Amazon Australia Account Closed by Amazon Japan?

Today, I received an email in Japanese. After translating it, I found it was telling me that my Amazon.co.jp account had been closed. At first, I just thought it was an unfiltered spam email, but when I tried to use Amazon AU, I discovered that my previously logged-in session had been lost. After logging in again, I found that my account could no longer be used, and I was prompted to “Explain with evidence how your account complies with Amazon’s Conditions of Use.”

I have never used Amazon Japan, and according to what I found on Google, Amazon Japan and Amazon AU are not even on the same account system. In fact, my Amazon AU email address cannot be used to log in to Amazon Japan at all. I’m puzzled as to why my account would be closed by Amazon Japan. Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

I have never used Amazon Japan

    • Amazon AU and Amazon JP run on different account systems, so even if I use the same email as my Amazon AU account, I still need to sign up again on Amazon JP.

I've used my AU account to buy from UK, US and JP in the past and it's been a seamless experience. That is, I've not needed separate accounts.

It's also the case that if I buy something in another country, the account appears to search for items in that country and use their currency - I then need to change things back to AU.

Appreciate that 'accounts' may be different to shipping ability (as above), but just raising just in case you believe that they're completely independent buying functions, which they may not be.

Keep us updated - I fear reading posts about unknown / not-obvious reasons for account closures as I often have large amounts of credit in mine.

        • well I have been using the JP and US sites long before the AU site came into play so I have each account ring fenced , it avoids complications especially if I am activating prime membership for those regions when I actually visit them

        • When I tried to log in to Amazon JP using my AU account, I got the following message:

          Amazonを初めてご利用のようです
          [email protected] 変更

          メールを使ってアカウントを作成しましょう

          アカウントの作成に進む

I’m not sure what would happen next, but it’s clear that I’d need to create a new account.

Of course, I’ll keep you updated. What’s strange is that when I log in to Amazon AU, it only asks me to provide two statements: why my account can’t be accessed, and “Explain with evidence how your account complies with Amazon’s Conditions of Use.”
But when I Googled it, all the results said you have to upload things like credit card statements, etc.

          • @kyloren1: have you tried contacting Amazon Support they should be able to help you out and fix up some anomalies with your Au account

            • @H3R34TH4C0MM3NTS: I haven’t called customer service yet. I’ve submitted the two statements they requested and am crossing my fingers that Amazon will reinstate my account.

@kyloren1: It shouldn't be that complicated, I'd go on the support chat of the AU site , I have found them pretty helpful

                • @H3R34TH4C0MM3NTS: So do I need to create a new account and chat with them since I can’t log in to my current one?

If you can't log in to your account, and haven't chatted to customer service, I sure hope you aren't saying that you clicked on a link in a foreign language email and then uploaded documents.

This is not place to fix what may be an identity theft or scammer related issues. As others suggested … your problem is with AMAZON so contact them they have a fully quaified support team just for that purpoce - loging onto an account you claim you never had and trying to upload id documents etc is only going to make things a lot worse for you .. you are more than likely the targer of a scammer & instead of taking a pause & think you seem to be clicking on links & uploading documents - well good luck to you
