I've got Hikvision domes and turrets. I would definitely not recommend domes outdoors unless you need the vandal rating and are prepared to frequently clean them, or are using them with the IR light turned off. As soon as they start getting a bit dirty, they reflect the IR light at night back at the sensor and start blinding the camera.

  • can these be wall mounted?

      Yes

Depending on your use case, a Duo V2 might be more suitable. I've found the V3 is good for walls or high mounting points, but not the great for low roof lines, that is where the Duo V2 wins.

    • Besides the resolution, whats the difference between the V3 and V2?

      • Explained in more detail below, but in brief - 2 are 8mp, 3 are 16mp. The 3 and 3v have wider horizontal but narrower vertical field of view and (apparently?) have better implementation of ONVIF compatibility, which may be important if you're running on Frigate or an off-brand NVR and want to retain some of the funky tech of the stitched two lens solution.

Confusingly 2v and 3v are domes, whereas the original 2 and 3 are bullets.

Agreed, albeit the naming nomenclature makes explaining it even more difficult. Of the four main models (some also come in wifi and/or with floodlights), all with exceptional 180 degree horizontal panoramic viewing, but with vastly different aspect ratios and vertical field of view.

The Duo 2 is a twin 4 megapixel (8mp total after seamlessly stitching images from both lens together) bullet style cam, albeit it's form factor is much wider than most, so "bullet" doesn't really convey it's ET's head-shaped form factor well. It has the broadest field of view thanks to a generous vertical FOV, and is a perennial favourite of OzBargainers and The Hook Up alike.

The Duo 2v is a twin 4mp (8mp total) dome, but with a much narrower vertical field of view than the regular Duo 2.

The Duo 3 and 3v are both twin 8 megapixel (16mp total) in bullet and dome form factors respectively, again with differing but relatively narrower vertical field of view.

In brief, the Duo 2 provides the largest area of coverage, albeit via 2 x 4mp lens. The Duo 3 and 3v have better resolutions, but narrower vertical field of view. They're great for 180 degree views up narrow sideblocks, along the sides of your house, or for wide area front or back views where you don't want huge swathes of your image to be sky. But many people prefer the original Duo 2 because of it's larger FOV.

I've got all four versions, and personally find the Duo 3 best for my use cases looking after long, narrow target areas. IR reflections from the domes and narrower FOV of the Duo 2v and 3v, mean they are my least favourites and I'd only really recommend if you're using them in an area where you concerned about vandals or wanting to be discrete about where you were pointing them. Both bullets and domes can be vertically or horizontally mounted under soffits or off walls, with a reasonable (albeit finicky for the dome enclosed cams) degree of flexibility in terms of vertical and horizonal aiming.

And for the record, as usual, they can be had for much better pricing if you time your run well via AliExpress (who have a sale kicking off tonight). After coins and coupons, I paid AU$90 for a Duo 2 in early 2024, a ridiculously low AU$80 each for two Duo 3's in June last year, AU$83 for a Duo 2v and $122 for a Duo 3v in June 25. Good cams if you've got a specific use case that requires broad oversight or a really wide angle, but not at this price.

After checking @Clear's usual voucher codes posts via www.ozbargain.com.au/node/919771 - and checking for stackable store-specific discount codes from Reolink Official shop on AliExpress, a search for "Reolink Duo" from their coins page later tonight will likely deliver more options and a cheaper result shipped from the same Sydney factory.

      • $80 for the Duo 3 is a great price.

        • Indeed it was. One of the best Reolink deals of many on AliExpress…

  • Is there a wifi equivalent to this?

  • any idea how these would go in an alpine environment? I don't have a big budget so internally heated isn't really an options. I'm thinking the dome cameras may help with snow/sleet which often blows sideways…
