These aren't very nice to type on, but they're decent for TV use. Worked fine for PS5.

  • +4

Can't believe these still cost so much, but they are damn decent.

    • +6

$49 when I bought my first one in 2013 lol. They must have made squillions of dollars on these over the decades

      • +2

That's $65 in today's dollar. So this is cheaper by 30% (for a 12 year old product) :P

      • Still have mine from 2014, hasn't missed a beat. Paid somewhere in the $40's from memory.

  • I really don't see the value or appeal in this keyboard unless it's for TV use. I'd still preferer the MX Keys Mini over this for $20 more.

    • Would you show me where to get mx keys mini for 70 bucks? I have been eyeing one for a while.

    • +1

MX keys mini doesn't have the trackpad, not really comparable

      • +1

This does and it's cheaper https://amzn.asia/d/1auiMeE Rapoo E900T in Black or White for $33.99 on Amazon.

        • +1

Rapoo make/ starting to make decent quality peripherals, great value for the money.

        • Look at the size of the enter key on that one.

One review mentions it being a problem, and I can imagine it would hinder usability.

As a geologist I use these daily, paired with a Panasonic Toughpad logging core and chips on a mine site in Central Queensland. They are very reliable and last ages even getting covered in light rain or mud. I am unaware of anything similar that could be used for the same task.

    • People use them for racing sim set-ups too

    • I mean yeah, its clearly a TV/big screen/roaming keyboard.

Why else would you want a trackpad on a keyboard, especially any trackpad that isn't an Apple one.

Another slightly niche use is if you ever have to physically (not ssh) log into a server than has a GUI. The trackpad comes in handy.

      • Yep perfect for servers and small spaces. Never had one die and they come with the Unifying dongle which can be useful

It works for travel as well i guess

  • +1

I've been using this for my home lab since 2016. totally worth it

    • You would only get it for the touch pad. It's not a nice keyboard, but it's a very functional combo device for when you don't have a desk. The difference in typing feel between the K580 and the K400 is night and day. K400 feels like a cheap dome keyboard from 2010 and the K580 feels much closer to the MX Mini.

  • Have this for my TV and HTPC…. works great. Good price too.

  • I use one of these for VR and it's handy.

  • These are the perfect media centre keyboard but they do like a line of sight to the device, tinted glass can interup the beam. Saying that, they are very robust and the track pad is responsive.

    • +3

      They're RF not IR

Have the ancient K400r and lost the dongle. That one seemed to be not compatiable with any of the following receivers, tried them all without success.

    • +2

they pair with a "unifyer" dongle so all hope is not lost

      • I have a lot of trouble pairing these keyboards with various unifying receivers. I have no idea why

I have 2 of the keyboards and both have issues

  • I've had mine for years also but the battery cover is loose. Wondering if anyone has the same experience

    • +1

negative, tight as a fish's arse mine is.

  • Still using my Microsoft media center keyboard.

  • Are these backlit?

  • +2

RIP K830. Easily the best keyboard for lounge/tv use. Mine is still going strong since 2014. Rechargable battery still lasts weeks.

I even have a backup in case this ever dies.

Huge miss by Logitech, it's literally so good that it was discontinued, likely due to not enough replacements being purchased.

    • There's literally petitions for Logitech to bring it back and Logitech actually responds to them telling people to kindly go fondle themselves.

    • Probably just a bit too expensive iirc.
I got this the k400 over it back when it was still available and it just came down to price i think. The k400 isn't bad enough to fork over the extra imo.

      • K830 was $70 on sale.

10 years of batteries offsets the difference comfortably, as well as just being a better keyboard to begin with.

    • Strong agree. Anyone saying the keyboard in this deal is good has not used a k830

  • I got one of these on AliExpress a year or so ago. Around $35 I think. Good for use on the TV with the Mac Mini.

For those that missed OP’s deal: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/196388322330

The Rii i4 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard is much better option for HTPC.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting on this exact model 🙏
