Not according Camelx3 and it's cheaper than TGGC.

Let us know where we can buy this cheaper please.

Personally prefer to keep my multi-outlet extensions and USB charging ports separate - i.e. two different devices. Putting them together as one adds unecessary complexity and risk, and even companies like Xiaomi, which nowadays produces fairly high quality power banks and USB chargers, still struggle to produce safe power strips with built-in USB ports.

    • Not that I plan to use the USB ports, but what makes these surge protectors unsafe?

      • -4

For one thing, if you don't plan on using those USB ports, they become nothing more than a waste of space. It's quite a bit extra stuff to pay for that you don't actually use.

They can also collect dust and other debris, which may or may not turn into an issue when you suddenly need an extra USB port to plug into and it was the only thing available in the immediate vicinity.

It also requires extra electronic components and extra circuitry to work, which also means there are more things inside your power strip that can potentially fail and turn into a hazard.

And of course, it creates more avenues where the manufacturer can choose to cut corners to cut costs and save a few measley cents per unit, which is unfortunately a phenomenon that is becoming far too common in the modern industry.

They can also collect dust and other debris, which may or may not turn into an issue when you suddenly need an extra USB port to plug into and it was the only thing available in the immediate vicinity.

I bet this specific issue has never been a problem for anyone in the history of the universe.

        • And so we come to the inevitable question: What do you recommend getting instead? Don't say Thor (overpriced).

  • +1

I just want a power strip that holds well, and doesn’t make arcing sound a whenever something isn’t in perfectly.

  • +1

I've been very happy with the previous model for around 8 years…I don't use the USB ports for charging devices but permanently powering devices that support it, like my network switch and bluetooth audio transmitter. Has survived many surges/outages and had no issues.

    • +1

What network switch are you using that's powered by USB?

  • +2

Wish they’d use some of that space around the switch to instead space out the ports a bit more, at least a few of them, to better fit larger AC adapters.

  • It’s too fat/wide with the 4x2 banks of outlets.
I’d rather have a long and thin one eg 8x1 bank of outlets.

    • +2

      Girth is important too.

    • Do any really long versions exist? Like 8 or 12 points just straight line?

      • I think 8 or maybe 10 is the max single row exist

  • I need a 3-4 AC outlet version of this with a right angle plug and good reviews. Am I dreaming?

  • Anyone recommend a flat version? With the USB C ports?

  • -8

Expensive, avoid. Just because this item is lowest listed here, does not make this a good purchase IMO.

    • +3

      What would you suggest instead?

      • +1

        Heymix perhaps. 🤣

People be complaining it's still too much yet it's sold out already lol

  • people didn't wait until this morning to price-beat at officeworks?
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/belkin-con…

    • to save $2.75 without free delivery (prime)… no.

  • +4

    Surge protectors really necessary? Modern
Meter boxes should have this protection already

    • -1

      Sshhh they don’t know that

    • +2

Most people still live in older places that don't have whole-home surge protection. RCD is not the same as surge protection, BTW (people are often confused about what RCD actually is — it doesn't protect against surges).

    • -1

Tell us you don't know anything about electricity…

  • +2

For those put off by the size of the previous model (the one with USB-A ports), it's worth nothing that this new one is considerably smaller, though no means small.

  • +9

For what it's worth… I just returned mine.

Noticed an electronic kind of buzzing noise some of the time coming from it.. Was planning on returning it based on that but eventually it just stopped working reliably (would switch off/on when it chose).

I ended up getting the older Belkin one (with the slow USB ports, and my second one) and it's totally fine by comparison.

It felt really cheap to me anyway but with the failure, I won't be touching this series again

    • +1

Yeah also I still don't get why you cannot get individual switch for each plug

    • how much did you have plugged into it and how much draw was being used at the time? i have mine arriving today and was hoping to test if this happens too.

      • Sorry for the delay. Very little plugged in. It would happen regardless of what was plugged in to the 240v sockets but did have a usb-c plugged into the C-port and a phone on charge.

Other times had a heater plugged in to the 240v (running on low, and with a max draw below that of the board).

        Hope yours is ok!

        • Thanks for getting back to me. I got 2 and so far I don't have any buzzing but my hearing is bad so possible I can't hear it.

I'll have to test using the usb c sometime

          • @kalithreaver: No problem. I am sensitive to the sound usually but this was quite excessive so I think you'd hear it if you put your ear close to it.

My big concern was fire safety, but I'm convinced mine was faulty.

Just keep an eye out and test it in whatever combinations you can think of.

  • Or string up 11 Arlec 4-Outlet boards….

  • Just wondering is the CEW only for 2 years?
