Apple MacBook Air M3 13": 8GB/256GB $1094, 8GB/512GB $1294 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ OnePass/ C&C) @ Officeworks

330

After clearing the M3 Max/Pro/Pleb Macbook Pros, Officeworks seems to clear the rest of the M3 Air line-ups too. ATL I guess for M3 MBA.

Apple MacBook Air M3 13":

8GB/256GB $1094, 8GB/512GB $1294

Apple MacBook Air M3 15":

8GB/256GB $1,394, 16GB/256GB $1494

I don't think there is a good Macbook Air M3 13" deal with 512GB of storage, But they seem to have M2:

Apple MacBook Air M2 13":
8GB/512GB $1194

But at this price, might as well as buy from Apple certified refurbished (99.99% brand new):

Apple MacBook Air M3 13":

16GB/256GB $1279

Imo if a laptop has only 8gb of ram and isn't upgradeable it should be priced below $900. Paying $1,000+ for 8gb is insane.

    • i still run an intel macbook air with 8gb, runs office 2021 fine and other apps like safari etc. Have 32gb on my windows PC, doesn’t even hit 8gb with office 2021 and visio open, but i also don’t use chrome which is very ram hungry once you open lots of tabs. For me the macbook air is more the m3 vs m4 model in this deal, and i tend to keep laptops for 5 yrs +

Without a doubt, 8GB is usable on Mac, and it has excellent RAM management for light to moderate tasks.

But the problem lies in doing anything beyond Safari and/or Office, or simply running more than a few apps at a time. For power users who prefer running a lot of QOL apps or those with memory-intensive setups (e.g., SPSS Statistics, Final Cut, some games or multiple monitor configurations with numerous tabs), the 8GB limit (though mac uses vRam as well) can be particularly noticeable. There is a reason that Apple stopped selling Macs with 8GB of RAM altogether, and support for it will likely be dropped earlier than that of 16GB models.

In summary, this is great if you are only using a MacBook for light to moderate tasks. Also, a good option for students. Otherwise, I would spend roughly $370 more on an Apple AOC for an M4 MacBook Air.

Sure, spec for spec it seems like this should be $900, but try using $900 laptops. They offer far worse experience compared to the Mac.

        • “Far worse experience” really depends on what laptop you get and what your OS preference is. Obviously if you compare to a big fat budget gaming laptop, that’s not a good comparison.

$900 “normal” laptops of today, while not as good as the macbook, have pretty good battery life and on-battery performance, while having more RAM and storage which is a nice QOL even for light users.

Google chrome uses more than 8gb of ram with the number of tabs I have open on my Mac 😅

        • +1

Yep, starts to rely on swap quite a bit even with 16gb of RAM.

        • V8 allocates allot of memory for each javascript process.

Safari is a bit lighter on memory.

Its not even just 8gb though, its 8gb shared memory on a 1k+ laptop thats really bad. Android phones at half that price range have more ram.

    • I never had an issue with M1 Macbook Air for work (~ 2 years ago). 8Gb. Running Oracle SQL Developer, VS Code, various other sw. Chrome was probably the worst offender, had to keep an eye on total tab count. Unless you're running graphics programs or doing video editing I think 8Gb on Apple Silicon architecture is sufficient.

  • Is this deal live yet? Or over already

        Schrödinger's Macbook.

They also have the 16gb ram model for similar price to the refurb.

But Apple AOC M4 base line model is only $1549? An extra $255? No brainer to me not to get the M4 instead…

      • +1

More like 1487, but yes the base M4 for that price is probably the best value for money.

        • I don't agree. For those after a compact laptop (13" Air), most don't need lots of processing power, the M2 with 16GB will last for a long, long time.
I say $1294 for the one noted above is the sweet spot.

@FXx: Yep $1249 for 16gb ram m3 is the winner here for value.

            • @Churna: Sorry, yes, M3 (not M2).

      • Interesting they shown Macbook Air M3 8 core GPU 8 GB RAM vs M4 8 core GPU 16 GB RAM. They are both around 30FPS, with M4 being 1.5FPS faster. I guess after thermal throttling, there isn't much difference since they are both on 3nm.

Nothing offends a dork today more than on-sale 8GB computers, Teslas perhaps?

use 8gb ram m3 pro every day, even (don't shoot me) play Dota 2 on it without any issues. Its fine.

      • M3 pro min is 18GB? Or do you mean M3 Macbook pro…

        • +1

Correct, I mean the Macbook pro

  • Without a comment from @marshmall0w2 i have no idea if this is e-waste or whether I should wait for an $800 4060…

8GB RAM on a laptop in late-2025 that's non upgradable for over $1k. Damn that's rough.

    • It does not matter, what is the OS it is running and what the user is going to do with this laptop?

  • Currently, the 8GB capacity cannot be upgraded.
