Great price!!! Got the smaller solo battery (10L) but need more volume. Had it for 5 years and used all sorts of lawn sprays. Still working strong.

  • +3

Thanks, bought one to upgrade my tiny 3.5l ozito battery sprayer hahahah, was getting tired of refilling it every 10 steps

    • +1

Ozito has the backpack sprayer 15L for $149 (skin only)

  • Thanks bought 2. One for each hand against neighbour’s bed of roses.

    • +2

For me it’s to kill the ever invading kikuyu from my neighbours shithole of a lawn

    • +3

      against neighbour’s bed of roses.

Is that where you were taught to be a man?

      • +6

For tonight he sleeps on a bed of nails

    • You don't want to cheap out on these things. Lower price often equates with more leaks.

      • I can vouch for leaking cheaper unit.

      • So this won't leak if you lean down with it on your back? My cheaper one does

        • +1

Or at the bottom, near where the hose connects. Good to check o ring etc periodically so you don't end up with your back wet.

      • +1

Na.. solos leak a lot. Sounds like you're about to find out too lol

Solo would be about a 3/10 but there is definitely a 0.1/10 on the market too.

Would I buy another solo? Na… I'd buy a 12L back pack sprayer from another brand

        • +1

I have a Silvan backpack sprayer from Bunners. Manual though. Never had a leak. HEavy use.

          • @Naigrabzo: I don't think I could ever use a manual one again as they're very Labor intensive however there's less to go wrong.

if it's for home I would probably go this way in terms of manual

            • @Combo64: Yeah my issue is that mine still works. If I can off load it in Fartbook or something that would be ok.

  • +17

Haven't tried this one, but the Ozito PXC is pretty good and worthwhile if you're already into that ecosystem. Has come up cheaper before but currently $149.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-15l-backpack-garde…

    • Not aware they have this thanks. Have the smaller one and just too small.

    • +2

Has a metal spray wand too.

      • Having just unboxed this (not used), I'd say the spray wand is the main downside of this as it doesn't accommodate other spray nozzles. No way of me getting my teejet fan nozzles on there for consistent sprays.

        • Yes likewise interested if anyone has a solution to this. Else fully loaded it is quite heavy which is expected, else it does a great job and happy with it.

        • For the backyarder a metal wand can be handy and simple to use. For heavier applications perhaps get a poly lance so it will fit your teejets.

    • +11

I've got one of these and I'm quite happy with it. The pump is a lot stronger than the Ozito PXC 7.5L sprayer that I had before.

Just be aware that 15L of water plus the sprayer is quite a lot of weight to get up on your back, so I wouldn't recommend backpack sprayers unless you're reasonably fit and strong or you're willing to live with only partially filling it.

The sprayer in this post might have advantages over the Ozito that I'm not aware of but if you want to go with the Ozito but don't yet have any batteries, you can get a suitable battery and charger for $20
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-2-5ah-battery-and-…

Ozito sprayer plus battery and charger is thus only slightly more than this deal.

Advantage of the Ozito is that you can use the battery with other tools and it has better reviews.

      • +1

Totally agree on the weight aspect. I have a 20l Paddock sprayer and reasonably fit. If you weren't you'd be on your back if you stumble.

      • Does the ozito leak if you lean down?

        • +3

          Nope. Very robust unit.

      • Any difference with batteries ie does it spray better with bigger bats?

        • +4

Nope. 2Ah and 4Ah showed no discernible difference unlike some tools which benefit from the extra torque.

    • +3

I've got the ozito 16l and couldn't be happier with it

  • +2

Other Solo sprayers also on sale (e.g. I bought the 475 for $146). Amazing as these very rarely go on sale. Thank you OP!

    • They one is hand pumped I believe

      • Yes, correct. If you've used one you know they're very easy to pump though.

  • +3

Anything for spraying eshay type bags ?

  • Bought one, thanks

  • +2

    It's lawn reno time

  • +2

Wish the 10L battery was on a better sale :( I have a 15L silvan and i think it's too big

6L is on sale. I reckon the 16L is an overkill. Tossing up whether to settle with the 6L.

      • I feel like it's a bit small and much worse bang for buck.

What size yard are you thinking of using 6L for?

I tend to do 100m2 at a time and that takes about 10L

        • +2

I see. Fair enough. Will go for the 16L, thanks.

Various jobs, not necessarily just the yard. Can be some wet n forget for the wall, footpath, driveway etc.

  • +2

What are people using this to spray? What’s the most cost effective weed killer in bulk?

    • yes i'd like to know this too . are people using this to bulk weed kill weeds? just spray everywhere and hope it all dies then hopefully your grass survives?

      • +1

you can buy selective herbicide like bow and arrow - it kills the weeds but not the grass. could also use it to apply nutrients or fertiliser to the soil

        • +1

Yeah, Bow and Arrow is great. Will take out almost all broadleaf weeds with 1 or 2 rounds without damaging pretty much any lawn type. Grassy weeds are a bit more picky and often need specific weed killers depending on the type (e.g. halosulfuron for nutgrass).

      • Broadleaf you are best going to a rural or animal produce store. Even online, getting dicamba. Anything is better than the overpriced watered down Bunnings weed killers.

    • I usually go though about 8-10L of diluted MPCA on approximately 300m² of lawn when I do my first spray of the season, so it's quite feasible to have something like this even if it's just on a residential block.

  • I'm looking for a good bulk buy weed killer for driveways, and my entire backyard which is paved. The array of green crap that grows between them is really frustrating.

I have the SCA hand pump Sprayer from the deal last year, but need two refills to get through the entire backyard.

And a lot of carrying and pumping.

Any suggestions for a good path weed killer that works on bricks and concrete?

    • +2

Slasher organic weedkiller works well for me

      • Ty!

      • Lol… Takes 6 applications. Don't waste your money even councils ditched it.

        • It doesn't for me…works everytime, single application. Seems like it works even faster than glyphosate.

Some times by the time I finish spraying the backyard some of the weeds I sprayed at the start has already shriveled up.

    • +2

      Bulk and cheap
      https://specialistsales.com.au/shop/woody-weeds/woody-weed-h…
Mix with pre emergent Simazine for longer lasting term ( I didn't bother looking for cheaper simazine which you may find elsewhere)
      https://specialistsales.com.au/shop/turf-domestic/herbicides…

      • Doubt a pre-emergent is going to do much good for a driveway and paved backyard. I'd just be going glyphosate when they pop up for that personally.

        • Actually makes a massive difference. Breaking the cycle is the key, eliminating the next seed generation and assisting when we forget to spray.

As long as you're on top of it the glyfo is fine. But most people don't follow up spray and it's back to the start, Easy if you know what your doing.

The amount of soil buildup between most paves is why I recommended it.

          • @wpw: Yeah, I neglected the pre-emergent on the lawn last year and am paying for it now, so I'm a bit pre-emergent fan, but I thought they were soil treatments rather than foliar, so wouldn't have thought they'd get much into the soil in this particular case to do the work.

            • @NigelTufnel: Correct that they are a soil treatment. nothing to do with foliage spray.
Just mix together for 1 application.
Most pavers I've seen end up having soil over time as weeds and leaf foliage break down into this.
Simazine and most pre emergents I've used then rely on rain to move into the root zone area to disrupt seed germination.
Just think of all that simazine over-spray being washed into the gaps 'where the weeds root zone is waiting..

      • Thanks mate for the links! 10 & 15kg, with 5gms per litre is a LOT, haha, will last me a few years. 200L per kg is too much. I have small paved backyard, usually finish it in about 10L of spray. So maybe 200L/1KG should suffice for the year.
At least I now know what chemicals I need, so thank you.

    • +1

Get 5L of Kamba M from special orders or online elsewhere - it'll last you if you're after bulk. Slasher is a waste of money, dilution rate makes it so expensive.

      • +1

Kamba M is a selective weed killer for turf. Also can't be sprayed on certain turf without knockback or even dead turf.
Bromixinil mcpa is a good broadleaf allrounder for turf.
Kamba Mcpa for the right turf is a great product.
Agree on your slasher view. Massively overpriced for the volume needed.
Poster was after a total weed killer and why I suggested the 2 products.

        • +1

lol yeah - I had a complete brain fart when posting that. Not enough coffee :S

          • @deloid: All good, you could of been replying to the post above after all

  • Question: Is there pressure flow control? End goal is to water indoor plants large and small and occasional delicate little pots

  • Is the included harness comfortable enough for a couple of hours work?

    • I’ve found it comfortable- fits the contours of your back.

    • +1

Clips can come undone sometimes.. overall solo are good because most are crap but they're not great.

  • Seeking advice, I am being asked to pay $10 for the special order delivery. Is anyone else getting this or are they getting $162 at check out?

    • +2

You'll need to click and collect to avoid the fee

      • Thank you! I was hoping to get it delivered for free with OnePass but happy to go in and pick up.

  • Woah! That is exceptional value.
    I have a 442. I might get this 441 as well.

    • Why would you want both?

      • Use 1x for pesticides and PGR, and the other for fert, liquid iron etc.
Or use the second for liquid iron and pigment (the ones that dirty the container a bit)

Note that I bought the 441, tried it on (never used it), realised the 442 had just been released. Sealed and returned the 441 and purchased the 442.

442 and 441 are almost identical (dimensions etc) 442 has more pressure from a different battery but had done my research and would have been happy enough with the 441 - for this price, great value!

        • +1

Thanks. I did look at the differences on youtube but it didn't say much
          Good to know!

  • +2

Had one for a few years, got a workout spraying all sorts of things.
Worked great BUT the battery itself gave out I think and because it’s all in one unit you can’t replace it.

Pretty shocked to see it RRP $349, i paid under $200 without discount a few years ago but that’s inflation I guess. At the $162 sale price it’s decent value as long as it lasts a few years.

    • +4

The battery for the 441 is replaceable you can even just use something like url below - the best part of solo is that all the components are DIY replaceable, seals etc.

      Battery

  • -5

I ordered the Silvan based on reviews…

    • I’d go the silvan for larger volumes 55L > (ie ATV or ride on sprayer or need double booms or more - but also consider other brands once I get to ride ons dependent on purpose) however the solo 441, for this backpack sprayer and for the price is exceptional (German engineered) doesn’t go on special very often (once every 5 years)

Only downfall is that it only has 2x speeds and it’s 12v (but could be a good thing if you just want to use your car battery on the farm or something)

This one also uses a popular standard lithium battery that’s replaceable.

My guess is this one has come on special as more 18V Battery sprayers have been hitting the market providing more pressure (which are only needed for more booms - double and quad or higher - and most won’t use for <20L backpack sprayers)

So my suggestion… if you’re keen for a backpack sprayer at an exceptional price with an excellent reputation for quality (to spray your lawn or fertilise your trees) this one should be top of your list right now

This bloke did a good review of it - he’s a certified greenskeeper and has a nice lawn
      [Solo 441 review] (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EnlPIZ0aXSo)

      • Be careful with Youtube reviews. These are essentially native adverts. Most companies will pay 1k for this sort of pre production review. You need to send your video to be approved by company before posting it online.

        • Can you watch that review - this guy is pretty well respected in the industry and he wasn’t paid - it’s pretty independent and returned the unit. He’s also mentioned the pro’s and con’s
I’ve also used Solo and can attest to the quality.
This particular unit I would rate for applying fertiliser and weed killer and preventers (bow and arrow and spartan)
If you need something with more oomph (higher pressure for dual or quad boom or more for your farm)
          maybe something else.
But in that price bracket… exceptional.
This would easily cover any home gardener/ landscaper with less than 1200m of land.
If you are already in ozito ecosystem maybe stay.
But id still go this over most brands

          • @[Deactivated]: I would definitely doubt he returned it and didn't get paid. Ever heard of people lying in Youtube. Don't believe these influenzers.

I don't blame the influenzers though. They don't get sent another product if they are critical. So they always spin it positive.

            • @Naigrabzo: Nah, he’s honest enough. This was before he monetised the channel… and I haven’t seen him use it since. He also didn’t give it the most glowing review (comparing to his existing 417)

But I also take your point.

From my perspective unless you need a double boom or more. This will more than suffice for the majority of home owners in a non-professional setting.
get a flat tip, some spare o rings and done.

        • +2

While I agree you need to be careful with youtube reviews (or any reviews). This:

Most companies will pay 1k for this sort of pre production review. You need to send your video to be approved by company before posting it online.

Is a statement that is just not correct in general terms. Plenty of companies send products to YouTubers for free with no extra sponsorship or approval requirements. Whether this is 'unbiased' given they may not get future products sent if they are particularly negative is another story, but this generalisation is not true.

          • @NigelTufnel: Ok man. Because if I need to promote literally any product I can point you toward some guy reviewing it in Youtube. Or some amazon review that's either AI generated or bought from a company in bulk.

I recently spoke to a company which can get be 1000 positive Amazon reviews for a price. :)

Wanna buy my stuff on amazon? I will depend on you my good sir.

            • +4

@Naigrabzo: Not sure what you're on about mate. Obviously fake reviews can be bought on any platform like I mentioned. Nothing special about youtubers, some are fake lyers, some are legit and honest.
In the world of the internet you need to use your brain to discern the difference, just like Amazon or any other reviews. Sweeping statements like "He's a Youtuber, you can't believe him" just aren't true…

      • +1

        yes, 5 stars.

  • Hmmm.

    Op or the
Ozito PXC 18V 15L Backpack Garden Sprayer PXBGSS-1815 that I already have batteries for?
Paper based Pros on the ozito I see are
    1. Metal wand
    2. 4.5kPa pressure vs 2.5
    3. Unsealed battery so the solo goes in the bin if the battery dies

Ozito is not an ATL, been this price since 27 Nov 2024 according to price hipster.

    • +1

I don’t think its price has moved since it was released less than a year ago. Great bit of kit…

    • Grab one when the zoito goes on sale.

  • -1

I’d go this solo over the ozito 16L for a few reasons.
    1. The solo brand is synonymous with quality
    2. Metal wand you can buy separately
    3. Customisable with different tips etc
    4. Zero waste on the design (ie wont get 1L sitting at the bottom with the solo)
    5. It’s comfortable.
    6. Get the carbon fibre extension shaft if you want to spray the top of trees etc.

Ozito I’m not sure if there’s different pressure settings? This solo one has 2x pressure settings. However if you were already in the ozito ecosystem and it had 4x pressure settings you might opt for ozito with higher pressure for double booms and if you were spraying to encourage soil health (kelp or seaweed for root development etc)

If you’re into your lawn, can also suggest pairing with some “plant doctor” stuff (or even research just find your local lawn store)

    • +2

There's no issue on the Ozito with having waste in the tank - I'm actually amazed at how little is left - really just a dribble.

AFAIR, there's no pressure selection though.

The Ozito does have higher ratings than the Solo on the Bunnings website but that could be skewed by the difference in normal price causing different expectations.

      • Yeah, I wasn’t too sure about the pressure with the ozito.
Different pressure is recommended for different things.
Generally being able to use more pressure is better for soil health and for distribution of material for double or quad booms etc
But if you’re going anything over a dual boom for a backpack sprayer… you’re probably overdoing it (and might be worth upgrading the tank)

    • +2

Solo leaks and parts forever break. I was a contractor till December 2023. I've owned more than 6 brands of sprayers. It's mainly clips on harness, seals, clips, knobs and lances leak and the clip which holds the lance into place.

I still own 4 solos but I'd never buy another..

      • What brand do you recommend?

        • +1

There is no perfect one. That's the trouble… I've had mates had whole tanks of glyso tip down their backs with solo, I've had a lot leak down my back due to seals going.

I know Silvians break. Bushrangers can seize over time.

I'd maybe try the Makita if you're in that ecosystem. They do a lot of gardening tools.

    • Solo battery is harder to replace though.

I have a manual 15L Silvan still going strong after 5 years. I am very careful with washing it with detergent after each use though.

  • +1

Fyi these aren't adjustable psi so don't expect to buy a boom arm for this model. You need the contractors model for a boom arm which is 4psi.

    • Pretty sure there is 2 settings, high and low for this model. But anything I’ve read doesn’t recommended a boom arm for this even on the high setting
