No idea what Microsoft were thinking with the fabric keyboard deck, just awful and there's no economic way to fix it.
There's vinyl skins you can buy on Amazon and Aliexpress that cover most the top case deck.
I've considered them for my rotting SL2 keyboard but haven't bought one yet as the screen also has the yellow delamination problem so don't want to throw good money at bad. Also I'm unsure how effective the skins are.
