Couldn’t find any stock near me and have tried other postcodes as well. Could be an online only item

Enjoy!

I got these during the last amazon sale for $235, very happy with them. Having a dongle stored in the earcup is really useful and the multipoint works well. All the controls are either physical buttons or knobs so no issue with weird gestures or unreliable tapping. I use the dongle with my switch 2 or Lenovo legion go s to have low latency wireless audio.

Also use them in the office and on the train to take calls in noisy environments and have had no complaints on the other end around microphone quality. They amplify your own voice back into the headphones really well so you don't end up yelling while on calls.

Adaptive Noise cancelling is a superior technology to active. It's active noise cancellation that scales to the environment. This particular implementation allows you to select the amount of background noise that it allows through, so you can choose to block out all noise or stay aware of your surroundings as you wish.

This is a BETTER type of noise cancellation, not worse.

      • +15

Got it. Wasn't aware of that. I always thought adaptive was inferior - IGNORE my comment

      • Every leading noise cancelling headset on the market has offered this for years.

    • They're active, they just auto adjust to your environment

  • +1

    Thanks BG, much appreciated.

  • Can you turn off noise cancelling?

    • Yes, by default the button toggles between anc and ambient aware but you can go into the app and allow the button to also turn it off completely

      • Thank you. Can you turn it off by default? Or you need the app each time?

        • explanatory video here - https://youtu.be/VvIqrjuBXmA - turn on subs
seems to be that adaptive NC is on by default and has to be turned off each time which can be a PITA
that said, really good at suppressing wind noise

Why this has an USB-C dongle?
All our devices have BT built-in.

    • +7

I don't own this pair, but potentially lower latency and better range would be the benefits compared to BT.

      • +2

Less compression too, bluetooth they have no control over what the compression is like, their own dongle they can control it.

    • +3

Value added, it's good for gaming

There are some earbuds with dongles too

Plugs into switch or steamdecks and windows handhelds

    • 2.4ghz dongle provides lower latency and higher bitrate. It's not just optimal, but arguably essential, for PCs when it comes to video consumption and gaming.

    • +1

Actually a very underrated feature I'd really like on my bt headphones

    • For higher-quality audio, for reduced latency, or for use with devices that do not have BT (I still use a laptop that does not have BT).

Also, BT can have issues in a high-noise environment. I do not like using BT for headphones connected to my PC because every time I would pick up my iPad or mobile phone, the headphones would switch over to that device.

    • Also so you don't have to pair the headphones with every device you want to use them with, you just plug in the dongle instead, and you're good to go

  • +2

I'm going to grab a pair later today. Also, these headphones look pretty good.

  • Spec sheets and the user manual seem to be pretty vague about BT codec support, but it seems to support LDAC (and SBC of course) at the least. A shame there's no AptX Adaptive and presumably no LC3 either, but hopefully the dongle option is good enough in quality and latency.

    • LDAC for Bluetooth, dongle provides LC3Plus.

  • +1

I also got a pair in the last Amazon sale. Use the dongle for my work computer and PS5 and then bluetooth with my Phone. Works great. Noise cancelling is ok. Very good value at this price point.

Nothing wrong with my Bose qc35 ii but I couldn't resist this deal. Thanks.

  • Got a pair to replace my worn out beats studio 3s! How would the noise cancellation compare like for a flight?

some reviews: https://youtu.be/5Me7_b3L8u4 (mostly good, possible weird things with firmware, needs eq'ing to bring down sibilance, "passable ANC")
not a full test but whatshifi - https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/hands-on-akg-n9-hybrid-wire… - (has spatial audio, 100 hours battery without ANC)

general praise for multiple connectivity plus mic quality, especially with dongle, great sound quality
so so ANC - good for low frequencies
criticisms were in comparison with bose 700 and sony 5 as initially priced at that level
amazon - https://amzn.asia/d/fOomoZI - very good for gaming, issues with dropouts

    head-fi thread here - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/akg-n9-hybrid.974456/

    • First review from Head-Fi thread has the perfect EQ (also shown here).

Not noticed any distortion issues but the measurements were taken at something like 90 dB, and there's been a firmware update since.

    • Found another review here:
      https://www.stuff.tv/review/akg-n9-hybrid-review/

Great sounding over-ears with a clever hidden dongle that’s almost perfect for frequent flyers. The AKG N9 Hybrid won’t be your first choice if you largely listen through a single device, though.

      Pros
      High-grade audio and noise cancelling
Built-in USB-C dongle fantastic for travel
      Phenomenal battery life

      Cons
Not quite an ANC class leader
Overly sensitive wear detection with long reconnect delay
Some codecs lock you out of advanced audio features

I hate to say this as I grew up reading their magazine which I treat as a bible for the many hifi systems I built, but I now take WhatHifi with a grain of salt - they seem to find something good to say about everything and very little bad. Almost everything they test earns a "Recommended" at some point. Probably don't want to upset any of the companies that supply them with free goods for assessment and other perks.

      • Yeah WhatHifi is an absolute waste of time.

  • Any useful integrations with Samsung mobile? Given that akg is owned by them

  • +1

Thanks! Bought the white one for the missus and black for me. Seems that for this price they should be great.

Been looking for a new pair of ANC headphones, cheers!

  • So tempted. But can’t justify when my Sony 1000x just won’t die

    • Same here. Still rocking my XM3 for gaming

I guess it's time to replace my AKG N700 I got years ago from this deal

  • +1

Thanks OP. Another pair of headphones..lol
Still the Dyson zones didn't quite replace my qc35 ii (which only "retired" due to being left on the train)

Haven’t bought headphones since Prime Day. Had to scratch the itch. Thanks OP.

  • AKG N9 Noise cancelling

Sounds like a Russian weapon famous in Goldeneye 64

  • Does the dongle work on an iPhone?

    • With a USB-C port? Should do. Just be mindful it may not sit correctly in the port if your case is particularly raised around the port.

These will still sound great with AAC due to the driver tech involved.

  • 29 days after i bought the Momentum 4 and had second thoughts when I read about these.
Haven't opened the M4s yet, could still return them tomorrow - but can I try these first?

    EDIT:
"Sorry, there is no stock within 200km of your store."
Well I guess that answers my question.

PS: I already have three pairs of BT headphones from the past year (including Audio-Technica) and one pair of wireless (although now 15 years old and used for watching telly) so I don't really want both the M4s and these.

    • +1

Grabbed these purely for the 2.4ghz dongle. Came from the Momentum 4's. I was worried it could be a downgrade for sound quality, but if anything they sound better. Hard enough to tell that I figure it doesn't matter. One thing I do actually notice is the build quality. Feels a lot nicer with the metal headband. Ear pads feel nicer too…? Though that could just be the couple years of use the Momentum 4s had.

Thanks for the info Khoo017. I'm going to have a real dilema this afternoon (I had been planning on sitting back and testing my M4s).
I have a bit of hearing loss, particularly in vocal areas, which has been the problem with my ATs as they are tuned warm, so sound a bit muffled and adding volume makes them a bit boomy to me - but everythig else about them is really great (battery life, connectivity, comfort, build quality and noise cancelling (which is the least of my concerns)). Well, except their looks, but at least that means no-one is going to mugging me for them!
I have tested M4s in-store, and they sound pretty good (work better for me than the ATs) but I still struggle with some parts of music and vocals - I tried out the new app but still couldn't bring those parts out enough - the five band graphic EQ has a max boost of +6dB (yes, I know that's doubles the SPL but I guess my loss at those frequencies is greater).
Sorry, I'm just typing out my ongoing thought process.

Ah well its not a Power Bank, so have a reason to buy :) thanks OP

  • Does anyone know how they go with gaming on a PS5 & XSX?

Does the 3D work well and how is the mic?

Comparing against say SteelSeries Nova 5X
