Paying Rates with Zip Pay - Credit Check?

Hi all, I want to pay my rates using a credit card that doesn’t count government payments in the eligible spend for bonus points.

I’ve read about using Zip for this - my question is, will setting up a Zip account trigger an entry / check on my file? I don’t want any checks on it right now as I’m applying for investment finance.

The amount is about $1800, if anyone knows of an alternative method I’d appreciate the info

Yep, will hit your credit file, and the lenders look badly on payday loans

No amount of points will justify any extra fees etc that would be incurred in the $1800 payment. Just pay it

    • Thanks for the feedback, just a convenient bill that would help a lot with the minimum spend for bonus points.

But if he pays it off straight away then wouldn't a credit report reveal he owes Zip nothing?

The hit to the credit file is enough of a red flag

It's like going to Cash Converters for a loan and then paying it back. The damage is done

1 - the fees are $2.50 per $1k payment so depending so $5 for the OP

2 - if your credit score is healthy enough and you’re not imminently trying to get a mortgage the hit is retry inconsequential

Which is why I felt the need to highlight it on OP's post -

I went back and checked the cards t&cs, turns out government payments aren’t excluded from the bonus points spend, only from accruing regular points. So just paid it with the CC. Luckily was allowed in this case but we will see.

How shit would your credit file have to be for lenders to look badly on it.

Anyone ever ask that question when mentioning credit file as if it means anything.

My cousin goes hard on Ozb and does all the Zip, afterpay, credit card etc etc and yet still got $600k home loan as a single person no issues.

Afterpay doesn't hit your credit file (strangely enough)

If you're the type of person who needs payday loans, they're likely the least of your worries

  • It's not worth the trouble then.
