  • V tempted. But reviews mixed.
Wonder how the brightness is in use?

What do people use these portable monitors for?

    • +11

      Portability.

      • +1

like to connect to a laptop? for dual screen?

        • I believe so.

        • Extend or duplicate your laptop monitor (or even smartphone, depending on USB-C specs)

    • +4

I have one set up next to my main screen for reading and replying to messages whilst I'm doing something with the main monitor and use it as my secondary. Others might use a portable monitor as it's intended, for a portable sff set up or even for a larger screen for hand held devices.

      • +2

I also install mine vertically to work on long word documents, or as a second screen to take notes when I'm on a teams call sharing my main screen

    • +3

      Steam deck monitor

I work from one of those co-working offices where you don't have an assigned desk and there is nothing at the desk apart from a power outlet. I bring a portable monitor in with my laptop so I have a 2nd monitor to work off (essential these days).

I have 2 portable monitors, and one lesson I have learnt is that brightness and display sharpness is very important. Most recently, I bought:
      https://metrocom.com.au/product/asus-zenscreen-mq16ahe-15-6i…
(I am not affiliated but they were great to deal with).

Considerably more expensive, but really nice on your eyes. As an OLED screen, the brightness is fantastic.

Be careful with these cheap screens as my other one is quite dim and display sharpness is poor (almost fuzzy).

      • +1

this is definitely the use case.
I travel a bit for work, and other reasons, and when travelling, I'm commonly working in these sorts of places, and I'm desperate for a second screen.

I'm thinking about getting one, but from looking and talking to others, I realise that I have to fork out for OLED.

        • Thought I'll give this one a try. 16:10 screen is compelling as I find the additional height of the screen compared to 16:9 better, matching with the MacBook.

Hopefully not too dim or lack of contrast.

      • Considerably more expensive, but really nice on your eyes. As an OLED screen, the brightness is fantastic.

After using an expensive OLED portable, I don't feel like going back to an IPS portable monitor anymore (and I had a portable Asus IPS monitor before)

    • Main workspace, secondary monitors using single USB-C cable.

No extra power or HDMI cable requirements.

Some still have VESA or can use tablet stands.

I work in sport so end up working from the side of a ground with no desk set up, and from hotel rooms. Game changer for me, for under $100 it increases productivity and reduces frustration considerably. I paid $99 for a similar one a couple of weeks ago to replace my one that damaged when I left it on the side of a table and it got windy

    • Additional screen to open up more phub windows.

      • Only get 4 months worth before the December Armageddon

    • watching lecture on one screen, taking notes on the other when away from home eg library

    • Upgrade car stereo in vl Berlina

    • I've been thinking of one to dock to a Steam deck, kb and mouse and Linux desktop away.

    • When you're working on holidays/offsite, and need a 2nd screen.

    • to connect to my Astrophotography computer out in the field. Sometimes the machine gives issues that prevent RDP from working. Easier to log in directly.

    • WFH when I can’t be bothered working in my actual study/office.

    • Kids playing Nintendo Switch on road-trips - but on a bigger screen?

      I'm guessing… hoping.

    • For me, working while traveling for conferences or while on holiday. I have a 15" XPS, with a 16" portable monitor, MX Master and Bluetooth headphones. I can pretty much do my job anywhere.

Nice deal - congrats on popping your posting cherry after a decade! 16:10 ratios are da bomb…

I wanted to wait for it to mean something to me. HTNZIR makes me emotional. It reads like the sound I make when I try to lift something heavy. Like 6-7kgs.

      • +3

        Wise man indeed.

I was terrified for my first post. I was nervous, sweaty, could barely grip my mouse between my shaking hands. Next thing you know, there’s blood on the sheets, a sleepy tendency was sweeping over me and the most glorious thirty seconds of my life had passed…

        Welcome aboard, tradesman!

I wanted to wait for it to mean something to me

        Everyone remembers their first time.

  • This one any better? https://amzn.asia/d/92i7yI2

Has good ratings from a lot more reviews.

More expensive at $119.99, but 60% off (presumably silly) RRP…

Great price, but I had already bought the ARZOPA 2.5K Portable Monitor 16" 2560x1600 HDR Kickstand Display, 500nits for $109.99. The brightness is excellent. With this listing though, I couldn't find any mention of the nits anywhere

    • +1

I really wanted that one, but Amazon cancelled my order. They then said would give me a refund of the price difference once I got it delivered, but now they're giving me nothing. So I'll have to return the monitor.

I wish I was one of the lucky ones who's monitor didn't get cancelled

      • Same situation, they said they'd refund the difference. Contacted support, they said their only options were to refund the difference as a gift card. Pressed them on it as it was implied it would be a direct refund, managed to get the difference as a gift card and a $30 'promotional certificate' on top. Maybe worth trying different support agents.

        • I've tried, but they're not even giving me a giftcard.

          • @Badger2066: Oh my order did get cancelled, I ordered both 144hz and the 2k one as well, but both got cancelled, they told me to reorder first, once recieved they will refund the difference. Which they did

    • Did it go that low? Awesome. CamelX3 doesn’t show it going below $199. I’d certainly bite at $109 if it returns!

      • +1

It was probably a price error.

$90 discount from the RRP of $299. It was discount to $199 and the $90 discount was available.

Like others, my order was cancelled. Bought again for $199 and contacted support to get $90 gift card refund.

      • +1

A lot of us had our orders cancelled, so you didn't miss out really

    • Well done, I paid $199 for the 2.5k and although double what you paid, have not regretted it.

  • Thanks, been looking for one of these for remote work, at 80 bucks worth a go.

  • We've detected unusual activity and can't create an account.

Ah… HTNZIR …. can I buy another couple of vowels please Larry?

    • Yeah lol how do you pronounce that?

      • +1

It's pronounced HTNZIR…. rhymes with Manhattan…. Edit: Oops! I meant orange.

  • +1

Does it come with a built in stand?

    • Yes. In listing states has a stand

  • Is there any bigger one that can be powered by usb c?

  • +1

I'm looking for a touchscreen one of these.. Any suggestions?

  • Can these be powered via usb adapter and run a Chromecast via hdmi ?

    • Yes. Power in via USB-C.
Video in via HDMI connected to Chromecast
Have no experience with this particular one, but on these portable monitors sound usually pretty average so be aware of that.

  • got one, thanks OP. handy for working while travelling, i really struggle with just the laptop screen when my usual desktop has two monitors.

  • +1

Link puts me through to a different screen 1920 X 1080?

    • Sold out, showing the other option that is still available.

Pics of the VL please. It better be the white two tone with the grey and have original humcaps

Update on this deal - delivered yesterday.

Thoughts after 1 day - Excellent buy.

Very light and bit plasticky, with the single pull out plastic piece at the back which serves as stand bending slightly when being pulled out and appearing at risk of snapping.
However, seems to serve the job of standing the monitor up.

The screen quality is very good for the price. Using it next to a MacBook Pro screen it is perfectly acceptable, not as good obviously but not so bad that you have to squint and not enjoy using it.
After initial plug in via USB-C, changed the MacOS resolution to 1920x1200 from its lower resolution 960x600 default, arranged the displays as I like it and that was all the adjustment required.

Brightness and contrast excellent. Colours OK. As good as many premium non-OLED laptop screens.

Goes to sleep as expected when computer shuts down and wakes up again without issues.
Two thumbs up - it just works!
