I truly hope Valve never goes public, they are one of the few "good guys" remaining.
Going public would get us half life 3.
Complete with DLC crowbar skins.
you think you want that, but you don't.
@gakko Maybe, maybe not. But it would surely destroy the Valve we know, so the flip side would not be worth it for anyone in the long run. Except of course for a bunch of greedy shareholders.
@gakko: I would like to see a Half Life 3 as well (actually would prefer to see L4D3 more). But I also have hundreds of games on the Steam platform and Valve becoming corrupted by shareholders would seriously jepardise the long term security of my collection of games, along with probably a billion other people.
So this could never be worth it for just one or 2 Valve games being released.
Anyone who is into PC gaming and uses Steam, should never want Valve to be compromised by shareholders. It would be a bad thing for everyone.
@wonderboy4: I don't think it would be the worst. We could end up with an open source alternative for example. They have kind of a monopoly on distribution as it is. Being said, they got there by having a good platform. Anyway it'll happen eventually, tech never stays pure.
@wonderboy4: its a pipe dream really. Open source software is a mostly non commercial approach but I think what is more likely to happen is GOG fills in the space if valve ends up looking like EA etc
They are not good guys , they are a monopoly and charge ridiculous mark up from the small developers and straight up steal from skin mod makers lol.
As far as the average consumer is concerned they are a perfect example of a decent company, especially when comparing to other publishers in the industry.
If Valve was run like one of those, you would have a lot more to complain about than what they charge developers or how they handle things with mod makers. Two things that don't effect the consumer, I mean honestly, you really seem to be grasping at straws with your argument.
Focus on the positives a bit more and try to appreciate a good thing when you have it.
$2.95 just a few months ago. I found it ok, wouldn't say overwhelmingly positive like the reviews. For what it is, it's been well made.
Bought it..thanks OP, finally have something to use for the cases from CS Go I've sold.
So…many… memories
Anyone run this on a Mac using an emulator?
Ahhh Dumb question time but if I already have Black Mesa in my steam collection, would this get updated to the definitive edition? Is there any difference?
There's only the one version, they're just calling patch 1.5 the 'definitive edition' so you're all good.
Controls take some tuning especially on the steam deck.
The best way to experience this classic imo. A truly pioneering game that helped launch the behemoth that is Valve.
Beyond the massive graphics update, it has also been enhanced in the game play department and whole new levels have been added.
Testament to what a motivated and talented small group of fans can achieve, especially when given the support of a company that is not full of arrogance and sold out to greedy shareholders.
