Advice Wanted: Raspy Noise on Accelerating Impreza 2006

Gets worse and "gurgly" towards muffler in drive. Car is Impreza 2006 GG auto.

Noise is towards front and hoping it's exhaust gaskets or something similar. Mechanic on phone is talking about melted cats (don't think so). Video of issue.

    Your cats are melting.

Also it's called accelerating in Australia, not 'on gas'.

      Accelerating makes revs, cheers!

  • Your catalytic converter didn’t just give up—it straight up melted like it saw gas prices and couldn’t handle the pressure.

should be able to take out the O2 sensors to verify cat situation. how much would splicing in after market cats be?

    • 15k roughly

  • Definitely cats gone.

  • Cats or PCV

    • EGR had like 2mm carbon. cleaned top valve from pcv pipe and thought it was the pcv. hopefully that's it.

  • Leaf blower and spraying soapy water might help you work out where the leak is. Unless you have access to smoke tester which is better.

    How many kms?

It had a good run. Time to retire it…soon by the sounds of it

  • The pistons are worn out on the bottom. Happens to boxer engines if you never get them rotated.

Gotta drive in the northern hemisphere 50% of the time to even out wear.
Flat earthers miss this one easy trick.

Or make use of the aero kit to drive upside down in tunnels.

Cats have gone to the dogs…..most likely.

  • codes are p0032 O2 sensor bank 1 heater circuit high and knock sensor low. bank 1 O2 sets the AF on this car. previous owner drive with leaking valve covers for some time and could have messed downstream parts.
