  • Does this use the iPhone’s U1 chip for determining location?

Reviews say it didn’t but the speaker is so loud you don’t need precision tracking… maybe.

      • yeah but No Precision Finding? so is that the same with the apple tags?

    • +1

      No UWB on these.

    • Only first party airtags can have UWB. (Apples restriction)

      • +6

They have to limit third party accessories, otherwise there would be too much competition and that's not good for Apple. They'd have to actually try and innovate to stand out.

    • get these now or wait? i have a trip in december. not sure if i wanna pull the triger just yet.

    • Latest info here.

  • I'm also seeing Save up to 7% on this product with business-only pricing, curious if it stacks.

  • Can I share the location of the item with the family?

    • Yes, should be same options from "find my" app

    • Yes, I can confirm this.

    • I tried and somehow sharing is restricted to 16yo+

  • Will it work on android?

    • +6

I don't have these but have been looking for a while - have been previously informed that ugreen tags do not work on Android.

If anyone has a deal for Android ones I'd love to hear about it.

      • Also looking for an Android equivalent (that is not locked to Samsung eco system)

        • Moto tags are the best for Android compatibility. Supposedly UWB isn't the best.

        • +1

This lets you use Samsung Galaxy SmartTags on any Android device
          https://github.com/KieronQuinn/uTag

      • -1

Used tile for a while but they literally brick older ones with updates to force you to buy another.

They are nowhere near the accuracy of other ones as they don't have the eco system. I think Samsung is the only option but I'm a Motorola guy 😒

        • -1

The Tile is shit. Wouldn’t be able to Find water on an island. Next to useless

      • Comments on previous deals have suggested AliExpress ones, which apparently have similar functionality to any other Android tag. Can anyone confirm?

        • +1

I used this one and purposely lost it along a track near my house - few people past and hour) and it seemed to work.

          https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009306727686.html

Not that I have had to use it for real life situations yet.

        • I've bought two different types. They work fine but battery isn't great

  • +2

    Looks like not Android friendly.

From the FAQ on the product page:
    https://www.ugreen.com/products/45297
What devices are compatible with the UGREEN FineTrack Smart Finder?
The UGREEN FineTrack Smart Finder works with Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It uses the Apple Find My app, which is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. It is not compatible with Android devices.

  • I’ve never had these tags before. Are they good to chuck in luggage for going overseas?

    • Yea

  • +6

I would say some sort of Airtag in luggage overseas almost essential. (or Android equivalent). To be in an airport without luggage and look it up and chase down your luggage is great. I've had luggage lost before and it's not a great experience. The other tip is to pack a bit of everyone luggage into each bag, that way if you loose one bag, everyone looses a bit rather than one person losing everything.

    • Batteries aren't permitted in checked in luggage right?

      • Its a tiny battery, most of the time I’ve flown they have said its no problem

  • Anyone know how long the battery lasts?

    • +4

If you read it says 2yrs

      • +1

It says up to 2 years.
        Anyone actually have one?

        • -4

So why ask then if you already knew

        • +1

Yeah, I've had one for maybe 3 months. Battery still going…

          • +2

@Bogusjimmy: Nowadays I just travel with a spare CR2032 button battery as I know one of the Airtags is going to signal a low battery while travelling. Much easier than than looking for one in your travels and the batteries take up no space.

            • +2

@scratchy: As a cyclist I always have CR2032s handy, since they're used by my heart rate monitor, power meter, and wireless shifters, plus obviously the AirTags I have tucked in my various bags and attached to some of my bikes.

              • @Bogusjimmy: I have a nice stem cap hidey hole for an airtag on a bicycle. Not sure if there is the same option on a motorbike.

                • +1

@scratchy: @scratchy not a bad idea. I have seen some interesting mounts. Under the bottle cages are simple, and don't seem to affect range, whereas I've seen tests where hiding them inside the frame can reduce their effectiveness.

    • For me after a year or so it starts warning of low battery so I’ve put in an annual reminder for me to change all the batteries so I don’t get caught out

  • Single item also available for $18.99 (lightning deal) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0D53RXMB1

  • does anyone have any "find my" suggestions for a motorcycle? just as a security measure in case it is stolen

  • Picked up one of these for my son's keyring last time they went on sale, and it's been fine so far. Position doesn't update as often as an AirTag, but sufficient for what it is.

  • Is it possible to "mute" these? Airtag proly has a way to silence the speaker.

    • No airtags don't. Newer ones are designed to prevent tampering to the speaker IIRC. Something to do with stalkers and domestic violence et al.

      • Fair enough, what's the best solution to track your car, we don't want thieves to get alerted lol

        • +1

Airtags still work pretty well. The speaker isn't that loud. Wrap it in an old sock. Unfortunately all the solutions are also solutions for stalkers. Thieves will only get alerted after 4 hours and it starts emitting a sound 24 hours afterwards if with you and not marked as stolen.

          • @scratchy: True, for vehicles I guess the only real solution is sim-based gps tracker, but it is more complicated than throwing a 20$ tracker in the boot (or in engine bay lol)

  • I haven't got any AirTags to test these against, but in my experince the "left behind" notifications with these are quite slow (I've had notif 10 Mins after walking away)

Otherwise for just keeping track of things on a map they seem to update often enough for me, eg left bags in Southern Cross Station lockers and seemed like they were updating every 5-10 mins.
I rate them pretty good for my use, lose your key and getting it to sound off is instant, haven't had any annoying connection issues with them

    • This has been my experience too. The tags appear to poll/broadcast at infrequent intervals - presumably it's a trade-off between battery life and accuracy. I don't know what the frequency is, but 5 minutes seem plausible.

I've tried using AirTags to track my marathon runners and they generally lag what the runner's phone is reporting by quite significant distances.

So, good for tracking stuff that is periodically stationary - such as a lost or stolen item - but not so good for realtime reporting.

  • Has anyone noticed that the don't remind me when i leave this location does not work with these tags? So annoying reminder every time you leave your house?

  • +2

Anyone got advice/suggestions for vehicle tracking? Something that works without costing an arm and a leg and is effective would be epic, silent tracking would be preferred so there's no alerts :) ty!

    • GPS tracker on 4G SIM

      • any recommendations?

  • Looks like a cheap option to attach to the tv remote, which always disappears in our house :/
