Klein tools - these should be very good

I’m inkleined to agree with your statement.

      • +6

I just think they'll be a bit small.

Any chance related to calvin klein?

      • Just the Klein Bottle.

I deKlein this deal because I already have one. Cheers!

        You deserved an upvote.

        • That's very klein of you.

I like Klein electrical tools except this particular tool is a rebrand tool from another manufacturer. You can find the similar from another name brand. This particular model is special it's missing the crimp tabs. Similar to the https://www.totaltools.com.au/213563-milwaukee-0-3-6mm-self-…

      • If you're making an out there statement regarding the product, at least do folks a favour and actually provide the source/proof. That Milwaukee one came out later than the one posted

        • Yes Milwaukee is a newer product but they are both made in Taiwan. Klein tools pride their tools Made in USA but this particular wire stripper isn't. They are made by KYP Tool in Taiwan.

Thanks - great deal, nothing worse that using a terrible wire stripper (which I have done for the past 25 years) - not anymore!

Your life will change. I own 3 pairs. 1 for upstairs, 1 downstairs and 1 that's never around when needed. Note: wires above ~12AWG(4mm²) of stranded copper (if you only ever use one size you might be able to dial it in, but forget about it above 20AWG), you're better off using the other, even more highly underrated, life changing top-pocket stripper, otherwise you'll begin losing your precious conductors So rare it took 5min to find damn pair - don't be fooled by the similar looking device on AliExpress, they don't have the notches along the side.

      • Have you found that these pull the wire strands through as they strip? I can never seem to get a clean strip,

        • You're doing it wrong :)

          • @barg99: Doesn't matter what I adjust they always pull strands through. How do I do it right?

            • +1

@stuffandthat: You're not putting the tps cable through the oval eye hole? Trying to strip it right?

Unless you have a funky pair? I can strip tps cable and cores. CatX cable and cores with no issue every time.

Be gentle with the adjustment knob if you twist it too hard you'll cross thread it then you're boned. It's only needs a 1/4.

      • RE: top-pocket stripper:
I missed the bit about getting tricked by similar looking devices on AliExpress purchased an identical looking one for AU$4.03 on AliExpress (the same listing had identical blue and red variants. both of which had the notches on side ) . Verdict it works great for wire sizes that fit the provided holes. The top blade work ok for cat6.

    Great deal. Usually $40-50 elsewhere.

    • Tools Warehouse was clearing their Klein Tools in June, this one was $23.88 (40% off), or $21.49 with price guarantee at Bunnings.

    • +12

      Yes, $27 is a good price for a stripper…

      • +2

But not necessarily the price of a good stripper

  • I've gotten pretty good at stripping the rubber shielding with a pair of scissors…

    • You do you.

The one weakness of these wire strippers is if the cable is oily and greasy, then this wire stripper cannot get a firm hold and the cable will slip. So make sure the cable is dry and free of grease/oil.

      • +4

@jv - does this rule apply to all strippers?

  • +9

Looks like they have all klein stuff discounted? The ratcheting crimpers are also on sale for $28.95 https://www.bunnings.com.au/klein-tools-ratcheting-crimper-0…

Im skeptical these can do 22 gauge wire reliably. Happy to be proven wrong though.

    • Probably okay, the stripping function doesn't cut, it pinches and pulls. This type of strippers doesn't touch the actual wires.

Unlike cutting strippers or linesman pliers that may over cut.

    • 30 bucks, try it for yourself… If you're not happy return it.

These are awesome, can strip 24 awg solid core. Dunno about stranded, would only by pre-made for short cables.

  • @OP, Thank you Very Much

Wish I didn't have one that was good enough..

  • Logged in to stay these are brilliant for lefties as theres a see through hole.

  • Thanks OP.. finally will be able to replace my $2 Dick Smith small wire stripper.

I grabbed one. Quality is good.

My golden rule with tools is - buy the cheap version, then replace it if you use it enough to break it (or you're using it so frequently you start to develop strong opinions). I make an exception for anything dangerous (I don't want to save money on an angle grinder).

The surprising thing about this is that sometimes the cheap thing is totally fine. I still own the first hammer I ever bought, from an independent hardware store (!) for $10. And I have a clone of these wire strippers I bought from Jaycar (it has the patent details embossed and one of the countries covered is West Germany). Much to my disbelief they still work perfectly after decades of weekly use.

I'm tempted for $30 but I have a bad feeling the only difference I'd see with these is the colour. There's a reason this design is so popular.

Guys, just don't. These things are available in a bajillion different brands. They're all the same product, printed with different logos.

Technically, there's two versions. The one that has been around for years, in various brands, and a newer version that appeared out of China recently.

I have the 'Vise Grip' branded ones (old style, from Bunnings), and I have the newer (slightly better) style that I bought on AliExpress for… wait for it… SIX AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS, shipped. The newer version is slightly different in a couple of ways - the jaws are smaller and sharper - but they work identically, and they're all the same, regardless of what brand is printed on them!

Don't buy this one, it's a rort! Buy the identical item on AliExpress for one fifth of the price!

      Got a link?

      • +1

    • I too have a cheapy from aliexpress and it definitely does the job. It struggles with fine wire guages and occassionaly buggers them up but I think its a lot to ask for a tool like this with all the different guages it has to support. I think a much different tool is needed when youre soldering a Raspbetty Pi.

  • How does this compare to this with crimping

  • I remember getting some like this 25 years ago, was like a life changing tool for someone who installed all their friends car stereos. Has been my favorite tool for years.
