it got hit by mala hotpot broth 😅. That one was around $1,000.

      • I would rate your probability of accidental breakage as very low and i don’t think AppleCare+ is worthwhile in your scenario.

A comparable insurance product for your last laptop would have been useless as the accident occurred in the fourth year. Similarly, the laptop before lasted 8 years without issue. Backwards (hypothetical) testing would show that the insurer would have profited from your policies…

It’s impossible to predict the future of course.

Let us know what you decide.

  • Yes, very worthwhile as its an insurance policy (without the raise in yearly costs) for an item where every single issue is going to cost you big bux because its always the motherboard that needs to be replaced.

    What a bizarre post.

I asked AI to jazz it up a bit with a poem…

In Adelaide’s heat where the sun burns bright,
      I bought a MacBook—sleek, pure white.
Two thousand dollars, light as air,
      Now the question looms: AppleCare?

I never paid the premium fee,
For phones, for pads, no warranty.
But broth once spilled its acid doom,
And claimed my old laptop’s silver tomb.

Now I game through pixel haze,
      Cyberpunk nights, Grand Theft days.
Five hours straight, the fans will roar,
      While Netflix whispers tales galore.

A student yet, I barely roam,
This shiny tech stays safe at home.
But soon I’ll trade my books and light
      For dust and gravel—mining site.

My iPhone cracked beneath the grind,
Grains of fate not being kind.
So I weigh this three-year shield,
      For $300—is value revealed?

A gamble, yes, but peace of mind,
For Apple’s aid when troubles find.
No magic spell or future clear,
Just “maybe” softened year to year.

      • Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

It was rough as guts and broke my iPhone and Macbook Air
        AppleCare+, AppleCare+. Wherefore art though AppleCare+?
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
        Shall be lifted—nevermore!

        Take that, AI slop.

  • I’ve never bought AppleCare for any of my apple products. I’m at my 4th MacBook and 5th iPhone. A couple of iPads, watch and tvs. So far I have not had a claimable issue within the AppleCare period. 100% not worth it for me. Even if I broke my current MacBook I suspect I’ve already saved enough by not buying AppleCare that I’ll come out in front. Obviously if you are careless and constantly breaking stuff then the calculus is different.

  • in Adelaide

Nah, not worth it in Adelaide

    • Because I saw bad reviews about the Apple Store in Adelaide

  • In general applescare is not worth it unless you are a trasher, for a iMac yes as it gives in home repairs, used it for a new screen once.

Applecare is great for iphones for express replacement which costs nothing if it is warrantiable (ie; not damaged). A nice trick is to call and complain about this, that or the other (for example phone is slow, camera is blurry etc) they will just ship you a new one. Hence a refreshed phone a couple times a year at no cost.

    • how about for macbook?

      • Macbook they require you to send it in, unfortunately.
