Protection for IKEA Malm Dressers

Hello

I have recently purchased some Malm chest of drawers etc from IKEA for the kids bedrooms. I am just wondering if there is someway of protecting the top from scratches and damage. I was half thinking of covering the top with the clear plastic (pvc?) table cloths that spotlight do (cut to size) but they don’t seem to have very good reviews. IKEA seem to do some protective tops but not in the size I want for Malm. I’m thinking glass would be too expensive.

Does anyone have any ideas or shall I not bother ? It’s not like they were very expensive. I’ve spent far too long googling this and thought I would come here and ask.

Thanks in advance.

It's literally IKEA furniture, just use it - it's not designed to last for a long time anyway.

If it's looking a bit tired after a few years, just roll some water-based enamel paint on it (the sort you use for painting trim in your house) and it'll look even better than new.

    • Yeah painting will magically make the scratches look invisible

  • Personally wouldn’t bother, but 2mm acrylic panel will do the job.
