The RRP is usually $499 at @reolink (currently $409), lowest price on camelcamelcamel was around $375. As usual, AliExpress prices fluctuate, so it's worth checking throughout the day. Don’t forget to stack with cashback services (which I sadly forgot) and pay using USD. The lower spec version RLC-823S1 with 5x optical zoom is slightly cheaper.

  • Random question
Im looking at a new set of cameras
Would most people go reolink or hikvision if price wasnt an issue

    • That's a no brainer. They are in different leagues.

Hikvision to reolink is like comparing a Mercedes to one of the new mgs…. Chinese knock off.

If money is not an issue. However money is an issue, so the reolinks are a great compromise between cost and performance

      • I used Hikvision in the past.
But old NVR's web UI was using some plugin which was giving me issues every time I used it.
        And overal UI wasn't great.
        The picture quality was good.

So I am considering Reolink for the following reasons:

        1. I need video doorbell which works as a camera
        2. I need good Home Assistant integration
        3. I need an NVR with reasonable relatively modern UI

Is it too much to ask?

As per below major issues with reolink
Frame rate.(Or shutter speed?) Not going to get a clear view of anyone walking at a decent rate.
Google integration, won't work when plugged directly into the nvr. (You'll need a poe switch if you have a poe NVR)

Doorbell doesn't ring like a phone to answer, and takes forever to get into to answer. (Can also be delayed presses.)

          Ui mostly fine .
Make sure the cameras you get support Google integration. Pretty much all the new ones do now though.

Very plug and play friendly. Very easy to set up and configure using them stock.

          Door bell is pretty good

Make sure you're cameras have person and pet detection. Forget about motion detection for the ones that don't.

I'm generally happy with mine. Frame rate killed me when I went to use it in anger the last couple of months though. And no Google integration when plugged in directly to the nvr was just stupid (mine now have their own poe switch up linked to the main switch)

            @wisc: Thanks for detailed answer.

Is frame rate (shutter speed) an issue of this model or any Reolink in general?

            • +1

@SickDmith: When they are stored no problem, however 25 is starting to get a little low for moving targets. On a freezer frame…. Should be ok in normal light, but id research more. I don't have this model.

  • Hikvision apparently has good cameras, but apparently also has ties to CCP. No judgement from me either way, but I went reolink for that reason. Great onvif and FTP upload functions in reolink.

    • +5

I don't mind CCP, they can have my info, they can't do worse with it what google, nsa, Facebook does with my data

      • -1

And our own government itself. They are snooping more than what CCP is doing.

    • So besides china taking info which they probably already have hikvision is the way to go?

    • +1

I'd imaging Reolink is CCP tied too by law. All Chinese companies must give them access if requested.

As for the camera's I have 4 (not this model) outdoors and they all preform great and very budget friendly.

  • Anyone have experience running the ONVIF capable Reolink cameras with Unifi Protect? Good experience? Work well? Or completely bastardised experience compared to the Unifi cameras?

    • +1

Yes experience here. Unifi protect will not record motion only from third party onvif cameras, which I find unacceptable. You can only record 24/7 or not at all. Technically unify could choose to use the onvif motion standards, but they have chosen not to.

      • +1

Thanks @Wizballs, 24/7 record a show stopper, just means chewing through storage for no good reason. I need it to only record when there's motion. Maybe if Unifi choose to use ONVIF motion standards, I'll consider it but that would mean people gravitating to ONVIF capable cameras and not their overpriced stuff.

works decently, i have a few 811's and they works decently. only issue are the dual lens units arent well supported

  • +1

    just be aware for reolink:
    25 frames per second
if someone is taking a brisk walk past the cameras your not going to get a clean shot of them. if a car is driving past at night, you'll hardly know what colour it is.

this is one of the massive failures of reolink i rekon (having 6 around the place for a few years, and having gone though a number of upgrades - i am talking from experience)

that said, the ability to zoom into details and see things is pretty spectacular in decent enough lighting. but yeah, frame rate needs to be higher.

  • What’s the sensor size on this?

  • +2

I don't think it is frame rate that directly affects individual frame clarity, but instead related to shutter speed. Faster shutter speed = clearer picture but less light into each frame. Slow shutter speed = blurrier picture but more light. Or somewhere in the sliding scale between the two…

    • Fair call

  • Does it come up as Buy Now only for anyone else? Instead of the Add to Cart?

Wanting to bundle a Reolink camera (not this one but I see the same issue on it) with other items to user a larger coupon…

    • Thinking the same but it appears the add to cart link is missing for all the items marks as clearance so can't make it for larger coupons.

      • +1

I managed to get around this by favouriting it to my wishlist - then using the add to cart button there! Came up in my cart then so could use the bigger coupons

  • I am trying to get the Trackmix Wifi and GST was added in the cart
How do I get rid of that ?

    Summary
    Subtotal AU$207.09
    Saved -AU$23.00
    Shipping fee Free
    Tax AU$22.29
    Total AU$206.38

    • Looks like this one is not from their AU warehouse. Even though it shows shipping from Australia you can see the little description below the item title in cart shows it's from China.
