I’m pissed because I bought this a while ago in Japan and it did not have the AU plug. I didn’t think we’d see new UGREEN chargers here for a long time, yet here they have come. I love it, so compact and light so might just have to buy another one to use domestically.

It can get quite hot due to the size if you’re maxing out the 65w, but for my use cases - charging a mobile, smart watch or action camera/drone batteries, it’s been fine without any issues.

kind a weird shape, might struggle to stay in ports that a sunk into the wall

    • Yeah definitely see your point, my experience has only been with US/JP plugs both table top and on a wall, neither had issues but they were also flush with the surface.

    • +2

Also looks quite wide, may block adjacent plugs according to some reviews.

    • Depends on your use, but personally I love this shape. I have a bunch of the Otto chargers from officeworks that showed up on here a while back, they have a similar form factor, I find their really useful when you have households that put the outlet behind furniture. Allows you to use the outlet to charge whilst putting the bed, bedside table, our couch as close as possible to the wall.

And also good for travel, very slim line.

Mind you the Otto chargers were $10 each for ~35w, so it made sense to buy a number of them.

    • Yeah. I have a similar 65W flat charger with two US prongs from a visit to China last year and I had to constantly baby the charger because it'd disconnect easily with the slight tug of a cable.

I found it easier to use an old Anker with a figure 8 cable.

It's a bit annoying when the two pronged AU plugs don't work in China where some sockets expect 3 prongs or it'll block the plug. So I just use the US type.

  • A few reviews saying drawing 65w from a single port causes it to overheat and under deliver

    • Yeah, I read those as well going into it. Most (if not all) seemed to be when people were using it to charge higher powered devices at that 60-65W+ range. My uses are small, portable devices like mobiles, etc. so I figured it shouldn't be an issue and so far - haven't experienced any.

  • How much does this weigh?

    • It does have a little bit of weight to it, but not heavier than the other GaN chargers from UGREEN/Anker.

I would recommend this for better value.

Now yes i know there is a lot of scepticism about this brand but i have been using it for about 6 months now in several countries and its been working perfect for me.

    • As long as you're willing to live with the risks, sure, why not. I must say though, Lencent and Heymix chargers actually offer much better value with more or less the same risk factor.

    • I've only ever bought one Zyron - my first dip into the world of GaN chargers. I was quite surprised as it ended up being quite hot to touch when I tried it and subsequently was the hottest charger I've ever had… All the UGREEN and Anker ones after that (even including this compact one) haven't been close. I'll never go back.

YMMV though and I do respect that it could have been a manufacturing defect, I didn't bother returning/exchanging after reading similar comments, I just moved on with UGREEN.

    • Just adding in another anecdote that my zyron 100w charger broke after a few months of usage, and it was always pretty hot. Shame because it was compact.

I've got two of the 67W Zyron chargers and they've been good so far (I haven't heard of any issues with the 67W version). I did have an issue with one of them where the glue had seemed to have failed after about 12 months but Zyron did send me a replacement unit (though initially they tried to charge me postage which I wasn't happy about as it was clearly a manufacturing issue). The biggest thing is that I haven't found another charger that is as flexible - I've got all the travel adapters I'd need plus the extension cable that lets me convert it to a desk charger which is super useful when hotels put powerpoints in stupid locations.

  • This works in Japan right? The plug types are confusing

    • +2

Yep, Japan uses a 2 prong plug the same as the US.

At the risk of sounding stupid, is this thing just to allow fast charging of your devices when traveling? It’s not a power bank right, as it needs to always be connected to the power point?

I guess another purpose it serves is to negate the need to lug a power board and all the individual power adapters along with your travel, is that right?

Sorry for the ignorance, about to travel to Japan soon so weighing up the benefits and trying to educate myself with this product 😳

You’ve just answered your own questions.

  • We ended up just buying a cheap charger at Daiso when in Japan. We did have adaptors for our own chargers (most chargers now are 100-240volt) as well but were a bit wobbly in some power points

  • +1

Formfactor looks awful.. you can get GAN bricks that occupy the space of the socket without too much bulk, hard to see the point of this really
