$21.67/kg. Not crazy cheap but a decent price for pre prepared to take out of the freezer as a convenience. Australian fish processed in Vietnam. I’m seeing more of these types of products that are caught in Australia then processed off shore. It would definitely be nice to see seafood being processed and packed in Australia. I’d still probably buy this as a convenient healthy meal option if I didn’t already have whiting in the freezer.

India/China/Vietnam is so much of the food supply now.

I dont get how it is too expensive to make stuff here when in the past when housing was affordable food was made here and also affordable. Free trade just allowed companies to keep/raise profits and offshore everything. And this is a global phenomenon not unique to Australia. Entire industries of goods are only made in one or a handful of countries now.

I know right? However, cost of manufacturing or processing anything in Australia is perhaps one of the most expensive in the world! It’s not sustainable with even govt assistance as corporations are always expecting more.
It’s scary to think of the future when 1 in 5 new jobs created in the past year was government jobs!
Just read BHP’s threat of closing some low profit mines in Qld due to slumping profits and the increasing the coal royalty concerns!
I often say this: look into the room where ever you are either its work or home. You would be surprised! Apart from the gyprock there won’t be hardly anything which is made in Australia not even the rubbish bin!!! Anyway my toilet break is finished and my rant is also over lol 😂
We need to start everything again

      • Not disagreeing with those downsides but the purchasing power (not standard of living) has increased a lot more. 1-2 generations ago, purchasing an appliance was an investment of sorts that you expected to last because they cost so much more. Now they're cheap fast and disposable. Everything got temu'd.

      • It’s not too expensive to do it here. It’s that the margins are more attractive to do it overseas with cheap labour, particularly for low volume products.

A lot of food is produced and packaged in Australia

        • Nonsense, it is expensive to do it here. You have to remember in a global market if you dont others will, and you die. Its very very difficult to navigate that. To say otherwise is ridiculous. Compared to when i grew up a few decades ago its massively different. Regulations and red tape are huge, energy (electricity, fuel, gas) are vastly higher largely due to inaction and zero common sense, insurance profiteering, relative wages for non skilled and trade skilled work are much much higher, absurd housing costs due to recklessly high immigration to fend off recession headlines, and on the other side competition and demand is volatile. The simple fact is someone else will do it cheaper offshore and crush you if its attractive enough.

I dont see anything improving either as there are no signs the bulk of our society has any courage or appetite to face reality and hold governments accountable for achieving better outcomes.

          • @Xizor: Dunno who negged you. Here's an upvote.

          • @Xizor: Soft drinks, beer, chips and other snacks, salmon and many more items are made in Australia. This product could be too but it’s a small player that just wants to offshore it for better margins

These are really tasty. The asians must add msg during their processing.

  • What's the bet they are out of stock when I go shopping.

  • I've always wondered why it seems to be much harder to get cheaper seafood in Melbourne as compared to Sydney or Perth, or am I just wrong and seafood is generally much more expensive everywhere?

    • Expensive everywhere.
