Those will be limited to 10gbps or less though. You're paying for the 40gbps transfer rate.
Wait for USB 4 Generation 2 (80gbps).
But does the hardware you have today support USB 4 Gen2?
You keep waiting for that newer and shinier generation you will never end up buying anything.
Looks nice. Anyone know how fast it is with a non TB USB 4.0 port?
10Gbps usually, sometimes 20Gbps if it's a dual lane port. Almost all the other enclosures are single lane 10Gbps, the 20Gbps ones cost almost this much as is.
Note a lot of common laptops don't support 4.0 still
I bought one that arrived yesterday, would have posted but when I looked again there was no coupon. I suppose it's a one use job.
Anyway I put a 4tb Orico OG7000 in, only because it was $339 on Sunday, so nearly the cheapest 4Tb and has 5 yr warranty. I just think these setups are way better than a Samsung T7 for example. They're slower and get hot. So I formatted in exFat, was fine for usb C from my Windows, copied 700gb of photos. USB3.2 is only 5bgps so that was the limit. SSD temp was reporting 27c degrees, so just above room temp.
I then tried to create a mac photos library but wouldn't import. Turns out you need apple file system APFS, so I decided to reformat and use this for Apple stuff only. When I plugged it in after that it behaved differently, and better. Comes up with Apple suggestions like backups.
Am copying the 700Gb now but speed is limited to 800mbps, network speed, running well at that speed, but of course it's easy for this thing. The unit is only getting slightly warm. I much prefer fanless stuff, and these seems solid quality.
3.2 should be 10Gbps unless it's not properly backwards compatible, mine got 10Gbps on 3.2
I haven't had a chance to try it on my USB 4.0 laptop yet
usb 3.2 gen 1x1 5Gbps, usb 3.2 Gen1x2 10Gbps, usb3.2 Gen2x1 10Gbps, USB3.2 Gen2x2 20Gbps.
Pls consider iDSONIX-NVMe-case, eg https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/186038712684
Real-world-experience: room temp. 17°C & SSD-Gen2 started-out 23°C. After copying ~ 120Gb & 10m, temp. rosed to 44°C with ~ 200MB/s writing-speed TO-ssd, https://ibb.co/mVrV5JCd
Case likely NOT-designed for constant-use with HIGH room-temp. in summer, eg gaming. Keep an eye on temp. during summer-use with airflow direct @ ALU-case.
