  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/915845 - Bought this couple weeks back and thats W/ LTE.

Might be better off waiting until LTE goes on sale again.

    • I'd tend to agree on price-value. Though I'd point out the Bluetooth version has reportedly longer life and reliability (not sure how this works) and that people reported not needing the LTE. Though it's very useful for sports since you wouldn't be necessarily with your phone

    • What can you do with the LTE besides sms and calls ?

      • It could function as a standalone device without relaying on phone, useful for kids (paired with a long expiry esim eg kogan), that's the setup we have for our kids at school as they are not ready to have phones yet

With Kogan? I thought watch sims were limited to Telstra/Optus/Voda, and that they force you to pay a $10 companion device fee on top of monthly plans?

          • @crentist: I think there are some smart watches designed for kids where you can put in a proper phone eSIM/SIM rather than a companion eSIM that you need for the Galaxy Watch, Apple Watch, etc.

Telstra expanded companion eSIM support to MVNOs about a year ago. It's up to the MVNOs whether they provide it as a service or not: (Woolies) Everyday Mobile and More Telecom are two that do off the top of my head.

  • My mum wants a fitness watch (68yo) to track steps and heart rate as she recovers from various illnesses. $350 is a bit much and way more than she needs
    Does anyone have any recommendations?

Xiaomi not bad, I love my Samsung fit 3… When on sale, would 100% buy again.

Due to the Samsung health app that synchronises all my data (I have smart scales that integrate, I punch in my blood sugar and pressure) it keeps tabs of heart rate, steps ECT.
And it keeps a history of it all.

If she is social and wants to compare against friends, Fitbit.
