bought this for my new system, running great, can recommend

actually looking at it I bought the newer model and not this particular one….still would recommend the brand overall

    • -3

      does this come with power?

      • +3

no, unfortunately you must still have power to provide from your cardboard box

  • +10

I have had this for almost 5 years. The only problem I have with it is you need to source your own 12 V HPWR cable for those 600W pcie 5.0 GPUs these days. Find a PSU that has it included and the GPU power bridge if you need to connect it 90 degrees. It's just a pain in the ass not to have it included.

$30 for the cable and $40 for the power bridge separately is just retarded when a new PSU is just over $100.

    • +3

That's correct, 2021 design - 12V HPWR came in 2022. Still a A+ tier PSU. Personally looking at 600W GPUs, I'd bump PSU up to 1000W capacity.

  • Lovely card that powers my 5070ti 9800x3d AW2725Q

    • +6

AW2725Q? How do you power your monitor from this PSU?

      • 12VHPR cable

        • Can’t find anything regarding that.

For a few dollars more, I reckon this is a better option. 2024 model, ATX 3.1

    • That's 750w though

        • Some people do have 9800x3D RTX 5090 systems.

Edit - Yes, there are still Gold 500w PSU around. Although, I prefer Seasonic Focus series.

        • +4

Ok cool thanks for sharing. Just because you don't need 750/850w doesn't mean others don't.

          • @Evanlet: Thats not the reason I shared.
Its the cheapest RMx 2024 Series RX750x 750W at the moment …
            Cheers

            • +1

@51ngh: I mean you said your deal is better when it's lower wattage, then continue to say that your system don't need that much wattage anyways. While the general consumer won't give a damn to ATX3.1 or 2024 model, the first thing they see will be 850 > 750. For the consumer knowing what they need, they won't get 750W psu as well when they are in the market for 850W psu.

  • I recently had the Corsair RM850 crap out on me….. did this model fix the PSU cooking itself issue?

    • +2

      RM850 and RM850x are different.

The RM850 uses capacitors from Elite and Sunconn. RM850x uses capacitors from Japan, the Nichicon and Chemicon. The ones which use Nichicon and Chemicon caps are good, I used my HX850W (also uses Nichicon and Chemicon) from 2009 to power my 5900X & RTX 3080 system when my new Seasonic PSU failed due to the voltage spikes from the 3080. HX850W performed fine, took everything that I was doing that the Seasonic could not handle. Only reason I replaced it originally was because I used it for 11 years straight in a 24/7 application.

My 1200x failed and so did my corsair 850x. One was my kids system. 850x was a few years old no receipt. Dead.

1200x ended up getting replaced. Initial difficulties with corsair but went through amazon and got it sorted.

        • What were you powering with your Corsair 850x? 20 peripherals?
Out of curiosity, did you constantly flick the power switch off after use?

          • @Hydralyte: Hey mate, never flicked off the power switch on the unit itself. Just the OS. Was only running a 1080ti. It started where i thought the 1080ti was starting to shit itself then after about a month of slop choppy frame rates and sluggish OS speeds (ssd) it just wouldnt start. Just a mouse, keyboard, monitor, usb key and a wifi card. Very surprising.. my previous oje last over 10 years and never failed i jjst upgraded..

My 1200x, was powering a 4090… didnt last 12 months, just used it normally, maybe 10-12 hours a week tops.. some weeks where im busy it might 5hours use? Surprising for sure as its supposed to be the model with japanese capacitors.

My kids one failed at our unit, the new one failed at our house we moves into.

Both kind of Surprising given my old one lasted years and it cost less than 100. The 1200x was $349 and didnt see a falendar year out.

10 year warranty on a $162 item….I have to say, if they honour that, that's impressive

    • +5

I had them honour it, an 8 year old PSU, RM850x, though you need a copy of the receipt and the original box it came in. Lucky for me for some stupid reason I still had the box.

      • +3

yeah nice…I've grown into the habit of keeping boxes for stuff like this until i either move onto my next PC, or i know warranty is over.

Helps for warranty purposes, if i want to resell, and also use it to store any of the bits and bobs that come with it in that box.

Can confidently say that if they honoured warranty on your 8 year old PSU then it's a pretty good deal.

  • Got 2025 edition of RM850e (white version) for $167 on prime day, surprised this price is still as high as it is with no ATX 3.1

    • +2

RMe are not rated as highly as the RMx series, hence the difference in price. Doubt youd notice any difference though

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1akCHL7Vhzk_EhrpIGkz8…

      • Yeah, Taiwanese vs Japanese capacitors I think. I was fine with saving the $20 or so, no complaints, power supply is virtually silent

    • I got RM850x (B0D47GB4PT) on Prime Day for 168 by using the promotional $10 NAB thing.

      • +1

got mine for $145 (effectively) from the new business account deal.

  • @Fergy1987 There you go, a PSU

  • Got this puppy for 179$ a while back for my 7600/4070TiS build initially and currently runs a 5090 (roommate had a spare one, dont ask me why or how) with this CORSAIR 12+4pin PCIe Gen 5 Type-4 600W 12VHPWR Cable. Set on the minimum TDP allowed in the inno3d driver (69% (nice)) and it havent burnt out on me yet and runs fine-ish.

Havent yet budgeted for a cpu or a psu upgrade anytime soon so hope this bad boy can hold on for a bit.

  • I have a 5700x3d and looking to get either a 5070ti or a 9070 XT. Would this be enough? I'm currently on 650W which I don't think will cut it.

    • +2

That system should use <500W so it should be fine as long as it's a good PSU

  • Thanks had my coolermaster for over 10 years still going fine apart from some occasional weird fan noises. Nice to swap it out before it gives up, and finally convert to modular and close my case up haha

    • +1

I still have my Zalman 1000w PSU from 2006/07 that ran my 8800GTS in SLI haha. Ran my system up until about 4 years ago, well technically its still running the backup system for the wife.

  • +1

I thought this was a mini PC for a while.
Is amazing that there is an overlap in both size and price for these two things
