Crysis 2 is worth it for $10, and maybe DA:O Deluxe, but I can't see anything else that is worth it and hasn't been cheaper before…

    • What about Alice? Has it been less than $10 before? Was wondering whether to buy it.

      • You could be right. I know the original was popular for its art style but not so much the gameplay, and I'm not sure the sequel fares much better.

Its a shame EA went down the path of Origin for all their games… Such a horrible program :/

At least we see some good prices from time to time… However there is still an aussie Tax from all EA games it seems :/

Personally I don't see Origin as being significantly worse than Steam. My only issue with it is that I already have Steam and I don't need or want another client running. There aren't any games that are Origin exclusive that I have a burning desire to play, so I stick with games I can get on Steam. At least in my case, having Origin exclusive games hurts EA more than it helps them.

      • for some reason tho my install of Origin is a large install and it takes a lot more memory in the background than steam

Also I already have GoG and Steam, I don't want to spread my didgital ownership library over to many areas just cuz EA wanted to whore the market…

And they also charge an AUS tax so I don't like how Origin wont allow you easy ways around it :/

"just cuz EA wanted to whore the market…" I think that's a bit unfair - I can certainly understand them not wanting to pay up to 30% of their sales to Valve all the time given Steam doesn't do anything they can't offer themselves.

As for the AUS tax, it's the same under Steam - most publishers decide to charge more to Australia because they can. Looks like the ACCC might be finally getting off their arse to do something about it though…

        • THing is tho, steam dosnt add the tax, the publishers do… All Valve games are the same price around the world, the publishers control the price not steam.

Its no different from paying distributors to send the games to B&M shops… Should EA setup their own supply chain for that too? Doing it this way means EA now has to foot the bill for data storage and transfers, originally done by valve,

EA is one of the companies who sell games with AUS tax, for that they get a black mark on my books.

    • Updating BF3 on Origin took almost a day. They are slow as hell unlike Steam.

I got Bulletstorm for free from Origin (last year) after playing it through I would have happily have paid $10 for it… very entertaining :)

  • $10 for Battlefield 2, so worth it!

    • Reminds me of the deal Pizza Hut had years ago with that game.

Dead Space 2 isn't bad, considering how much it goes for on Steam AU.

    • Check historical prices fro BF2 and if you're patient you could get it for <$5

      • I am pretty sure its $5 on greenman if you use a uk proxy to get it to show up.

    • that's $10 too much considering it was given away for free….

  • Got bundles with most of these titles for 9.99 from Amazon.

These aren't great deals. In fact, the American digital sales have had most of these a lot cheaper. I got every C&C game ever made (including expansions) for $15 last week. That they're $10 each is awful.

Sorry OP but I'm negging this.

    • That's fine, it's your opinion. But just wanted to ask, did you have to use VPN when purchasing said digital games? Cause some people like me have no idea how VPN works and would prefer to make simple purchases without fiddling with anything.

      • No. I usually buy from Amazon (use an American address), GreenManGaming, Steam etc, etc.

Where was that C&C deal? Kicking myself for missing it :(

  • Many of these titles have been MUCH cheaper on Steam, pass. I guess some may interest ppl due to being Origin exclusive

  • Ah yes, all the $20 games that got out free with that voucher code screw-up.

Dead space titles are $4.99 @ gamersgate . Not sure whether requires VPN or not.

I didn't know how a VPN works, but this did it for me www.tunnelbear.com .

No fiddling at all. Just turn it on to activate it, enter the site, buy the game and then turn it off again.

  • EA don't get to consistently charge Aussies 40% more and then pretend they are giving us a deal on Australia day. That's just rude.

EA price gouging is why I no longer purchase EA distributed games.

  • The Spore game and Galactic Adventures expansion at $10 each is not bad if you haven't already got them….

  • It's not an 'Australia Day' sale at all. The same sale is going on in Europe, Asia and various other regions.

If you're willing to use a proxy, the cheapest region to buy from I've found is India where the games come to just under $5 each - http://store.origin.com/store/easa/en_IN/html/pbPage.VALUE_G…

  • So with using a proxy (tunnelbear), what happens at the payment stage where it wants an address?
Will it still work if I plug in Australia?
I am on the india origin as in the above post

AND, free tunnel bear is 500mb/mth, is that enough to get the BF2BC Vietnam expansion?

    • When you get to the billing/payment page, before submitting the form, disconnect from the proxy and put in India as your country.

You only need the proxy/vpn to get to the billing page before submitting your details. After you have purchased then you either get a region-free key emailed to you or the game is linked to your origin account and you can download it from your regular IP - No proxy needed.

  • Thanks for the above,
One more question, I never got my BF2bc2 ganme from origin, I bought the DVD and have it installed on the pc.
    Will the origin expansion work?
Do I actually have to download the expansion or is it already on the dvd and I am just unlocking it with a code that they send?

    Thanks

add: I did just find a comment on Amazon, not sure if true or the same for origin.
"For those having problem with inputting the code, it will not work inside Origin or online if you try to activate it on the EA website. After launching original Battlefield BC2 there is an option to input bonus code, use that instead."

You should be able to activate your CD key on the origin client. Once it's activated on Origin then expansions/DLC purchased from the Origin site will be compatible. (If you have an EA Account which I think is required for BC2 anyway, you should be able to use that to log into Origin with the same info)

By expansion, do you mean BC2: Vietnam? If so, then I don't think it would be on the base game disc so you will probably have to download it through Origin.

If you buy the expansion through Origin then I'm, pretty sure it will work on the origin client. I think the comment on Amazon only applies to keys purchased from Amazon or other retailers. Origin is EA's official store btw.

As for the 'bonus code' thingy, I just came across this online:

      1. Launch BC2 and log in.
      2. Click the "Vietnam" button along the left side of the main menu. The game should switch over to Vietnam mode and ask for a product key.
      3. Enter your expansion key.
      4. Profit! BC2: Vietnam should now be activated and playable.
  • Thanks for your help there Ace, cheers.

  • Has anyone who pre ordered SimCity been able to use the $10 cupons? Means these games would be pretty much free :)
